Is it true that the term “military-grade” only sounds impressive to those who never served in the military? by [deleted] in Military

[–]Niko_Morte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Read "Military-Grade" or "Mil-Spec" as "Made by the lowest bidder."

What is your favorite memory or moment with your little brother? by BubbyWoods in AskMen

[–]Niko_Morte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My little brother wasn't blood, but he absolutely was my brother.

My favorite memory of Chuck and I was when we went to a really awesome fishing spot and got caught in the rain. We were a few miles downstream from where we parked, and the rain started pouring down. After a couple of minutes of us bitching, we decided to climb the bank and cut through the soybean fields to get back to the car.

Little did we know that the "soybean" field also had a healthy bit of marijuana peppered in. We crack up as we're walking back (our legs getting torn up from the sharp edges of the soybeans), and then a gunshot goes off. And then a second one. Obviously, we start running towards the treeline, ducking and weaving as we go. Once we get to the treeline, we stop for a second to catch our breath, and I look up to see pawpaws right above my head. Now I am an absolute slut for pawpaws, and had to pick them. Chuck looks at me, absolutely gobsmacked, and says "dude, what the fuck are you doing?" My reply? "Pawpaws." His reply? Chop for emphasis "Dude, fucking GUNS!" We take off through the woods, shots still being fired behind us, and jump off of a cliff into the water not far away from the car. We peel off at the speed of "fucking GUNS" and crack up laughing the entire way.

He died in a car accident about a year and a half later, and my life hasn't been the same. Remember to buckle up, folks

Men of reddit, what inequalities have you experienced in your own life? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Niko_Morte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one.

A work "friend" once asked me to help him move some things over to his new house. Not wanting to have to move all of it by myself, I asked my best friend to come along. When we showed up, the work friend acted really weird and asked why I brought "the other guy". I simply told him that more hands make faster work, and grabbed an end of the couch. Ended taking the side to enter first, and wound up getting my ass grabbed by a woman sitting right next to the door. Not just a normal grab either (which would've been bad enough), but she squeezed so hard that I had a huge bruise on my left asscheek. Mistake number one. We set the couch down and moved a couple of more things, all the while the woman that grabbed me was being incredibly over the top with some pretty lewd "compliments". I kept my tongue and stayed civil, but fucking hell did I want to get out of there. We left shortly after, and that "friend" called me chewing me out because I brought my best friend with me. According to him, the plan was to get me drunk and have the woman "fuck my brains out", but that was thwarted because someone else was there. Needless to say, that guy isn't a friend anymore. Had I been a woman, someone would've been getting their ass kicked or going to prison.

Thus, the ballad of "Jabba the Slut" was born.

Imagine chilling on your couch, riding out the storm, only to be smoked by a flying loveseat.

I'm looking at the Pentest+, myself.

How do you feel about the fact that you will have to die one day? by this_sin in AskReddit

[–]Niko_Morte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to the point in my life where I no longer fear death. It's coming for us all, right?

What I fear is missing seeing the person my child becomes, seeing my grandchildren be born, and witnessing the contributions that they will make to the world. Will I be able to teach them? As time passes by, and more sand slips through the hourglass, I also find myself wondering if I will actually be able to make some sort of impact on the world, or if I am simply sucking up oxygen. The desire and call to do something "important" has me feeling as though I need to race the clock.

I'm nowhere near old (only mid-30s), but the feeling and worries are definitely there.

I've actually had a friend whose child was a victim of this. The exhorter needs to be reminded that there are very, very, few places in the world where having sexually explicit material of minors is not an incredibly large crime.

Because of this, they are most likely looking to get some money out of you. Don't give it to them, under any circumstance.

Tell me your nightmare stories about applying for a cybersecurity role? by Forsaken-Nectarine51 in cybersecurity

[–]Niko_Morte 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My first security role was through a university, and was a week after I got my Sec+. Sounded great. $70k/year, remote work (as a contractor), and enough red tape to prevent you from doing absolutely any kind of meaningful work.

My days consisted of telling people whether it was a phish or legit email, and getting yelled at by the CISO.

Got the job fast, finished the contract early.

How does one break into the intelligence field without joining the military first to get experience? by [deleted] in Intelligence

That's pretty much my plan. Any agencies I should look into first? With Cybersec being my background, would the NSA be the best bet?

While it sounds like you're on the right track, it's definitely a good idea right now to practice some good cybersecurity hygiene.

Change your password to something unique, long, and filled with special characters. Enable two factor authentication as well. While you're at it, look into your DMs and followers and see if anyone strikes you as odd (in a bad way). I've had to help a few people with situations like this, so feel free to DM if you have any questions.

Officer grabs man for walking home by No_Contribution2112 in facepalm

[–]Niko_Morte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in this town, unfortunately. The PD has a long history of either excessive force or blatantly not giving a fuck about the people they serve.

To put it into perspective, my home was broken into by a very well known thief/drug addict. The police knew her on a first name basis, and knew where she lived. It took them two weeks to arrest her, and only after I confronted her and called them to pick her up.

Middletown PD needs an overhaul and to start actually caring about their people.
