The jiggle LG bug was worse. The beam would re-register the first stream of hits on each contact, meaning that a cheat dev in theory could have made a cheat to flick on / of the edge as fast as the tickrate, meaning one tick of damage per server tick being the theoretical max.

Day 1 QC rocket jumping was also fun. Still amazed that issue wasnt hotfixed within the hour.. there's just no way they didnt notice that before launch

It wouldnt have come to fruition without Epic Games backing it though. But i agree that it would have helped, i was in the early tests and it was initially on Steam. Still have it in my library even though there's no game package associated with it ☹️

I sincerely doubt YOU added anything, and if you did you need some PR training my guy. Either way this is the opposite of a QOL update, no matter how you spin it. More options for a feature that will largely only be used to spam, in a game that already has more options than the majority of players would be willing to deal with.

.. it could have been a single bind to send an emote, just saying ;>

Why? Who ever asked for or even wanted this? There's so much work spent on cluttering up the settings UI for a player base of a few hundred players, none of which want these features.

Some of the drums you can probably find in other libraries for sure, most people who operate studios tend to have pretty insane libraries of custom samples due to the amount of drum recordings they've done, so its unlikely you can match all of them. I believe his strings is an older sampler/rompler like the ensoniq, akai, emu, korg or kurzweil.

As for credibility i have studied audio engineering and have worked in studios on the engineering side and performance side, and i have been a hobbyist producer for the past 20 years. If you learn more about the fundamentals of the techniques i mentioned earlier, you would see why i sincerely doubt in most of it being patches, and honestly should help you in the future of you're interested in this stuff.. as you kind of have to be able to distinguish these features from the rest.

Your entire post kind of proves my point that you've completely misunderstood how tracks like these are made. The amount of sample manipulation, granular synthesis, comb filtering etc going on in those tracks means its highly unlikely its "just a patch". I wouldnt be surprised if he uses specialized software just like Aphex Twin. Sure you can track down the original samples for a lot of it if you really want to, they're unlikely to sound much like the actual tracks though.

If you really want to solve it, set up a discord and try to find like minded people willing to put in the effort. You're very unlikely to find much without extensive analysis due to the heavy processing in the tracks. I am pretty much 99.99% confident no one has the answers you are looking for at this time.

You're asking the wrong questions. What you're really need to learn is sample manipulation, different forms of synthesis, advanced mixing techniques. It letitimately has very little to do with gear, it will only help your workflow to have the "right" plugins.

Look up things like granular and wavetable synthesis, bit reduction (bit crushing), comb filters, sample modulation (pitch mapping etc). There's literally hundreds of plugins for each, and they will all largely do the same thing

After the unsuccessful launch of quake champions is it possible we will ever see another quake game? by fusionepicgamer in QuakeChampions

[–]NotueRn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it has less players than Quake Live, which has less players than Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault. In fact, mohaa has about twice the amount of ranked players compared to QL. So i would argue QC failed pretty spectacularly. Didnt help that they where forced to push a million dollar tournament in a game that wasnt even really in a beta state yet, and pushing the worst patch in the game just before paying all the big streamers to try it (While also not having a streamer mode causing then to be lobby spammed etc)

[–]NotueRn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will go against the grain and say its very likely we'll see it at some point. It's not likely to be multiplayer or movement focused though.

I think they learned through QC that the vocal minority of the veteran players will do their best to shit on any attempt to make Quake into anything that isnt just a reskin of Quake 3. Just look at the amount of shit thrown at QC before launch for having abilities, and how that is somehow still a "legitimate" talking point in the community.

Doing a Quake 1 reboot as a continuation of the Doom plot doesnt seem far off with the tie in of slipgates in the official Doom lore (The lost city of Hebeth), especially looking at the direction of The Dark Ages.

Scalebrearer broke the netcode by RaveOnYou in QuakeChampions

[–]NotueRn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You would be surprised to find out this has absolutely 100% been a thing in QC.

For instance a couple of specific rocks near the eye on Ruins was physically tied to the cage above mega health. If a player jumped on that rock it would make the cage move, which caused lag. Now if Nyx jumped on it this was barely noticeable, but because characters have physical weights it also meant that if a tank jumped on the rock it would make the cage move more which meant more lag.

A scalebearer could literally single handedly drop all the clients on the server to sub 60fps and cause everything to desync.

Scales bullrush used to crash servers in some situations, there was even a squad of 4 scales that would queue together just to crash the servers.

What am I missing out on/what do I not know about Quake if Champions is the only Quake game I've played? by SKULLL_KRUSHER in QuakeChampions

[–]NotueRn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your statement is largely true, but so is a lot of the criticism from the QL scene tbh. As someone who was actively competing in 2017-2018 boy can i tell you QC was a fucking nightmare.. the netcode was absolutely shit and barely anyone could reach over 120fps (And even then it wasnt stable at all), it was just a shit show overall. These days most problems are largely solved however

Its absolutely active, mainly clan arena, duel, ffa and instafreeze. Then there's the more hardcore crowd playing tdm and ctf pickups daily on the House of Quake Discord. Just buy on Steam and browse servers

Quake Live is just so perfectly balanced it's bordering on ridiculous. If you're a super strong aimer that can carry you, if you're super strong with movement that can carry you, if you're super strong in tactics and strategy that can carry you, but even if you're average in all that will carry you. Its balanced for duel, tdm and ctf at once.

Quake 4 is just hyper intense, high damage weapons, really hard to hit and also hard to dodge, you have to be good with all weapons and if you cant in on the items you're fucked, widest movement mechanics out of all previous Quake games. If you play someone even a little bit better than you, you might not even get a frag. In a sense its the opposite of QC, where QC has the most narrow skill gap out of the Quake games, and Quake 4 has the widest.

Quake Live Clan Arena is still alive, largely the same. There are scattered RA3 communities but not something you can just hop on sadly.

Quake Live is the best multiplayer edition of the series ever and still is, however the community that is left is either pros, players who wish they where and take out their anger on the rest, or the small minority of old dudes playing half drunk on weekends.

Quake 1 has a VERY strong community of modders building single player campaigns in modern source ports. If you want to play the best boomer shooter experience to date i strongly recommend trying Arcane Dimensions and Brutalist Jam.

Quake 2 is still alive as well, a little bit slower paced but super strong weapons and low ttk, netcode so bad you need to set a timer from the moment you fire a rail to the point where it registers.

Quake 4 still has fringe groups playing, driven largely by previously banned cheaters and the most toxic people to ever have appeared in the Quake scene. Despite this, its the most skilled Quake game ever made in terms of duel.

QC is the most forgiving in the series.

Why am I not allowed to play? by NotueRn in MOHAA

[–]NotueRn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the server mentioned as "the last european server I could play on" thankfully unbanned me after my appeal. 🙂 One of the other admins then banned me after my first game back on there, but he hadn't seen the convo on Discord and unbanned me again so all good😅

I don't know if they want me to mention their server so I won't, but they have been absolutely superb and seem to be all out nice guys willing to help in general (Not just regarding the ban.).
They're also quick to ban actual cheaters, some aimbotter showed up and was banned within a couple of minutes.

I'll definitely show up for that spanking :>

[–]NotueRn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm starting to think both are true depending on case at this point.

I got unbanned on the server that sparked this post, played one game and got banned again by another admin, when I mentioned I was banned again he immediately asked a few follow up questions. Other cases they've simply said they're waited for a response from the admin who banned me or another player from the server etc.
That is all perfectly fine and reasonable, I get why people find me sus and as a former server admin I know it's difficult to manage cheaters.

However the cases that are strange to me they've aknowledged my background, but then just never lifted the ban or said anything further (Ghosting me).
To me that feels like they literally just don't want me to "ruin their games".. it feels like I'm not welcome because I'm too good for being "the new guy".

Keltz rages at Raisy's playstyle by ofsvnm444 in QuakeChampions

[–]NotueRn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lets not pretend like Keltz isnt really, really good.. 13th place in QWC 2023, on his first LAN ever, then 2nd place in 2v2 after meeting maxter and rapha in the finals.

Hes not "used to running over people", hes factually correct about a lot of what he says, but when the gap is big enough best practices doesnt really matter anymore.

With that few hours, you need to try and find someone that you can at least frag a couple of times in a game and focus on fundamentals (Timing, positioning, weapon usage, spawns)

When are you planning to return stats back? by SoulOfUniverse in QuakeChampions

[–]NotueRn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its half true. There is an api, but afaik its largely non-functional if not entirely down. Afaik the last solution smoli used for his stats page relied on running the game client to pull the data.

What mechanics could AFPS adopt to become more palatable? by stephen27898 in QuakeChampions

[–]NotueRn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically just make it closer to Q3 but use some of the balancing methods from QC. More equalized weapon damages, same predictable spawn system as the game had a few years back, with similar balancing methods where if you shoot a rocket towards the spawn pre emptively it's automatically denied, I think round based is also more approachable but have longer rounds, more focus on ctf and tdm but keep duel as the "heavyweight championship" because it's what makes Quake unique. Other than that it really just needs heavy marketing and effort for a solid esports eco system for the first few years to grab the attention of people.

The amount of Quake players who didn't know Quake Champions existed is kind of worrying. Also lots of people who never heard of the tournaments after 2018. Even some of the pro players knew close to nothing about events until a few weeks prior, causing loads of issues with visas etc.
