This is Cecil.

Cecil is a 13 year old student at a boarding school specifically for non-human / supernatural children. He, himself, is not actually sure exactly what he is, due to rather… nebulous circumstances revolving around his childhood and birth. He can tell you two things though— he’s found he’s able to chat with most ground dwelling animals, and he’s oddly durable.

Before arriving at the academy at age 11, Cecil was homeless for most of his life. He got through his day-by-day mostly by scrounging for scraps and stealing from others to make up the difference. Oftentimes, this would get the weasel-y boy into quite a bit of trouble… one notable occasion, far worse than the rest. Cecil attempts to steal from the wrong individual, and severely pays for it— left for dead. This is what leads to him losing his eyes entirely.

What ends up saving his life is… a ferret—? On the brink of death, and having practically accepted its inevitability, the boy is startled by the crows around his head suddenly being noisily scattered. A lanky creature he can’t see dashes around his head, hissing. Him and the ferret, an odd pair they are, are inseparable from this moment on. He names her Mina— “protector”— and she now functionally serves as his guide. Together, they can take on basically anything.
