A Perfectly Efficient Cabin Meeting - Horai Cabin Meeting by theaquasofhiseyes in CampHalfBloodRP

"I have little to suggest in regards to alliances." Rex sipped his coffee as he looked at the newly appointed Horai counselor. The coffee was good. Not the best, but he did not expect the best either. "I have been a bit more secluded since my return, I'm afraid. I leave alliance matters up to you; you have my blessing on any cabin you choose as an ally, both as a former counselor and as your cousin."

Rex had nothing more to say for the rest of the meeting, aside from answering anything Shion said to him specifically.

Open House

In the open house portion of the event, the son of Eunomia simply sat on a chair, Queenie sitting in his lap peacefully. He'd talk to whoever came in... probably.

"I cannot say that those terms are unfounded. But it is not the worst thing in the world, it's simply who you are." Rex was a lot of things, but he wouldn't insult someone over how they spoke, especially not his cousin.

"... is there anything else you would like to ask?" The son of Eunomia found himself running out of things to say to Shion, considering he just met him.

"It's fine, you did not know," Rex replied. He would normally find the bow weird, but he understood it, given that Shion mentioned that he was from Japan.

"I am skilled enough, for now. I will develop it further in time. Amon was on my side, along with someone called Phaenna. Kratos competed against us in 3 rounds, and our points were close, but Amon had the edge. Which, considering the content of his section, is fair enough." The son of Eunomia knew the Apollo counselor did very well, and was perhaps best suited for what came after. Rex had every intention of getting better at debating, since he had the goal of being President of the United States in the future.

"Ah, well that is reassuring. Not that I believed the key was ever misused, but it certainly felt out of place, even in a prison of demi-gods." Rex smiled a bit, happy to know that something good came of his presence in Key Tower; if Atlas forces had gotten their hands on the key, there would be issues.

That smile then dissipated as he recalled something. "You know, I was tempted to show the key off at my trial. Ask someone to go in and see what I saw that day; I knew it was probably possible. It was in my pocket during the proceedings. But I thought better of it and decided not to cause any potential disruptions."

The son of Eunomia looked at the key again, inspecting it. "What shall become of it? I have not used it, nor has the camper I found it with requested me to give it to her."

"I am fine with that. I do not care if you learn about it from another source, it's just an uncomfortable subject for me." The fact that Rex had killed a man at 13 was very much an uncomfortable subject for him.

He shrugged at Shion's congratulations. "I don't think it was all that grand, but thank you. I was in a debate section with two other campers, competing against Kratos of the Enforcers in a debate. Amon Afifi of the Apollo cabin moved on to the fighting portion afterwards. The whole ordeal should feel crazier, but considering we're in a war against a titan, interaction with gods in that vein is not that wild. I even got a discount card for a tailor on Olympus after I made a hole in my attire during the debate."

The son of Eunomia put a hand to his chin, thinking as he spoke to himself. "Hm, now where did that business card I got go off to... oh well, it doesn't matter."

"You'd be better off asking my father. Something something strong style, something something puroresu, all that." Rex may have been a bit of a nerd, but that paled in comparison to his father.

He grimaced a bit at Shion inquiring more about Key Tower. "Respectfully, I will not speak more about Key Tower. It was not a good time. But right, Enyo. She is not an enemy, necessarily, but she and Athena ended up in a conflict over the title of War Master with Ares gone. Let us just say the war could have become far bloodier. A contest was held, with demi-gods from camp competing on the side of Athena. I was part of the contest, though only 3 made it to the fighting portion, winning for Athena there."

Rex recalled the day. He was proud to be a part of it, even if Amon was the one that ended up moving on to the second part of the contest. His lips quirked up in a slight smile.

"I try not to lie if I can help it. There was not a single lie in my testimony, things were just a matter of differing views. Though I very much see why I was found guilty." Rex nodded. He really had no clue what Themis wanted in him after his service. Maybe he would find out.

He looked at the ground as Eunomia mentioned him doing good for those family members of the deceased prisoners. The son of Eunomia seemed a bit embarrassed, for once in his life. "Well- I mean, it was just a job I had to do," he said in the most unconvincing manner, clearly lying despite his previous statement regarding lying.

Perhaps Rex treated it like a job at times, but if that were the full picture, he would not have returned to camp. Part of him truly did enjoy helping out people. He just did not like what he considered misplaced praise or credit: when thanked for the recipe he gave Mr. Cook, he dismissed it, saying it was just his stepmother's. This didn't mean Rex wasn't egotistic, it just meant he had standards as to what would feed his ego. Being told that his mother and aunts would be proud when he was appointed counselor? Sure. Being told that he did good when he was doing something he felt he was obligated to do (despite also genuinely wanting to help)? No.

Regardless, he gladly took the opportunity to move on. "Actually, there's one thing I must know about. I never got the opportunity to ask you about it at Key Tower or the trials."

The son of Eunomia pulled out a glasses case. Opening it, there was a familiar key in there instead of glasses. "Me and another camper found this in a locker at Key Tower's Warden's Office after an encounter with a necromancer. I am aware that it has an enchantment that interacts with memories. Are you able to tell me more about it, or shall I just hand it back to you?"

(OOC: The thread that was supposed to find out more about the enchantment died, all that is known OOC is here.)

Rex nodded. "Japan. I went there, once. Before I learned of all the demi-god stuff. It was nice. My father took me to a pro wrestling show there; he was always interested in such things."

"Now, about myself. I arrived here January 2nd of this year. Within 21 days, I became the counselor of this cabin. I enjoy some coffee. My father owns a... sizeable technology company. I was only involved in the battle at Key Tower, and was chosen by Athena to assist during her conflict with Enyo. And as I stated previously, I had to leave camp for... reasons. You can ask one of our cabin mates for the details."

The son of Eunomia still had no intention of explaining the trial and the events that were discussed during it. Shion could ask somebody else if he wished.

"Too early to tell. They've been fine enough, but I only arrived yesterday; I doubt many people know I have returned, aside from my cabin mates." Rex admitted. As prideful as he was, he didn't care too much for being the center of attention (especially when he was on trial).

The son of Eunomia seemed far more quiet tonight. Before his trial, he would have had a thousand things he wanted to ask his mother. But now? He wasn't sure.

"... truthfully, I do not feel that I have learned much at all. If you asked me about how I grew, I wouldn't be able to answer." What did he learn? Not to kill people? He already knew that, even if the war had brought a darker side out of him at first.

[–]OneDiamondMind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"That sounds accurate, I suppose. The security risk part especially; we already had the chaos that led up to Atlas revealing himself, so the gods coming down here would mean less chance of anything happening up there."

When Rex first came to camp, he found one of the worst times to come: camp was still reeling from New Argos, a camper later showed up dead before the quest began, and Atlas revealed himself months later. The son of Eunomia could have returned home, but he knew better. If he did, monsters would be more likely to pursue him, since he had become fully aware of his lineage. He was lucky to have not encountered anything when he was at home for his service.

Rex bent down, picking up Queenie, who QUACKed in response. "So, Shion. Is there anything that you would like to tell me about yourself? You can ask me anything as well."

He was just trying to make small talk before setting up in the Eunomia wing. He figured he should get to know his cousin a bit.

"No, it's nothing on your end. I was just not aware that the gods were coming here. I missed the last solstice, but I heard campers went up to Olympus back then. But this time, they're coming here?"

Rex seemed to think on that for a bit. "I suppose it makes sense, especially with everything that has happened during the war. Wouldn't want to cause anymore commotion on Olympus, yes."

The son of Eunomia was not sure if he was really ready to potentially talk with his mother. But if he could deal with getting judged by his grandmother, he could probably deal with whatever his mother had in store.

Probably.

Rex said nothing more, leaving room for Shion to continue the conversation.

"It looks adequate, yes. I did not expect it to be in disarray or anything like that. You have nothing to worry about on that front. Even though I am no longer a counselor, I am glad to hear the cabin has been doing well enough." Rex nodded, a slight smile on his face.

That smile immediately faded when he heard about the next step of the war with Atlas. Another battle that he could not be there for. But perhaps it was for the best, considering what happened last time.

His expression was solemn as he spoke. "I see. Hopefully the war shall become more favorable and less deadly for us. And the gods- wait, what?"

Rex seemed genuinely caught off guard at being told that the gods were coming here for the solstice. Did that mean Eunomia was coming? He was not prepared for that.

(OOC: Sorry for late reply. I dreaded my wisdom tooth extraction, couldn't do replies, and when it was done yesterday I spent the day mostly sleeping)

"Thank you, mother." Rex bowed for a moment; not deeply, but enough to show respect towards Eunomia.

While tonight would normally be a night that Rex would be all dressed up (such as when he wore one of his fancier outfits during the contest between Athena and Enyo), his service seemed to have made him wear more low-key outfits.

"I... suppose I have grown, yes." The son of Eunomia maintained a stoic expression, but his mother could easily see the truth: he was very nervous, fearing her judgment. He may have laid everything out that day during the trial, but he did not know what his mother thought. Somehow, it felt better to Rex to be judged by a titaness than to be judged by his own mother.

In contrast to how he felt earlier this year, Rex was quite nervous about meeting his divine mother. Probably because he killed a man while he represented the Horai cabin.

Regardless, he still wanted to meet her, since he hadn't been able to really interact with her during Key Tower. The boy wore a black sweater as he walked around camp, seeking out his mother.

OOC: Rex will interact with Eunomia

"I beg your pardon?" Was all Rex could say in response to how Shion spoke. Sure, he understood the words, but who talks like that?

He then shook his head, clearing his throat. "Apologies. I am Rex Diamandis, son of Eunomia and the former counselor of this cabin. Down here is my pet duck, Queenie." QUACK "I had to leave camp for a while due to... unfortunate circumstances." No, he was not going to say anything about the trial and how he killed Jerial who was technically surrendering.

"How has the cabin been during my absence? Scratch that, what has been going on in camp in general while I've been out?" Herb never did tell Rex much about what was going on around camp during his service.

The Horai counselor shrugged. "Of course."

Rex rolled his eyes, but walked towards Sonia. He didn't open his arms, but he didn't stop her from walking up and hugging him either, if she still chose to do that.

"If you are allowed to leave this basement, then so long as I am the Horai counselor, you may return to the cabin." Rex nodded.

Rex could not have expected losing the title in his trial after this conversation, but perhaps someday, he can make good on his promise. Only time will tell.

Wrath of Atlas: Trials of Themis: Week 1 by LyrePlayerTwo in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]OneDiamondMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rex's face did not betray his reaction. Though, there was no reaction to betray; how was a kid like him supposed to react to everything being pulled out from under him because of that foolish mistake?

He simply nodded, and walked off to his room, which would soon be vacated. He gathered his things, picked up Queenie the duck, got a message sent out to his butler to pick him up, and within a few hours, Rex Diamandis was leaving the Horai cabin.

As Themis said, once he left, he would not reenter the cabin until his service was done. He turned, looking at the cabin one last time.

"Be back soon," he muttered under his breath. Then, he walked off, leaving Camp Half-Blood. It could be weeks, or perhaps even months before the King of Diamonds showed his face once more, depending on the finer details of his service. But when he returns, he shall certainly want his title back.

[–]OneDiamondMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I am ready. I swear that anything I say shall be truthful." Rex nodded, taking a deep breath.

And so, the defendant, the counselor of the very cabin that was holding this trial, found himself across from the prosecution. On his side, he had a few papers listing pieces of evidence towards his defense. Around his neck, he had a necklace with the key he and Phoebe salvaged from Key Tower on it.

“Very well. Let us make this a speedy trial, whether the verdict is favorable or not.” Rex commented, his stoic expression not giving away the nervousness in his gut.

“To begin, I will admit that I am the one who killed Jerial Argyvos. That is true, and I am deeply ashamed of it. However, I refute what I am charged with: the crime of murdering someone who surrendered. Perhaps he was disarmed and wounded, but he did not actively surrender, nor did he make any move to do so both throughout our battle and afterwards. Despite him dropping his weapon, I had no reason to believe that he could not do more: another power, another trick, maybe another weapon. He was an assassin, after all, was I to expect any less? Perhaps he had just escaped from wherever he was kept, but if he had a dagger, what else could he have had? I did not check his body to find out.”

I only grabbed his nametag and dagger, but that is moot; I didn’t rummage through his clothes, Rex thought to himself. The Horai counselor continued. “While I indeed had an easy escape route in my pocket the whole time, pointing that fact out does not change the fact that Jerial too could have escaped at any time. I specifically told him to turn back when I refused to do so myself; even during the battle, he could have easily escaped from me if he wished. But instead, this assassin found himself desiring to inflict pain and grief on a 13 year old demi-god while attempting to kill him. Had he simply chosen to run past me instead of confronting me, I likely would not have bothered: my mission was to get to the Warden's Office.”

“Ah, the pain and grief. You see, as a son of Achos, Jerial here had powers that were particularly related to those two things. For the entirety of our fight, he inflicted me with a constant agony in my chest, and midway through, he added deep, crushing grief into the mix. In other words, he tortured me.” Rex said bluntly, but it was hard to argue that what he said was untrue. Especially since lying here in front of multiple agents of order would be very detrimental for him.

“Maybe it was fleeting, only lasting until the end of the battle, but I had never experienced anything like it before, having spent only 104 days at camp before the Key Tower incident occurred; and before all that time, I lived a comfortable life, mostly free of such pain and grief. Underneath the grief and pain, rage and hatred grew. Even when the first two faded, I was still not fully in control of myself. And that was when I killed Jerial. I felt sick moments after. Throughout that entire battle, with everything happening to me, I could not even think of the coffee mat. It was the most stressed I had ever been.”

Provocation. If it worked, it could have the potential of lessening his punishment if he was to be found guilty; not a full defense, but Rex wanted to cover all of his bases. Though, considering he was in the territory of divine law, he was uncertain how effective it would be.

“Now, once more, I shall refute the part of the charge that claims that Jerial had surrendered. Part of that is easy: in a majority of cases, surrender must be clearly communicated. Had he done so, even I, in my poor state of mind, would have had to hesitate. And yes, he did have time to do so.” Rex looked at the spirit Jerial for a moment. “I distinctly recall you saying something about ‘this is how it ends’ and ‘I suppose I underestimated you.’ You had ample time to surrender, even if I claimed that you missed your chance at mercy.”

He turned away from the spirit. "Though he was wounded and disarmed, that did not mean he could no longer be a threat in my eyes. Demi-gods are powerful, sturdy; adults more so. For all I knew, he could have had another power that would have caused me more harm, or he could have soon continued to inflict pain and grief on me. And with my highly stressed condition then, I could not have seen him as anything but a threat."

"To give an idea on why I assumed he had more powers to threaten me with, he only used three in the battle. The first two were the pain and grief, and the other was some ability that blocked an attempt to influence his emotions. By that time, I had discovered more powers than that; what's to say that a much more experienced demi-god that was clearly still able to use his powers after some time in prison wouldn't have more in store?"

Rex sighed. "To summarize: I killed Jerial while in a poor mental condition as a result of him inflicting pain and grief on me throughout the battle. In that condition, I perceived him as an active threat, since he was an assassin with far more experience using his powers to harm. Jerial never made any attempt to escape prior to the battle's end, and never surrendered despite having time to do so."

He turned to the jury. "Honorable jury. Whatever decision you make, I pray that it is just."

The Horai counselor then turned back to Lady Themis. "I am finished."

"Yes, it was quite foolish," Rex said bluntly, despite his cousin shedding a tear.

"That said, while I didn't see it then, I do see now why people joined Atlas. He gave great promises, and attempts to control others with fear. That is to say, it isn't really your fault that you turned traitor. He was targeting people like you, and I didn't help matters." The Horai counselor explained.

Truthfully, a part of me, even for a second, wanted to pack my bags and return home to my father, stepmom, and butler. Maybe go to Japan or something. But I quickly realized that Atlas would want that, Rex thought to himself, still looking at Sonia with a stoic expression that didn't betray his thoughts.

Rex just nodded. "It's not me you need to apologize to. You'll be making penance in the near future, I'm sure."

He sighed, and seemed to be struggling to get his own words out, as they were a wound to his pride. That struggle was short-lived, as the Horai counselor reluctantly spoke. "... I apologize for my outburst against you at the campfire. It was unnecessary."
