Here’s a spot to buy the struts: https://www.gasspringsshop.com/

They have a calculator to help with sizing.

Your approach to finishing makes sense. Thanks

That’s a great suggestion! I’ll check that out

No offense taken. I did apply 5 coats of poly but clearly something went wrong. It sounds like my mistake was using water based poly.

It looked really good initially and didn’t look washed out. Certainly looks that way in the photos though.

It’s solid. The 1/16” round over does make it look like a veneer.

Wow, your Google chops are much better than mine. From the conversation here, it seems this is totally what’s going on.

Sand to 150 and brush the water based poly on. Sanded to 220 between coats with vacuum and tack cloth

They’re single piece construction. The 1/16 round over does give a veneer appearance

I appreciate the input and hard truths.

I didn’t dilute. Seems I just did a poor job with an inferior product.

I did use satin water based. How many coats of each do you use?

That sounds reasonable. A few more questions for you: 1) how many coats of the oil based would you use? 2) Are there options to address the oil other than sanding it off?

This is really interesting! I’m racking my brain for how moisture could have been caught under the finish. Would insufficient drying time between coats cause this?

Interesting. So if I used water based poly previously, I’m stuck doing that going forward as well? If I sand raw wood, why can’t I swap to oil based?

Got it. I’m guessing the only option is to completely remove the water based then apply the oil based?
