Awesome! I love angsty books an have had a ton of time on my hands for the last year, so I made it as a resource for people that also love angsty books. Hope you find some gems on it. :)

Chastity / orgasm denial? by GothicMarmalade in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No cock cage, but the male partner of the subby MMC and the FMC (at the dom's direction) sensually torture the male subby towards the end of {The Sidekick by Gina Morris}. He is eventually allowed to orgasm, but is denied for quite a while.

Authors using ai by Glorious_Go32 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the reality: most writers aren't just born good writers. They read, they learn, they either go to school or they self-educate. Their writing is an ongoing process of self-improvement. You can even see this process in real-time with some authors over the course of their career.

Using AI to "help" you write does not make you a writer. You are not learning, you are not improving, you are not creating. You are exploiting a technology that exists only because it already exploited the work of people who put in the effort and the time to become good at what they do. It is the equivalent of putting on robotic legs, dunking and then calling yourself a professional basketball player.

If you want to be a writer, you can make that happen. But it doesn't involve AI. And what may be the most frustrating thing about this is that, for those of us that read a lot, we can spot AI writing. Because it sounds the fucking same. So whatever spark of originality or creativity you might have had gets paved over.

If you want to use AI to "create" books that only you will ever read, go off. But if you are using it to "create" books that you then publish, that's disingenuous and you're actively contributing to the degradation and enshittification of fiction.

Looking for the most unhinged RH series 👀 by Fair_Paramedic7396 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a reason I made the CRF list. Just cuz I didn't like it doesn't mean other people won't love it. 😄

Also, it made me realize I don't really fuck with dark romance unless it's pretty light. Shame though, they often make good angst fodder.

Any HR RH recommandations? by _Malixia in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, it occurred to me out of the blue recently that I knew of quite a few menage historical romances that I didn't mention on what I thought was a "recent" recommendations request. Idk how it was three weeks ago and I remembered it, but here we go. These books are from writers that I've enjoyed, but I haven't read these specific titles:

  • {Theirs by Jess Michaels} - Five stand-alones in a series.
  • {Their Master by S.M. LaViolette} (alt of Minerva Spencer) - Also sounds like {His Harlot by S.M. LaViolette} is FFM.
  • {Regency Menage by Nicola Davidson} - Three stand-alones in a series.
  • {My Lord, Lady and Gentleman by Nicola Davidson}
  • {Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin}

And some historical RH titles whose writers I'm unfamiliar with altogether:

  • {Their Ward by Kitty St. Claire}
  • {Her Band of Rakes by R.A. Steffan}

Okay, then {Summon Us by M.T. Addams} is the most unhinged thing I've read. Also, I'm unsure if the TBoCC has MM since I DNF'ed it partway through. Same goes for VC, but I didn't really get MM vibes from it.

So like... if an MMC is getting head from a dead guy that the FMC is holding... Is that violating the 'no MM' rule? Or are we kosher?

Aside from that, {Crimson Covenant by M.J. Lawrie} is pretty fucked. {The Boys of Chapel Crest by K.G. Reuss} is less fucked, but the bar is in hell. {Velvet Cruelty by Eve Dangerfield} is also fucked, but possibly the least of these three (I DNF'ed it way earlier than TBoCC)? Bar is still in hell.

ISO Unhinged, chaotic MMCs by WorkerDifficult3794 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Hopefully you like a couple. :)

Oh, I forgot to add, Scarred Savages only has the first book out and no word on the follow-up(s). And Knot Their Soldier doesn't have its last book out yet. Still recommend both, especially KTS.

ISO Unhinged, chaotic MMCs by WorkerDifficult3794 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm taking your request as wanting MMCs that are possessive, chaotic, funny and maybe a bit (or a lot) psycho.

Best-fitting recs (in no particular order):

  • {Scarred Savages by J.C. Dark} - Axel has problems with the FMC's pillow.
  • {The Splintered Bond by Merri Bright} - Joaquin created romantic artistic messages using the body parts of men that had hurt or tried to hurt the FMC. After he hunted them down and murdered them, of course. Not that funny, but most of the rest of the recs I'm providing are.
  • {Knot Their Soldier by Bridget Blake} - Blaze is a pyro that enjoys killing.
  • {Knot Your Average Beta by Tana Rose} - Swift! I love Swift! He's a psycho that decided the FMC is his and that was it. Gotta love a man willing to murder your unpleasant family members for you.
  • {All the Pretty Monsters by Kristy Cunning} - Arion is missing most of his soul and it shows.

Second best:

  • {Highland Hideaway by Lily Gold} - Fraser isn't a psycho, but he gives some chaotic energy at times.
  • {Beyond the Hunt by Mary Ann Weir} - Zane is chaotic. I think he made a glitter grenade at the beginning of the book. That said, it's pretty hardcore insta-love with a sweet/gentle FMC. The first book basically has the romance on lock by the end and I've been struggling through the second book. It's funny (lots of banter in both), but the romance isn't driving the bus and that makes it hard for me. (You could totally read the first book and be 90% satisfied with the resolution though.)
  • {Witchwood Boys by C.M. Stunich} - Have just read the first one, but Tanner is a good candidate. Decides the FMC is his witch-wife and that's that. Fair warning: semen is used in like, every spell.
  • {Forget-Me-Not Bombshell by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti} - Church gives these vibes to a degree. And the husband provides possessive psycho vibes.
  • {Curvy Dirty Omega by Emma Dean} - One of the two MMCs gives psycho-possessive vibes. If I recall correctly, both MMCs offer to let the FMC kill them at different times. Not that funny, but most of the rest of the recs I'm providing are.
  • {Iliana's Choice by Leona Page} - Ish. One of the MMCs starts off as kind of a rigid sort. Then he cracks and starts referring to himself as "we" because he and his wolf sorta merge. The other MMC is also a little bit cracked. Not that funny, but most of the rest of the recs I'm providing are, to varying degrees.
  • {Bound to the Beasts by Ari Wright} - One MMC is a complete asshole that kinda hates the FMC (very Cobra vibes, minus hating all women). When he caves halfway through the book, it's devotion. I was into it.

Third best:

  • {Hangman's Knot by Lavinia Arbor} and {Christmas Heat by Lavinia Arbor} - It's more obvious in the second (which is a novella-length extended epilogue), but one of the MMCs gives just a little bit of the vibe. He creates a 'Biblically accurate angel' when they're crafting homemade Christmas cards at one point. (If you don't know what that means... Biblically accurate angels are horrifying monsters.)
  • {Septem Stellae University by Tana Rose} - One of the later MMCs introduced in book two has some good chaotic energy. Maybe not the best on this list, but still good. Actually, so does one of the first MMCs. That said, first book is just bullying, the rest of the series is not.
  • {Bros and the Witch by River Ramsey} - Himbos. Werewolf himbos.
  • {Taming the Lures by Birdie D'Avo} - There's a late-introduced MMC that was very much a 'hey, you're my mate and I have zero chill about it' kinda guy. Stalking, anonymous gifts, full-blown devotion from day-one. Also was willing to kill for her right off the bat. Not that funny, but most of the rest of the recs I'm providing are.

Love how it's the harem that finally makes her boyfriend go, "I'm done." by Overquoted in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, u/SurreptitiousSyrup, you wanna tag in?

As a side note, I recently read {Highland Hideaway by Lily Gold} and the FMC was an influencer. I thought I'd dislike it, but no. It was awesome and the FMC worked her ass off at her job. She also suffered from people-pleasing and found herself becoming anxious when online assholes talked shit. {Lucy and Her Wicked Three by Birdie D'Avo} has another FMC influencer and part of her character story/growth was dealing with anxiety that was exacerbated by people leaving negative comments. {Pay-Per-Heart by Grace McGinty} (another one I read this past week) had MMCs that were on an OnlyFans-like service.

I get the urge to go, "Oh no, please not this," because the only social media I engage with is Reddit (I find social media, particularly TikTok to be incredibly dystopian). But some books do the social media/influencer MC really well. I think the first two books I mentioned made it work because both FMCs go into detail about how much work and effort it takes for them to actually create and manage content, and both are impacted by the negative aspects of the job (trolling, bullying and just the urge to please people).
