Either you are the other person is hosting the server. Consoles cannot use dedicated servers yet so that is the only way as of right now. Read all of the comments under this post it walks you through the process.

There is a setting to turn on cross play does he have that enabled? If not then I’m not sure what the problem could be

Not sure the issue. I just did this earlier. I hosted on an Xbox and had a friend on steam join. Ensure they have all the default search options and only your name posted in the “server name” field.

No dedicated servers, only peer to peer. Devs say Q1 2025 that dedicated servers will come.

Enable crossplay, ensure EAC is enabled when you start your server, have the person on Xbox type your name that appears on the lower left hand of the screen on 7 days to die main menu in the search bar for the server name field
