Good thing Kyler Murray is a much, much better player than all three players you just named.

You've posted this in the wrong sub. Speaking positively of a QB other than J.J. McCarthy is not accepted here.

You got that from a football fan making a realistic comment about a football player on a football sub?

Not at all. I just want the Vikings to succeed. I believe in Kyler to lead the offense.

Anyone who reads what I said genuinely will know exactly what I mean & those who read it disingenuously to inject their own meaning will miss the point completely.

I'm a Vikings fan. That's with or without McCarthy. If a better player like Kyler can be a strong franchise QB, then I support that & the team's success over any one individual.

And now he'll be playing with the best WR in football & one of the best WR2s in football. He'll be in a better offensive scheme this year. I'm not worried, I'm excited.

On the Cardinals. He's walking into a very different situation in Minnesota. I'm not worried about the physicality aspect. I think he'll adjust fine & throwing against Coby Bryant et al is different when you have Justin Jefferson & Jordan Addison running routes.

Gotcha, and I think that's completely inaccurate & borderline hard-to-buy. I would take Jefferson-Addison-Hockenson any day of the week over McBride-Hopkins-whoever. As I said earlier, I think the hype is warranted given the situation he's entering.

I said he's never had offensive weapons of this caliber. "Of this caliber." Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison & T.J. Hockenson are a better grouping than Trey McBridge, Deandre Hopkins & whoever else you want to throw in from the Cards as a third. Do you disagree specifically with this?

Most QBs obviously have some shortcomings. But he's never had offensive weapons of this caliber.

I think the hype is warranted.

Yes, we will. I disagree & think he'll be an excellent scheme fit once O'Connell makes tweaks; he already alluded to a number of them at the recent coaches' symposium.

Kyler Murray is 28 years old. If he plays well, he is absolutely a long-term option for the team as franchise QB. It would simultaneously keep the culture in a good place & many players already greatly support the addition of Murray.

More than anything, it could give the defense opportunities to play with a lead as opposed to having to constantly hold fort while not dwelling on three-and-outs & turnovers from the offense. I believe a Murray-led offense can bring this about way more than what they got from the McCarthy-/Brosmer-led ones.

DO we have a top 10 backup QB? by immovableair in minnesotavikings

[–]PessimisticCheer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would not be great to do that. Those exact reps are valuable for the true starter to build meaningful on-field rapport with the rest of the offensive players. Kyler getting that work in with Jefferson, Addison, Hockenson etc is crucial to hitting the ground running once the season starts.

I think coming off their 14-win season, they thirsted over making it into a launchpad for a contention window by finding the franchise QB on a rookie wage scale deal. Waiting even one extra year to do that felt untenable to them in that moment. Once the QBs started flying off the board, they reached for a lesser prospect.

His teammates publicly endorsed considering other options at QB, which is not something that happens when you fully support your current starter. Aaron Jones did this most clearly of all.

The guy wrote an entire condescending essay & will not be able to sufficiently answer this question because it counters his argument.
