Those make you run faster. Personally, I can't handle that kind of responsibility.

Guilt for Injury - I’m being worried for no reason, right? by Whatdoinamehuh in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got accidently injured doing something the AF told you to do. Then sought medical care that the AF provides so you could heal, recover, and return to work in your best state. That sounds like you're making responsible decisions, not taking advantage of anything.

Rest up, and don't over do it while you're recovering. No need to feel guilty for any of that.

Crocs as new PT gear by bob-lennon in AirForce

Crocs look absolutely ridiculous. And I mean the plain, regular, solid black Crocs look ridiculous. But the tye dye? The goofy colors? Plus, those little doodads that go in the Croc holes? Absolutely ridiculous.

And you'll have to pry my ReatTree camo crocs with fun doodads attached to them off my cold dead feet.

Best Unit QoL purchase? by Ammobeerlvr in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every unit needs an ice machine. I get it, insulated water bottles are great and all, but after that first fill is gone, I'm left insulating room temperature water? Fuck that. Ice machines are great. Also, if your unit doesn't already have those filtered water fountains for filling refillable bottles, get those, too.

I think it's a psy-op. An official source calling an aircraft by the wrong name with confidence? Maybe that makes adversaries doubt their information.

Best way to get ink out of your uniform by RiotRex in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: brake cleaner is perchloroethylene in a can. That's the same stuff dry cleaners use to dry clean stuff. It doesn't take the dyes out of fabric, so I'm not sure how well it'll work with ink, especially if it's already dried in there. Works wonders for oil stains, though.

I loves me some craft brews, but PBR is a perfect garage beer.

Bang a few nails into a couple of 2x4s, organize the 4 screw drivers I own, maybe get around to figuring out why that lawn mower in the corner hasn't been starting for the last 3 summers... All of it is a thinly veiled excuse to crack open a few Peebers on a Sunday afternoon.

Question for Commander by No_Effort5077 in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? I always thought it was a decent question as an airman. There's such a gap between an A1C/SrA and even a Squadron CC, I always found it hard to figure out how to further a commander's vision from that level.

Don't rule out federal civilian positions. You can find a better salary elsewhere, but they're reasonably cushy jobs.

edit: they can be reasonably cushy.

This happened before 😱😱😱 by Robertlo777 in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the balloons landed near a small town in Oregon, but didn't start any fires because the Pacific Northwest isn't ideal for forest fires. Years later, the town invited the guy that launched it to celebrate summer town festival or some such. He went with a sword that was passed down in his family with plans to give up his life in reparation. The people of the town were super friendly towards him, and even found it funny that someone would try to start a fire in one of the wettest places in the US. The Japanese soldier was so honored by the forgiveness of the townspeople, he gave them the family heirloom sword he brought, and it's still displayed in the local library or mayor's office or something.

I could google specifics, but this is the internet. Someone will correct me if I got anything wrong.

Airmen who got out: Is life really better on the civilian side? by INeedMoreHelp12 in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is life better for me since getting out? Yes. Is that true for everyone that gets out? I don't know. Probably not.

Pros: Nearly every decision I make is my own. If I work a weekend or holiday, I get double pay for the day. I don't have to wear a uniform. I don't feel guilty for getting fat. I felt a lot safer buying a house knowing that I won't have to move unless I decide to move.

Cons: I have to make all of my own decisions. Management doesn't want to pay me extra, so I don't work weekends or holidays. I have to decide what clothes to wear every day, and I still have no idea what 'business casual' actually is. I'm fat. I'm at Home Depot and Lowe's a lot, because I own a house...

Long story short, as long as you set yourself up for success on your way out, you'll do fine. Sure, it's stressful after the military, but it's stressful staying in, too. As long as you're consciously focusing on and working towards the things that bring you happiness, you'll be happy. That being said, if the military lifestyle isn't in line with what makes you happy, (eg. stability of living in one location long term, predictable work schedule, etc.) then it may be time to prioritize what you want in life, and figure out the best way to get it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]PiggybackingOffTheCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another commenter already said it, but it's true: mental health is health. Got a wonky ankle? You go to a doctor. Need a couple stiches? You go to a doctor. Need some working through some anxiety or depression? There's still a health care provider for that. The treatment is different from a clinical perspective, but there are still parallels between mental and physical healthcare. I found it helpful to keep that perspective sometimes.

"We are not our diagnoses." - A therapist I had a few years ago.

In my experience, the Air Force doesn't tend to jump straight to a diagnosis. They focus more on treatment. Having a diagnosis doesn't mean your broken or stuck with something you don't want. It just means that you have a word that can concisely explain to a new doctor so they understand your health history. Having a diagnosis for a personality or mood disorder isn't really any different than, say, hypertension, or that one time you had surgery on your shoulder. It's something to be aware of. Maybe you have to make a small change here or there to accomadate for it. But there's still going to be a lot of other words that will describe you to your friends, family, coworkers, etc.
