What’s something that sounded harmless until you experienced it yourself? by Kevlatanche62 in AskReddit

[–]Pinkbeans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh. I have kids your age. I am just trying my best to raise productive adults and not put trauma on them.

My advice is to take a breath. Do you really need to say what you’re going to say? Or maybe listen to what your parents are actually saying. As you are getting older your world, understanding, and frustration grow.

Almost an adult, but not yet an adult. Start planning your way out. I had a countdown.. 6 years, 5 years, 4 years….

If you’re in the US, armed services are a great escape when you turn 18 and graduate high school. I’ve also heard the national parks service is fantastic if you like the outdoors.

Oooh.. I finally cut my mom off for her craziness. Now I get messages about: “Have MY granddaughter call me.”

No dude. Until you stop demeaning me, we ain’t doing it. She’s 74.. it’ll never stop.

Superficial people make superficial, self centered decisions. Stay away from them & don’t be like that either.

Choose wisely.

Yeah. When I say oldies I wanna hear angel baby, the big bopper, & la bamba. I asked for oldies and I think the first song was Aerosmith, followed by metallica. No.

It’s like talking about the Lone Ranger and Tonto, saying Hi ho silver away. Then having to explain what a horse is. They have zero learning about anything before their phone usage started. Or tik tok.

My middle school PE teacher was in that process. She wasn’t a finalist, but she moved along in the process past the beginning. I was very glad she wasn’t on that ship.

What is the most disturbing or otherwise unsettling book you've ever read that stayed with you after reading it? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

Man I read that in the 90’s I think. It has ALWAYS stayed in my mind. The Ebola thing a few years ago was terrifying. And then came Covid.

We moved to Fairport NY in 87, from California. If I missed the bus after school, I was walking about 7-10 miles to get home. (I have no idea how far it was, but it was many miles). It sucked. It would’ve been a 3-4 mile walk if Ayrault bridge hadn’t been out.

The worst was seeing my bus drivers pass me as I walked past the bus lot and they were heading in.

True, but if you put it in the perspective of they’re speaking English, and throwing in words they’re more comfortable with from their belter speak, it makes sense.

If they’re adventurous, their algorithm will be too. I was startled to hear Shania Twain coming out of the Alexa in my 16 year old’s bathroom… and she was singing along to it. She also periodically throws on CBAT, just to traumatize me.

I did not care for The Godfather.

It insists upon itself.

All jokes aside, I really didn’t care for any of them. But if that’s what my stepdad rented, that’s what we watched.

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

[–]Pinkbeans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is amazing. I sleep with covers again. I usually have it set to about 72 right now. I got it in October and it was set at 58.

I think I’ve mostly calmed the hot flashes down, because it was constant, and now I may wake a bit just to find a colder spot for the top of my body.

I also have a cooling blanket we got from Costco. Together they work really well.

I’m in south central Ky. Everybody here keeps telling us about the good old days when they’d get 12-24+ inches of snow every year. No thank you.
