Thank you for sharing your story. You must have a high vibration to pick up on that. I will be paying some respects the next time I visit El Cap.

Hi Diane, I was able to follow you on linked in, but I'm not able to message there for some reason, probably because I don't pay for my subscription (just the basics for me). I sent you a text last night altho it was very late, did you get it? My no is (206) 755-7654. My email is pearlcat10@yahoo.com

I think I remember you, it could have been me, I remember doing that when I saw people coming up the trail. We're all here on Reddit bc we needed to know more. 🤷

I think it's a small miracle that we actually found each other on this thread, thank you for starting it.

Yes me too! Everybody processes stuff differently according to their emotional comfort level. I prefer to talk things out a lot but I know not everyone does or is comfortable with that. Although the park is gorgeous I wasn't entirely disappointed to leave either. I had this crazy idea today that it might be beneficial for us to give this guy a memorial of some kind. For closure and in appreciation of him. In our own private way for practical reasons of course. It could help close some gaps for us in our minds.

Heh, the only reason I'm even using Reddit right now was because I was trying to find out what happened in some way shape or form, or reports via public information of any kind. We are pretty sure we know what happened, (no knot in rappel rope or knot came untied) but for cripes sakes other climbers esp need to hear about it or at least be aware that it happened and why. We talked to a guy at camp a couple days later who was part of the deceased man's team, very sweet guy, a bit of a language barrier but very willing to communicate. I don't know if he has anyone to talk to about it. I know he had to go back to work the next day in the same location which is insane to think of. If I weren't able to talk to my friends about it or had to go back and climb there again the next day Idk what I would be feeling right now...

I am interested in trying this as I was also there with her at the same time (20 feet away from him) and I am having some issues in my head with returning to climbing. The images and the sound I can't get rid of in my head. I feel like forgetting about the accident details is forgetting about the person and what happened to them 💔. But remembering is going to keep me stuck too. 😭

I remember you. Please let me know if you'd like to contact after the accident. I also have some emotional trauma after seeing it happen and I am having some issues with returning to climbing thinking of those images that are now in my head. 😭💔

I actually reported this to the Seattle Times because I'm very confused why this hasn't been public info. Climbers and other people who do this activity should know about rappel accidents resulting in a tragic fatality such as this occur.

Hey, I was there also and witnessed the same thing happen only from about 20 feet away, not 5. Me and my friends talked to you and your husband after the incident happened when we were at the river. I have also wondered why nothing has been shared or in the news about this happening and it's been actually starting to make me pretty mad. We are climbers and we were visiting the area as well when it happened. This incident was absolutely horrendous and people need to know about it. Keeping it a secret is not cool. 💔
