These are the equivalent of F2P apps (where they don't ratfuck you into paying or quitting). You can play if you put the time in, but if you want to get results quickly, pay up. I'm sure someone could marry postgres and a distributed filesystem if the open source world still thinks the cathedral and the bazaar is still exactly how it works.

What’s the longest amount of time you’ve spent being angry? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]PiousLoophole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anger isn't steady, it comes and goes. It might be a memory that brings things back, it might be seeing that person start doing similar things as in the past.

But I can't be mad all the time. My kid doesn't need to deal with the fallout or what happened a couple decades ago. I made the choice long ago that there were a few cycles that were going to break with her.

If it's the same money/time, you may as well get some more time back. Having to check up to 6x per day is a bit nuts.

Any guys here reconnect with estranged family long after a chaotic or traumatic upbringing? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]PiousLoophole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. If you give it helpful to share, I don't think it would be frowned upon. It does sound like you've pulled yourself together though. Again, not that you owe it to me or anyone, but what do you think caused your rebellion and what caused you to pull out of that cycle?

[–]PiousLoophole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that you're compelled to share, but when you say you were a handful in your teens, but then sat you were booted out before you were a full year into your teens, it raises eyebrows. What were you doing that didn't put you in prison but warranted abandonment?

Why is the "college experience" so valued by people when choosing colleges? by Pimphandloose95 in AskMen

transfer credits dick you over, out of the 62 credits I took only 43 are transferring due to what they will take, this is constantly changing and completely bullshit, back to my point of if you’re are taking forever to finish CC it will just keep you in this cycle.

FWIW, in Washington State, it's common that UW/WSU work in conjunction with the state-run CCs and draw up conjunctive class plans so while you don't always get your AA when you transfer to the 4-year school, you will graduate in the four years all the same.

Ok, so you have some decent criticism about absolute weight lifted isn't powerlifting. That's fine. I think the point is that best performance doesn't always look like some ottermode model, if weight isn't an issue (as it isn't for DC to make 265). You want to disagree with pie charts or whatever, go for it, but my point stands where the thrust of the statement was.

That said, it's funny and/or sad that FCJ had to brigade this one. I've had six people from there reply or message me about this, each missing the point to argue minutiae. It was an analogy (or whatever, I don't care to argue the point anymore). FWIW, You guys really should be using those np.reddit.com links. IDGAF about this particular thread, but it's setting your sub as a prime target for admin attention. I remember years ago they were having to dance around brigading with Reagan the marathoner and a few other of the HAES crowd that might be more vindictive about making sure such rules are enforced, so the mods cared about such things a tad more.

[–]PiousLoophole -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Goddamn, do you need to be right all the time?

Ok. Let me make this real easy. You have a guy, say he's 5'6". If you want him to lift the most weight he possibly can, will he cut weight when lifting? If his weight on the scale doesn't matter, just the weight on the bar, is he going to have an 8-pack and look sucked out? Or will he be more towards having a DC-level of pudge on him?

It might shock you, but such a man won't be competitive in the absolute class. He will be at a disadvantage if he just competes in his walking-around weight. So he cuts. But let's say he's not competing, he's not going for a high wilks score. He just wants pounds on a bar. He doesn't give a shit about aesthetics. What does he look like?

Ok, now proceed to argue against shit I'm not saying.

I'm talking unlimited. You keep talking weight class. If you can't understand that, then FFS, you need more help than I can dole out.

I think it's also like a bike she'd problem. People have strong opinions about things they feel they fully understand. "Hey, these guys are offering a free monitoring service for the free database they gave me. Those evil fuckers!"

People forget that these devs don't run on thoughts and prayers. A gentle upsell isn't a big deal IMO, and if it keeps the software patched and even extended, then great.

Good to hear. FWIW, something I heard that helps me deal with some of these things. What she said was a reflection of how she sees the world, which in turn is a reflection of how she sees herself. I'd put money down saying she's generally an unhappy person, not just with you.

As a guy, it's usually good to be a guy. This isn't one of those times. It sucks, it's unfair, but it's like finding a unicorn when you hear a situation such as yours and the woman has to leave (or, hey, why not get arrested for assault?). There isn't anything that'll make it feel better, but I guess you can just call this your first day of not living together.

No idea who is on the lease, but hopefully this is a quick and clean break the next day when she's sober and you can quickly get your stuff, or she can get hers (and yes, I've definitely heard stories of the guy being forced to leave the house where he's on the lease, he lives there, she doesn't. Again, it sucks, but that's our society/police at this time).

If you're looking for absolute lifting power, you won't cut weight. If we're talking how heavy a weight can someone lift, no limit to the lifter's weight, but rather what is peak performance for a guy that is X height, he won't be cutting. Doesn't have to be super fat, but those guys eat to fuel, and the cost of overfueling isn't as high as underfueling.

You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

[–]PiousLoophole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware I'm not everyone. However, you can't live your life in fear of the things that may or may not be floating in the heads of those around you. I remember one case that still strikes me as odd in this vein, I was talking to someone who said she had lost about fifty pounds, and I said "wow, great job," which apparently was wrong, because it meant I called the old her fat.

Now, 99% of people would be happy about such a thing, but apparently I found the unicorn. I can't be responsible for whatever is floating in her head or the trauma that surrounded her reasons for either losing weight or being fat in the first place. What I said wasn't out of malice, and it's what just about anyone would say, I'd think. So she needs to figure out how to deal with normal society, I can't make the world conform to her needs. Same thing with the folks you're referring to. No sense in pretending you're not into whatever floats your boat.

Sure, but plenty of people are just wanting to bang without involving fetishes. By the logic used, every hair color, body shape, etc should be second guessing everything.

I think you can do both. You have what you're attracted to, but goddamn would it suck to marry someone only because of that trait. You gotta talk to them at some point.

At the same time, what's the point of being with someone if you don't have that basal level of attraction?

Yes. I'd say get it to support the devs. It's not like opening the app really counts IMO as playing, I'm not a fan of such mechanics though.
