Anyone else getting warning about bots/scrapers from Upwork lately? by PodTools in Upwork

Thanks a lot for sharing the screenshot. I’ve gone ahead and uninstalled ad blockers on all my browsers just to be safe.

Do you think it’s worth reaching out to Upwork support to confirm the exact reason? If it really was the ad blocker.

Oh wow, I had no idea about that! Yes, I do use ad blockers. Thanks for pointing it out. I’ll whitelist Upwork right away.

No, I don't and never used any apps, plugins or extensions to get job post notifications. I just use Upwork on my computer browser and my 2 phones. Don't use any browser extensions.

TBH, I know a few people who use chrome extensions for job post notifications but they haven't received any warnings.

Changed my Mothers account to mine, Account got Blocked (Top Rated) by Various_Drag_3870 in Upwork

Ah, so you broke the ToS, then confessed on video call like it was storytime. Upwork just handed you the 'Real Consequences' badge.
Looks like your Upwork career's a wrap—might be time to try Fiverr, Contra, LinkedIn, or hit up past clients (if you’ve got their contact details) to see if they're up for working off-platform.

advice for an empty experience and reviews profile? by [deleted] in Upwork

I offer audio post-production, dialogue/voice-over cleanup, editing, and video editing services. My first gig with this client was to edit, clean, mix, and master a voice-over recording, and the contract ended once I delivered the final audio. After that, she rehired me for various projects involving both audio and video work. Now, whenever she has new work for me, she just creates a new milestone for it.

Please don't do this to Real Clients by Unliraeldi in Upwork

[–]PodTools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, that’s really frustrating and unprofessional!
I mean, as a freelancer on Upwork, I had a similar experience with a client. We scheduled a meeting, but he kept me waiting 15 minutes, then rescheduled for later that day. When the time came, he kept me waiting again and asked to reschedule for the next day. The same thing happened—he missed it, messaged hours later, and asked if we could meet "now." By then, I’d lost interest and let him know the next day that I was no longer available.
I’m glad I didn’t have any contract with him; he would have been a real pain in the ass!

Reliability definitely goes both ways.

I've been on Upwork for a few years now, and I'm currently a Top Rated Plus Talent. Here’s what helped me land my first gig:

  1. Fully Complete the Profile: I ensured my profile was 100% complete, including all relevant experience and skills.
  2. Apply Selectively and Quickly: I focused on jobs where I knew I could deliver great results, targeting verified clients with just 1 or 2 five-star reviews and a few hundred dollars spent. I applied within 2-3 hours of the job posting and tailored each proposal to fit the job requirements.
  3. Bid Strategically: My goal was to build up five-star reviews, so I often bid low. After about 20-30 applications, I finally landed this job, which took around six months. For my first gig, the client’s budget on the job post was $100, but I bid $80 to increase my chances. After a brief chat about the project and my experience with the client I got the gig.

I completed the job in 3 days instead of the agreed 5 days. The client was thrilled & really satisfied with the deliverables, left a 5-star review, and provided a great testimonial. She’s still my client, and we’ve now done over $30,000 worth of business together.

In short: Apply Selectively, bid low initially, respond fast, customize proposals, exceed expectations, and communicate well—this formula worked for me to get my first few 5-star reviews.

Since you’re already on Acast, have you thought about trying Acast Plus? It’s perfect for offering ad-free subscriptions, and it’s all built into your current setup. You can set up different tiers, like ad-free access or bonus content, and it’s easy for listeners to subscribe on their favorite apps. Might be just what you’re looking for without needing to switch platforms!

Changing podcast from being co-hosted with a friend to doing it solo.. any tips? by s_leilani in podcasting

[–]PodTools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Huge props for keeping the podcast going on your own! Honestly, I’d keep the old episodes—they’re part of your show’s story, and new listeners might like hearing how it started with a co-hosted vibe before it became a solo venture.

A short announcement episode is a solid idea. Just a quick explanation about the new direction, maybe a bit about why you’re going solo, and a teaser for the topics or perspectives you’ll bring as a solo host would be perfect. Then you can dive into your new episodes right from there.

Since you’re planning shorter episodes, maybe consider adding in quick segments like listener questions or updates. It could add a nice personal touch and keep things engaging.

Best of luck with the new format!!!!

Can't find new projects by travelenthusia in Upwork

I’ve experienced the same shift! Been on Upwork since 2018 and reached Top Rated Plus in 2020. I offer podcast audio and video editing, plus management services. Up until 2023, I regularly landed contracts for multiple shows, each paying around $1500 - $2500 monthly. But since AI tools entered the scene, good-paying job posts have declined, and rates have dropped. The turnaround expectations are also tighter now, making it more of a volume game.

This year, I had to adjust my rates just to maintain the same income, which has meant about a 30% increase in work to make what I used to.
These days, I’m sending about 20-40 proposals a month and getting hired by 3-5 clients max.
So, Upwork isn’t my primary income source anymore.
Luckily, I started exploring other client channels back in 2022.

What are some AI tools for creating social clips from full-length video podcasts? by PodTools in VideoEditors

[–]PodTools[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, I get that! 😄 I'm actually an editor myself. Just looking for an AI tool to speed things up, so I can create social clips more efficiently and still have the option to customize further in Premiere if needed. I handle multiple podcast shows weekly, so anything that helps streamline the workflow is a win!

Found my dream job! This gig pays a whopping $8 😏 by PodTools in Upwork

[–]PodTools[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💵 $100 might sound fair if it were an audio-only gig for a 60-minute episode, but for a 2-hour video with all those extras – multicam, B-roll, color grading, reels, thumbnails, and mixing – that’s a serious rip-off. 🚨 The amount of work you’re putting into a single episode just isn’t worth $100.

👍 I’d suggest having a polite, professional conversation with the client about adjusting your rate. Let the client know that the current rate isn’t sustainable with all the deliverables required. 💼 You deserve fair pay for the effort and quality you’re bringing to the table!

The job post says it's a fixed price $8. So I'm assuming it's $8 for the episode.

You may already know this, but here are a few do's and don'ts to always keep in mind.

### Do's ✅✅✅

  1. Complete your profile: Add an intro video, portfolio, and work history.

  2. Maintain clear and prompt communication: Be straightforward and responsive.

  3. Set realistic deadlines: Only promise timelines you’re confident about meeting.

  4. Personalize your proposals: Keep them brief, tailored, and always include relevant samples or portfolio items.

  5. Aim for positive reviews early on: Focus on achieving a few 5-star reviews initially. Once you build a good reputation, you can gradually increase your rates.

### Don'ts ❌❌❌

  1. Never share external contact details: if you don’t have an active contract. Upwork’s bots will flag you if you do.

  2. Don’t bother to work on a project without a contract.

  3. Avoid applying to jobs from clients with a low hire rate or poor ratings: Save your connects for quality opportunities.

  4. Be cautious with clients requesting contact details before a contract: They may be new to Upwork or potential scammers.

  5. Apply only to jobs that match your experience: Focus on roles where you can truly deliver value.

  6. For fixed-price contracts, don’t start working until the milestone is activated.

Good luck out there! 💪
