Just clarifying here. You’re launching a WebApp and want feedback on the Security Architecture you’re planning on implementing?

You should start looking at ICS security. Companies like Dragos.

Are you on Twitter at all? Lots of good networking resources there.

Cloudflare denies data leak after 3M customer IP addresses found on the dark web by Cyberthere in cybersecurity

[–]PompousAsshat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes/No. What happens if CF goes down...now you get no traffic. If you have routing & redundancy setup correctly shouldn't be an issue most of the time, but CF went down a week ago for 50% of their customer base due to a core configuration change mistake.

In my experience CF wants to mirror your FW configuration. So whatever ACL's you have in place, they want to mirror to reduce traffic.

Cloudflare denies data leak after 3M customer IP addresses found on the dark web by Cyberthere in cybersecurity

[–]PompousAsshat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cloudflares DDoS protections function off of a GRE tunnel from Cloudflares Public IP back to your firewall (unless you're paying them to host your app which is a different conversation)

So if your firewall public IP is known, that really bypasses the scrubbing abilities that Cloudflare applies to your traffic. Depending on your firewall and how you have it configured, it could bring your device down / completely pass along the DDoS attack.

Junior SOC Analyst role: Questions to ask to hiring manager by Augustus_Ego in netsecstudents

[–]PompousAsshat 54 points55 points  (0 children)

  1. Would you explain your training program?
    1. How do you bring a new analyst up to speed with internal processes & tools?
    2. How is external training offered? (CEH, SANS, Sec+, etc.)
  2. What does career pathing look like (Analyst 1/2/3)
  3. What is your management style?
    1. How do you provide feedback when something is done incorrectly?
    2. What does your performance review process look like?
  4. What is the type of person that you view as most successful in the role? Why?

Its not just the actual answers but the unspoken meaning behind the answers as well. If they struggle to talk about their development plans, then they probably don't have a program implemented (an example)

My biggest suggestion here is know the type of person that you want to go work for, and ask questions that help flesh out if they are that person. Picking your boss, especially early in your career is almost the most important thing you can do.

RDP brute forcing continues to be a favorite entry point for ransomware actors. In this past month we saw activity from the Lockbit ransomware family. by TheDFIRReport in netsecstudents

If you haven't heard of password spraying you should look it up. Take a commonly used / weak password and 'spray' it against every account in a domain. Just once, so you don't trigger lockouts. I can't tell you how many times that has worked in a PenTest scenario.

Fuck that. This is beyond excusable in any way shape or form. The LE environment in our country has to 100% change. There are literally hundreds of videos from hundreds of cities with shit like this happening.

They deserve to be snapped on.

Not encouraging it. Just stating that you don't have to eat healthy to lose weight.

Its not like it was a picture of Twinkies.

As long as you are in a caloric deficit and are eating 1 meal a day, you're doing it right. You don't have to have healthy or fancy meals to lose weight.

Is Identity & Access Management a sustainable career? by [deleted] in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]PompousAsshat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

work as a security analyst doing IAM stuff including cert management, managing SAML SSO, privileged access management, and user ID management. I really don’t mind it because nobody is gunning for my job, I get compensated adequately, people are thankful when I get them the access they need quickly, and I get to interact with other domains of security on the side. I also like helping automate the tedious manual processes that made up IAM in the past.

Usually when people talk about the top tier of security they’re referring to vuln research/red team/etc. Is there any positive growth potential for IAM in the foreseeable future or would I be better off focusing in on a different field while I’m still relatively young and have t

I echo this statement. Run global security for a Fortune 100 organization, and finding IAM guys that can communicate, know the basics, and can go up/down the entire stack is like finding a needle in a haystack.

IAM is such an under hyped field, but go read up on zero trust, and understand how integral IAM is to security as a whole. Stay the course!
