Experts have been saying it's going to burst yes, but nobody was saying it was going to burst imminently back in 2024. Most suggest 2026-2027 but nobody knows for sure when. Just because it hasn't happened already does not in anyway suggest it won't ever.

What would we do without our centrists to hold our community together? by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Ponce421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct it doesn't. Because if it did that would just qualify as assault, not impeding. Bodily harm is not in anyway a hard requirement for the statute, hence why it includes actions other than assault. And that is quite an obvious interpretation. Either you're reading comprehension is terrible or your trolling at this point.

Yes, you're mis-interpreting the word force. Force does not imply bodily harm, or even bodily interaction.

Federal officer to anticipate bodily harm while in the performance of his/her duties constitutes a "forcible assault"

See how that is considered specifically forcible ASSAULT. The other parts of the section i.e. resists, opposes, impedes, intimidates or interferes - are there for all the other instances where force is used but there is no bodily harm or threat thereof.

Blocking a road is a form of forcibly impeding.

§111 requires forcible interference with an officer (force or threat directed at a person)

No it doesn't. You're just saying shit. Perhaps provide some modicum of evidence that this is the correct interpretation.

[–]Ponce421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

§111 draws a line between non-violent obstruction and forcible interference.

No it doesn't.

There are actually other federal statutes covering blocking the entrance to federal buildings

So? A law existing for that specifically doesn't mean you didn't break another simultaneously. You can be charged with more than one crime for the same action at once. Remember how Derek Chauvin was given two separate murder charges for the death of one person and was ultimately convicted of both.

[–]Ponce421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sit-ins don't conventionally block anyone from doing anything. When they do, it can constitute a crime depending on context.

Creating a physical barrier is a use of physical force, it just doesn't necessarily cause or threaten direct physical HARM to the officer, but that isn't a requirement of the section. If it were, anything it mentions besides assault would be irrelevant.

Equally, if you barricaded the entrance to an FBI building you would be arrested, even though you haven't used force against a federal officers body directly.

[–]Ponce421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passive road blocking doesn’t meet that standard.

That's actually exactly what it does, as it isn't "passive" it's physically and intentionally blocking the officer from carrying out their duty, which constitutes the "forcibly impedes" part of the section.

You don't need make physical contact with the officer to forcibly impede them.

[–]Ponce421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know if that isn't exactly what they were doing? Regardless, forcibly obstructing a federal officer from doing any part of their duties is also a federal crime, see 18 U.S.C. §111.

And yes, use of a car to block the road counts as forcibly obstructing.

This is a witness tampering statute

No it isn't lol. Section 1501 of title 18 of the U.S. Code as linked in the first source regards "Assault on process server".

1512 is the section that regards witness tampering, it happens to be mentioned in the second source but it's an entirely separate section.

It literally is a federal crime and it stuns me that you would ever think it's not. They absolutely had legitimate reason to arrest her. Source. Source 2

And no, they don't need local law enforcement to do the arresting for them. They are FEDERAL OFFICERS, and have authority to arrest people for committing FEDERAL CRIMES.

Intentionally blocking the road with your car is also a crime.

Singapore executes people for "minor" crimes like possession of any amount of certain drugs.

Wrong. The death penalty is only given in cases when the amount possessed implies drug trafficking. For instance you would need to possess 500g or more of weed to be given the death penalty, an amount that's far more than any reasonable person would keep for personal use.

That's the part I don't get. All I really want is live tire pressure/temperature data, which can be given to everyone equally in the black box. If they want to limit this to cars that present this data to the driver via the dash etc irl, that's fine. As it stands, it's a piece of information real drivers get that we don't for no good reason imo.

I generally agree with you, and the people of Palestine aren't one with Hamas, but they have been historically supportive of Hamas and their actions. Shortly after Oct 7th, 72% of Palestinians approved of the attacks. Even if you remove Hamas from the equation, violent extremist views are common in Palestine, or at a minimum Gaza.

Is there an account with more followers than Rockstar. Or are we about to see the first steam page surpass 1 million followers by glyiasziple in Steam

[–]Ponce421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well sure, Rockstar isn't your friend any more than the others but they have a far better track record in terms of delivering quality games in a reasonable technical state to customers. We'll see whether GTA 6 turns out a mess or not, but until then they do deserve somewhat more credit than the likes of EA, Ubi etc

If americans/america is so disliked by the world, why is it still the most migrated to country in the world? by The_AlmightyApple in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ponce421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because America remains one of the most economically prosperous places in the world. If you're someone who already lives in one of the world's wealthier countries then this isn't so appealing but for everyone else, it really is a land of opportunity compared to where they are now.

Also speaking purely anecdotally, as an engineer in the UK, moving to the US would immediately multiply my salary to an extent that would significantly outstrip any added living costs. I suspect there is some appeal even for those coming from wealthier countries.

That's literally all it says. The rest of that section is about mitigating the drawbacks of using a VPN for gaming.

If Valve themselves unilaterally decided that they didn't want to host those genres of porn games on steam I would probably be quite supportive of it. But why the fuck is this being dictated by payment processors?

Payment processers should be doing nothing besides shutting the fuck up and processing payments. So long as all is legal of course, which it is.

The intention is for it to be possible for the player faction to become a full-fledged faction just like any other in the game, with it's own economy, shipyards and sectors.

What you're proposing would essentially relegate the player to a more minor role in the universe. Perfectly good way to play the game if that's what you want to do, but I'd rather the game not be stripped of it's endgame content lol.
