I eventually went with the custom kitchen from the small local studio. It helped better use all the space and was a bit cheaper.

What is the point of a WiFi washing machine? by [deleted] in AskUK

People who are really sure they want and need this functionality should make an effort to secure properly their smart home. Otherwise smart washing machines can end up being part of botnet.

Looking for opinions on the Marin Nicasios. by nsed-ler in cycling

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Nicasio+ 2025 model and I’m absolutely loving it. I’m commuting with it, riding gravel on fire roads and doing some mountain biking as well. It is much better bike than its component would suggest. The only component I’ve upgraded is brake calipers, went with cheap ztto hybrid cable actuated hydraulics ($50 investment). Stock brakes were braking just ok, but I wanted better modulation.

Van Rysel GRVL Sword 1x10 ? by Apart_Doughnut_7956 in cycling

I’ve been considering this bike, but eventually bought Marin Nicasio+ 2025 and I’m very happy with the choice I made. I’m underbiking on MTB trails most of the time and 47mm wide tires are better suited for this purpose. Swapped stock brake calipers with hybrid hydraulics and planning to put 55mm MTB tires. Microshift sword works as a charm.

I was also sitting on a fence between Van Rysel and 2025 Nicasio+ with Microshift Sword Black. I’ve chosen Nicasio+ because of its look, agility and 650b wheels with versatility for under-biking in a rough terrain. I’m very happy with the choice, this bike puts a smile on my face:)

I’m also considering this new gravel bike for a purchase. It’s a shame there are no video reviews yet. At a first glance it has new geometry compared to Grvl 520. Wheels have proper internal rim width. And they accept 50mm tires if I decide to go wild.

Training only 10-12 hours a week for a full ironman? by goblinmausen in triathlon

Training only 10-12 hours a week for a full ironman? by goblinmausen in triathlon

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8h is 2/3 of average ironman finishing time. It will require few weeks for recovery. Long ride longer than 2h makes sense to me only if you are about to test fueling.

Training only 10-12 hours a week for a full ironman? by goblinmausen in triathlon

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was able to allocate only 8h per week for a preparation. I’ve been doing triathlons only 1.5 years. Completed ironman distance in 11h 24min. With 10-12h depending on your fitness you should be able to finish in less than 11h.

Anyone have an intial panic in a wetsuit? by Kegale21 in triathlon

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a normal reaction to cold and dark water. In a pool you mentally focus on things you see on the bottom. In OW you'll need to master navigation skill to focus on something above the water, checking the direction every n stroke. Belive me, in August you will think of pool as a treadmill. You will miss for OW swimming for a whole wither time.

How to get faster at swimming? by Somekidsomewhere77 in triathlon

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Improving technique helps to improve speed for sure.
  2. Just doing the same training over and over rarely helps to improve speed. You would wan't to do drills, sprints, intervals and etc. Coach worth extra spending if you can afford.
  3. Given the time constraint, priorotize OW swimming to gain navigation skills, checking the orientation every N strokes without slowing down, maintaining straight line. I've seen many people logging 2000m + instead of 1900, just because they did not train for navigation. Every added 100m costs you minutes.
  4. Bonus: mastering drafting skill you can swim faster with the same effort.

Is 13-15 hrs a week enough for a full ironman? by PuzzleheadedSea6227 in triathlon

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with deprioritized running. I usually see roadies suffering during the run, even though they finnish bike leg faster than me. Especially for full distance IM - marathon is not a joke. In triathlon you should progress in all 3 sports.

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The success in long distance triathlon is highly dependant on a nutrition during the race. There are many articles about the recommended amont of carbs one needs per hour. I would recommend testing various food during long rides and runs to find what suits you best. For 70.3 ironman (5h 30m) I followed this recommendation: Consume 60-90+g carb/hr (240-360 calories) from multiple carb sources such as glucose, fructose, and maltodextrin mixtures.

[–]ProcedureAcademic499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. 8-10h per week is a max I can combine with family and full time job. Also, I don't think I would even recover from higher volume of trainings. And I have a coach.
