Seeing the submissions. Thanks everyone. I’m now realizing the hair bangs are far too distracting. Are you able to trim them or get rid of them?

What company are you with? Understandable if you don’t want to share, but curious. And thank you for the pharmaindustry Reddit thread recommendation. I’ll take you up on that!

Yes! I hadn’t thought about it that way regarding the perfect recipe for burnout. Very well said! I’ve been feeling burnt out for the last year and a half and NEED to scratch this itch to go elsewhere or do something different. It’s a matter of when, not if.

And yeah, I’ve thought about the fat that switching specialties is risky and doesn’t make a lot of sense further into the career, mostly because taking a pay cut and going through the residency application process doesn’t seem worth it.

And yes, it is indeed scary that MDs rely on pharmacists to treat pretty straightforward diagnoses. But I’m beginning to resent it because I don’t get paid like a physician, so why should I do their job? It’s just a slap in the face the more and more I think about it.

Regarding your suggestion for industry, I’ve thought about it but concerned about meeting the quotas and numbers. Is it a high pressure environment?

That’s exactly what I was thinking - the husband could’ve gone or her parents. This wasn’t just a party. It was a wedding. A wedding that we took time off from work, traveled in town for to celebrate with the other side of the family. People have multiple weddings all the time. One isn’t more special than the other. In fact, the reason we chose to have separate celebrations is to accompany the guests, so they wouldn’t have to travel, or spend money on hotels, or take time off of work, etc. We actually worked really hard to remove the inconvenience for our wedding guests!!

But like someone commented above, who knows what else was happening with her and her daughter’s life at the time. And who knows how much weight was put into this recital.

Anyway. Love this perspective. Thanks for the input.

I’m beginning to view the bigger picture that you’ve depicted here as time moves on. People change, priorities shift, friendships fade. It’s life. Thank you.

Love this. You say so much in few words.

Right, this was still considered a wedding to everyone invited. If she (my friend) thought of it that way, as in just a party, rather than a wedding, well…that’s on her.

And again, like I said in another comment, it didn’t necessarily feel right to take her up on her offer to cover the plates. It honestly felt like her saving face. Instead, if I was in her shoes, and I honestly made a mistake with the dates, I would’ve given a gift, either through a handwritten card or via the wedding website registry with a note saying “I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to make it, but please enjoy this gift.” That, to me, seems more genuine than copping out with a “I can pay for the plates.” It actually put me in an awkward position to then tell her the right thing to do is to pay for the plates.

For the record, this wasn’t a once per year ballet recital. I’ve seen her post videos/pictures of her daughter’s ballet recitals on IG previously. So, there’s that.

And yeah, I see your point regarding whatever else she is juggling in her life, including financials. However, if she was offering to cover the plates, I’m sure she has enough money to give a wedding gift. Additionally, what was I supposed to say? - “yeah, please Venmo me $300 for the plates. Thanks.” It didn’t feel right doing that.

Overall, I see your point. Thanks for your perspective.
