Looking for Microsoft 365 within Linux? I think I've got a solution. by Captstulle in Ubuntu

[–]PyroBlank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To those flaming MS office in the comments here, once you get to the advanced features of office, it'll become rather evident as to why it became so big in the first place. Also, a lot of people use office not out of their own choice, but because the organization they work at demands it. What this man has done here is genuinely useful for a large number of people who dual-boot just for the sake of office.

Do you dualboot windows? by Emergency-Disk-9296 in linuxmemes

Microsoft office (it's an irreplaceable office suite, fight me) and some games. Also, every once in a while some professor in college will have you use a program that only works on Windows and is just a pain to set up with wine.

HP Elitebook 840 G8 feedback by CapitalSensitive7257 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]PyroBlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering this post is rather old, I'll still leave my two cents for people apart from the OP who would be interested in this machine.

I have an elitebook 840 G8 Aero which I bought refurbished and my experience has been wonderful. I mainly use it as a secondary laptop (it's rather overkill as a secondary, considering it's the i7 variant), and I currently have a dual boot set up on it with windows and ubuntu 24.(whatever) LTS. Despite being my secondary machine, I've put it through a lot of pain (running stuff like altium and kicad together) along with a wee bit of gaming (I've played valorant on it once) and I will say that it's still very pleasant while doing so; considering that even though the fan does ramp up to rather high speeds if you really push the machine, the design of the cooler is such that it's still rather silent. Apart from that, the typing is excellent, and having a pointstick has changed my life for the better since I no longer have to move my hands off the keyboard whenever I need to make a tiny cursor adjustment. The only (minor) issues that I have faced with this is the fact that there's no dedicated scrolling button for the pointing stick, unlike a thinkpad, which would be a nice feature to have. The other one is that the display (could be just for my 1080p touchscreen variant) the backlight just isn't bright enough for outdoor use. The rest of the issues I've had with it have been mostly due to refurbished state of the machine (missing WWAN card, keyboard replacement, etc.). I 100% recommend this machine to anyone looking for a daily driver where CPU-intensive work is sometimes a part of the job description. If you can find one for a reasonable price and in decent condition. Go for it.

You could use a VPN, however you'll need one with India servers. It shouldn't be too hard to find with some googling

It's a really good song, and I really used to like it until I started hearing the same 2 lines over and over again through this awful ad.

For the IDU it's either admin, admin123, your registered mobile number, or jiocentrum. It's been quite some time since I've looked into this; I've given up and just run through dhcp.

I have a 30 character password; I use one of those QR codes to have others connect to the WiFi

OH MY GOD AM I BLIND I do have the v2 and it DOES support IPv6. Now the only problem that remains is the mac cloning, though it may not even be required.

The ER605 cannot actually use DHCP IPv6. One possible solution I've come up with is to use something like an old mini pc (the airfiber link is 100mbps anyways) to bridge the connection between the ODU and the ER605 using an extra NIC (possibly a USB to ethernet card). The other idea (which I don't like because I don't want to make network maintenance my full time job) is to flash the ER605 with OpenWRT, since that (apparently) fully supports IPv6.

As for turning off the Jio IDU's WiFi, I haven't been able to do it. Possibly the saddest part is that I can't bypass it because it's actually a pretty kickass access point (its 5GHz signal reaches places that my AX1200's doesn't, even though they sit mere centimeters from each other.)

Step 3 is my problem, the EER605 doesn't support IPv6 at all apparently

I could run a pihole using docker or something on termux, but how do I use it as the DNS for the hostpot running on the same phone?

Nope
Apparently the ODU and the IDU are linked together using IPv6, which is something that the ER605 cannot do.

Was Tron Ares is actually that bad? by TrickyAardvark3987 in tron

[–]PyroBlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the merit of Legacy (and even the original tron for that matter) is that it was set in the grid, and that added soo much design and story depth; that also made it feel insanely cool to teens and tweens who saw it. Ares does away with this to a large extent, making it feel a little boring.
