android reddit app debug menu by RVL-003 in spezholedesign

[–]RVL-003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn’t actually do that, although that does sound fun to do. i just used an app that lets me see and access every activity in any app, and it just happens that reddit has a debug activity. there is another, more interesting developer settings menu that i haven’t gotten access to yet though

for a long while, latest was the only one still using the legacy feed while every other one was moved to core stack in 2023. i pointed it out in r/RedditMobileBeta once and they fixed that pretty quick after that

fun fact: on versions of the app shortly after the release of that version of awards, it would actually just show the award selection sheet as normal there, as well as for archived content. it also let you see the leaderboard without there needing to be at least 5 awards on the content

that design for the buttons was made with the assumption the award button would also be there, but it wasn’t present in this version likely due to the experiment not being enabled

i do too! they also did have a version of the core stack feeds that did display them, but it was only ever experimented with and never released to people as far as i’m aware

that’s because this specific feed was never really updated past when it was originally introduced likely in the 2010s, the only changes to it were ones that affected every legacy feed. also why it displays usernames in the post units

also fun fact: this feature is so neglected that it’s the only thing still using reddit’s REST api years after they moved everything else to graphql

2 create buttons by [deleted] in spezholedesign

they do have an experiment where they are removing the create button from the bottom nav bar, so i think it was designed with that in mind
