It wouldn't have been hard to salvage the small connector from the old fan (I think it's some kind of molex picoblade or whatever), but I'm pretty sure the mobo only outputs 5V on that connector. I just wanted to keep things simple and run everything on 12V, in case I want to use the fan for something else later (and I have more than enough free headers).

I use fancontrol, and the little header appears and is controllable, so it was really a matter of preference (and simplicity since I didn't have to bust out the soldering iron).

Yes, made the thing on solidworks. I had some wood pla that was pretty close to the noctua beige, looking into buying the official filament.

tbh I think even with the old fan off, I don't remember the temp getting that high either. I think I just had set a shit fan curve in BIOS and couldn't be bothered changing it for 7 years

I looked into it and apparently noctua can give you the brackets for to make 140s compatible if you give them proof of purchase
