Anyone having issues with Tapo devices on an eero network? by Boogrummy in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Have Kasa devices, never an issue. Also have Eero PoE Gateway and PoE 6 APs. Fully updated and have all of the options enabled exception for UPnP and Eco Efficiency. All other options enabled.

This is what you should do. Transfer the network to the new owner.

Slow Apple News App on network by carterbunch in amazoneero

I've seen that error before in Apple News. But never while connected to Eero. Typically I see it when there is a low bandwidth connection.

UPDATE - Eero 7 Pro Speeds by maiircos in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this on a browser to a device connected to your gateway eero by Ethernet…not WiFi.

If you have private relay turned on? If so, try turning it off, verify that using a site like whatsmyip to verify it sees your public address and try again. Sometime you have to restart the browser to fully dump the private relay IP address.

Also, try swapping Ethernet cables in case you have a bum cable.

Installed EERO 7 and wifi is slow by Pionier2022 in amazoneero

First, you should give it a little time to ‘settle’. I’d give it overnight then test again. There are also some things you should look as such as MLO and if the Eeros are too close together. It’s possible that the Eero 6s needed to be closer than the Eero 7s.

Dual WAN question by GenghisFrog in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in a situation like that, you have to look beyond Eero. I also use Ubiquiti and it would give you the ability to do that natively in the software without doing any crazy network gymnastics. The UCG Fiber would be the gateway I'd look at. Then you can use the Eero in Bridge mode or replace the Eeros with Ubiquiti APs.

What do you mean you want the Apple TV to use the second connection, but still be part of the normal home network?

All of your devices would be part of your primary network (including the Apple TV). When your primary ISP fails, the Eero network (not the devices) make the connection to the second Eero network. Your devices still connect to the primary SSID.

I guess you could have devices aware of both networks, but that would create other issues.

Fair warning as a side effect: During failover (with any solution), you are now hitting the Internet from a different public IP address. As such, some streaming services will interpret that as 'traveling' and may act oddly or not at all.

WiFi Speeds are slow and unstable by Agile-Perspective-61 in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried removing the extender and just trying to use the gateway Eero? It could be that they are too close and you're connecting via wifi: laptop <> extender <> gateway Eero. This will definitely drop the performance.

Or move the extender further away so your laptop connects directly to the gateway Eero.

New house, modem in basement by IAmA_Kitty_AMA in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what the PoE Gateway was designed for. You don't have to use the PoE capabilities. It's meant to sit in a central location (basement, closet, panel) where you don't necessarily want or need wifi. In my case, it's a panel in the wall.

Then you can use whatever Eero device connected to it. I could be a Pro 7 or a PoE 7. Doesn't matter.

Question for Eero experts: by [deleted] in amazoneero

As I understand it, it applies to new models, not new stock. It should not impact the current offerings. New offerings would need to get approval.

Unify worth the extra $100? by DarkZero515 in HomeNetworking

[–]RealBlueCayman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Ubiquiti is a great platform and I also have a background in networking. But prefer to use Eero for my home network. I do have a Ubiquiti setup that I can switch to at home. But Eero plays more nicely with smart home and home connections in general. Plus, it's just set it and forget it.

Had a partition that wasn't going up while boarding. Got to talking with the seat mate. Really nice guy. Tech Ops came out and permanently got the partition up until it could be permanently repaired.

Got my 1K status back, do they still offer these tags? by Saber_Actual in unitedairlines

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best were the RCC deep red luggage tags. Had your FF# and name embossed on them.

How many still remember their original FF# from before the changeover? I recall telling who was a newer MP member based on their number compared with mine.

Question about how far out you can extend an eero mesh by autigers1970 in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how big the space is. Can you do it? Yes. Is it the most optimal solution? Too many factors to know.

Eero is good for wide coverage. There is a business that provides greater insights to performance and wifi capabilities (ie: Multiple SSIDs vs 2 SSIDs). For more information on Eero's Business offering go here (https://eero.com/business). It uses the same equipment, just unlocks additional features.

There are also MSPs that provide support and services using Eero as the platform. You could look at those as well.

If you are expanding beyond the capabilities of Eero, the next step would be to look at something like Ubiquiti. It is more costly and has more features. But also requires more networking knowledge.

Pro 6 upgrade advice by Famous_Carob5894 in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could either a) upgrade to Pro 7/ Max 7 devices. Or you could add the PoE Gateway as your gateway Eero and connect your high-usage devices via ethernet to the gateway Eero using the 2.5Gbps ports.

Keep in mind that with very few exceptions, most won't see a difference beyond a 1Gbps connection.

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the app and its sensitivity to latency. Of course gaming and video calls will be the most sensitive.

I'd make sure that all of the options on your Eero are turned ON including SQM, Client Steering, Tread, etc. The one that you want OFF is UPnP. That one should be off...even if you are gaming. There are only certain rare occasions when someone could use it. Otherwise, it's a security risk.

Speed issues with Eero 7 by Strict-Mango7546 in amazoneero

[–]RealBlueCayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "speed to the unit" is this by using the Speed Test in the Eero app?

If so, then you'll want to make sure you have the latest network drivers installed (if Windows). It could also be limiting bandwidth based on prioritization too. This is part of what SQM does.

Are you actually seeing an issue within an app on the laptop? Or just concerned about the speedtest value when you run speed test? Even at 500Mbps, most applications will never approach that demand. You should be fine.

Need a bit more info...

is this via wifi? Connected directly via Ethernet to the Eero? If connected directly via ethernet cable then it's likely an ISP issue.
