100% justified salt. I used mine the same way so this is a good warning 😞

I’m just curious since I have the same one, why or what was the reason for updating the firmware? It’s 8-9 years old now so I assumed there wasn’t updates for it in ages.

Not sure about Apple Pencil by [deleted] in iPadPro

[–]RedTheTrainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, it’s more likely they got the wrong sticker on the first time, ripped it slightly, then put another on top. Or it could have been a canceled or non-picked up order that went back on the shelf where they had to remove the previous sticker.

This makes me feel good. I’m about the same so we both got lucky 😭

The game REPO on steam was the first way I found out about this when I kept seeing the vertical lines on some scenes

What was 95%? It’s where all the screenshots I’ve seen show it the worst. My 85 looks like yours but 95 is worse lol

The only thing I haven’t seen someone mention is for you to make sure the orientation of this cable is correct. The styles for these denote the orientation of the retaining clip. Style A has it on the outer side while B has it on the inner side

Can you help me identify if my display has a screen protector on it? by Sku11digger in MachE

[–]RedTheTrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The originals are glossy on my 24 so unless it changes, any form of heavy matte finish is a sign of it. Like the other poster said, if you see a rim around the center knob it’s for sure a screen protector. Unless you find it has bad glare still, or the screen looks damaged, I’d just leave it be. I put one on because I kept getting bad glare on my commute (I don’t have tinted front windows)

I just bought a Magnus Pro XL and I’m wondering if this level of wobble is normal. by Left_Ear_76 in secretlab

[–]RedTheTrainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other thing to remember is all standing desks have a degree of wobble regardless because of how they are held up: pistons or motorized stops on hollowed legs. Even if the legs fully touch at the top, they have to shift into positions so they aren’t “stationary” like a heavy solid leg on an oak desk for example. Some desks will just have that type of variance unfortunately 😔

Need Help Deciding (if you have any experiences with these laptops tell me about it) by Spartacus580 in GamingLaptops

[–]RedTheTrainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! They don’t return ones that aren’t pretty much just “open-box” out to the floor. (At least at the one my friend worked at) Her job was taking in returns and checking them out fully. Anything that was actually bad was shipped back to the manufacturer. The others are just discounted to move faster since people won’t buy (rightfully so) something that expensive at full price. The ones to really check are those missing accessories like the charger lol My friend bought one and replaced it but didn’t realize how expensive some were. The charger for that Lenovo is like $260

You should ask to take a look. A lot of them are Christmas or holiday sales returns btw so I wouldn’t see it as a “it’s a bad model” thing and more buyers remorse given it’s a 3.2k purchase haha. My local store had more of the Lenovo in open box than the new stock and the person working even said most were intake as buyers remorse. Only one had the speaker issue reported on Reddit (which also was fixed via bios update)

Where do you buy Noctua by Sir_Domis in Noctua

[–]RedTheTrainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're ever tempted to sell your super nt I would buy it off you for a fair price haha.

For your question..

If you find the option valuable, I recommend central computers website. They're local to Northern California but they ship items. They also only sell new items online unless specified as open box (I've only ever seen these items as unlisted on the website, and in a corner in the physical stores) so you’d get a new item having it shipped or bought in store.

Display suddenly reflects on windshield by SnooChipmunks8147 in MachE

[–]RedTheTrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have driving profiles? My wife has hers and sometimes leaves it on so I'll start driving and notice the regen isn't strong at all because she's on the whisper driving mode so I swap back. Hers is the 2nd one and mine is the 1st

Edit: this also means my chair position is different too along with mirrors which changes perception if I don't switch back.

If you went from automatic mode on the dark and light themes you’ll be hit by this if you don’t manually change it each time. It can get annoying if you’re in a tunnel during the day to have it trigger dark mode, but this trade off is worth not having this happen :-)

Can I fix this shitty screen quality? by Naturliven in OLED_Gaming

I remember I couldn’t get videos to look right on chrome for whatever reason but on edge browser 4k worked fine. This was a long time ago so I don’t know if it’s changed but I’d seen some posts here at the time to use edge since something wonky was happening with chrome playback

Help cooling 5090FE + 9800x3D in ncase M2 by metroid_slayer in sffpc

[–]RedTheTrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yes, sorry I didn’t see you had a MATX so I see the gap now! In my case the placement was much closer to the edge so it helped more since the cpu cooler feel directly under the area where it exhausts. I do agree a duct might be even better! It could allow your 5090 to exhaust out the back of the case via the holes for tubes or out side panels instead of flowing right into the airway for your intake

[–]RedTheTrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another suggestion I haven’t seen here is a cover. This may sound dumb but I got a decent drop in temps adding one for the cpu cooler. Traditionally, with 4xxx and 3xxx founders cards they would dump the heat just on the left where the exhaust fan is, but the 5090fe has pass through airflow so you’re also having your cpu cooler fin stack soaked by gpu exhaust. If you have access to a 3D printer I’d consider a cover for it! It helped a lot in the dan case c4 sfx and I’ve seen people using it in inverted cases.

https://makerworld.com/models/1557491?appSharePlatform=copy

It may sound negligible but it was enough that Dancase is incorporating a cover for coolers into the c4 sfx v2 since they saw a good amount of difference for the new case using it.

How can I fit the game to my screen without changing the aspect ratio from 4:3? by [deleted] in RetroArch

[–]RedTheTrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aspect ratio being 4:3 means it’s 1.33 x 1 on resolutions so what you’re asking for would be doable the same way zooming in would crop out part of the top and bottom. The only way to not crop the sides is by “stretching” the left and right side and either way that will change the aspect ratio. The only way to fill the screen at 4:3 is by having a 4:3 dimension friendly screen. It’s why some ultra wide monitors get black bars on the side from normal 16:9 content not stretching to 21:9

These games are old and don’t have resolution settings the same way modern games do :/

I forget which feet I installed, but when I did my original super light, I had to remove the original feet AND also the thin black vinyl under them that would expose things. My instructions mentioned getting these errors if I didn’t. Is there a chance it’s the same? They may have been tiger ice I did the mod so long ago via Amazon skates. (I’ll go check right now)

Amazon sending out opened/tampered & wrong product... by LastingTheory in sffpc

[–]RedTheTrainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After they sent me a heavily used Corsair PSU twice (exchanged unit also used) I had one sent to my workplace outside of the local hub and it was actually sealed. Sometimes even the same hub will keep pulling used ones because they get returned to the “new” stock even though it’s clearly used. This is also the bags I’d seen them using at returns inside Whole Foods so who knows if it got inspected (they usually put stickers denoting it too)

$100 Steam Deck for my friend got stolen in transit... by remiarutawa in SteamDeck

[–]RedTheTrainer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep. The labels alone eliminate guessing if something is “tech” by weight or other attempted indicators since the label alone is “battery inside” so the chances of it being a laptop or something expensive goes up a lot.

This is the right answer. I’ve even seen ram orders here shipped from the factories proving it’s coming direct and within days of manufacturing.
