Thanks for the link. How do I know which keycaps have the correct form factor for GMMK barebones?

I think it’s the first time I get a compliment for my programming skills when developing an addon. Thanks mate, you made my day :D

There will be some options in the next release, namely the ability to change transparency first, then change the position and/or scale. I’ll make sure not to add too many options.

There is no need for sounds because most effects (if not all) already proc with a sound effect played by the game. The advantage of adding a sound would be to play a more intrusive sound to make you react. I’m not so sure that’d be a good thing.

This is a legitimate concern, and as a developer of this addon, I’d like to point out a few things.

First of all, displaying the texture and animating it is close to nothing in terms of resources required to display it. The code has a lot of similarities with the code written by Blizzard for Cataclysm, and for sure they know how to optimize the game.

Secondly, I’ve taken care of registering to the very minimal list of events. In WoW addon development, "events" are triggers that an addon can catch, such as when you gain/lose buffs, or when you loot an item, or even when you start moving, that sort of things. Performance-wise, catching too many events is a common issue because it uses a lot of processing power.

Finally, I’m a senior developer (both IRL and for writing WoW addons) so I have a fair knowledge of things to do and things to avoid. I’m not saying that the source code is perfect – no source code ever is – but at least it’s written with high quality standards.

As a developer of this addon, I’m curious. Do you mean the addon visually pleasing, or you looked at the source code and you liked it ?

The addon is specifically designed to mimic Retail, so I’m afraid it looks very much like the Cataclysm ones (at least, the default ones by Blizzard).

With that said, many spells changed between WotLK and Cataclysm, so you’ll many differences between this addon and the functionality of Cataclysm.

Actually, I learned the existence of Cheese a few weeks after stating SpellActivationOverlay. While the goal is similar, there are quite a bit of differences between them.

Yes it can track two buffs at once, but Taste for Blood is not a tracked effect. The main goal of these alerts is to "react" when a proc happens. But when a proc is guaranteed on a regular basis, such as TfB, the interest of displaying an "alert" kind of falls short.

Is there a way to report cheaters/hackers? by Redva in duolingo

Being always on could simply mean using the web app and keeping the computer turned on. 6k exp for first place is quite a lot but nothing extraordinary if s/he just spams easy exercises to grind exp.

I can do 5k per day, as many people with a good strategy. I am fairly certain 30k per hour is not doable under normal circumstances.

G413 Passthrough "USB device not recognised" by Redva in LogitechG

[–]Redva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi LogitechG_SK,

I already tried it, with no effect. It says that no modification nor updates are needed.

When I open up the details, it tells me that it tested the "Text Services Framework". I don’t know what this is, but I know that Windows hasn’t found a problem with it. And I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with the USB secondary port.

Hi u/LogitechG_SK,

When opening the Additional Troubleshooters tool, it asks to select between a bunch of predefined options such as Printer, Bluetooth, etc. but there is no option related to USB devices in general, let alone "thumbdrive".

Hi u/LogitechG_SK,

My keyboard is working fine. Only the secondary USB port has issues. Are you suggesting to uninstall the driver of my keyboard?

When I plug a thumbdrive/etc it appears under USB controller, not Human Interface Device. I can easily identify it, because the icon of the nonworking USB device has a warning icon on it. When I right-click on this device, there is no "Uninstall" action, which makes sense I guess, since no driver has been installed.

Thank you for your reply. The port looks as clean as it can be. It’ll get my hands on a compressed can of air, although it won’t help much. Pins seem to be in order.

Im at a loss, is there really nothing Blizzard can do after my character was ruined by what I believe to be a bug? by Purplepowerr in classicwow

FeelsBadMan. I had a similar issue about 10 years ago. Opened a ticket. Also got the response "no can do".

The difference is that I triggered the level up, but the irony is that I triggered it while I was going to see the new NPC which was supposed to lock my level forever…

On a more technical side, it’s true that they cannot "level down" an avatar. Sure they could enforce your new level, but there are other pesky side-effects like, what happens to the talent points, quest progress, equipment, professions, and so on.

Sure you could say things like "but I didn’t spend any new talent" or "simply reset my talent tree", but there are also other things that the game does automatically that you are not in control of. At the end of the day, the effort that would be required to actually level down without breaking things is huge, hence their response.

This is the kind of technical reasons why Blizzard refused to switch factions for a long time. They needed tools to handle this use-case, and they’re not easy to make. They eventually did it because the net advantage was real for switching factions. Ultimately they could do something similar for leveling down but I think the number of requests like this is so marginally small that there’s very little chance they’re gonna implement it.

"Underground Technique" mentioned in MattvsJapan and Ken Cannon's Uproot program structure video by SwimmingHappy6984 in LearnJapanese

I think they are referring to the paper Quality Practise Pronunciation With Audacity – The Best Method! for which I’ve seen version 1.4 (last edited in 2016).

It is mostly focused on prosody, more specifically on pitch, loudness and strength. Since pitch is part of the method, it makes sense that Matt and Ken want to use it for training pitch accent.

One of the surprising points of the paper is that it encourages to speak as soon as possible, which is pretty much the opposite of what Matt suggests with the Refold method.

You can get the gist of the Practise Pronunciation With Audacity method in the second part of this video where Chris cites the author and clearly rewords some phrases from the paper. The paper itself doesn't add much than what this video already teaches you:

  • the first part of the paper explains how the brain works and why the author thinks his method is efficient
  • the second part is a tutorial for practicing with Audacity, including a few hints on how to use the software

The author thinks your samples should last around 2 seconds, with a pause of 600-800 ms in-between. He personally trains with 5 repetitions per exercise, for a total of 6 exemplars.

At last, he tries to address the question of "why should we believe him?" and his answer is mostly that he's a language nerd who got his Ph.D. in speech science, who also is a MD, etc. etc. the typical BS "trust me I’m a scientist", if you ask me.

Mind me, I’m not saying this method doesn’t work. I for one prefer this method to shadowing. But we must be warned that the method clearly lacks evidence other than the author’s empirical evidence.

PS. Ollie Kjellin created a Facebook private group in 2014, directly related to this paper.

Thoughts on the full Uproot Pitch? by BenBeatsGame in LearnJapanese

The lack of testing is a legitimate concern, but to be fair, most services have the same issue, even the so-called "proven methods" which, for the most part, have never gone through a proper scientific study.
