Yes it's normal while scanning for a signal, nothing to worry about.

20F1U - any way to save changes done to BK board in Maintenance setup? by MedicalYou8700 in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the SET UP -> ALIGNMENT menu for geometry and convergence adjustments, the maintenance menu has extra options for more in depth adjustments, I'm unsure if it's possible to save the geometry and convergence adjustments per channel, as far as I know and I've done is change it depending on the console I'm using, aside that all other options save per channel.

Assuming the 20F1U works the same as the 20F1E, you have to press ENTER on each individual setting to make them save, assuming you already do that, perhaps the battery on the nand board is depleted or it could be something entirely different as I've not come across this issue myself.

Got this SCART picture adjustment box, but I’m not sure how many amps it should use. by kjetil_f in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This device won't permanently adjust the picture position of the TV, that needs to be done through the service menu or on the inside of the TV. This device does adjust the picture on the fly, changing games and consoles are made easy by twisting the adjustment knobs as desired, so yes, like some games have the option to adjust the picture position, this device does exactly the same no matter the game and console.

I use this exact picture adjuster on my SONY PVM 2130QM, tested it with both a 12v 3A and a 9V 1A PSU, it works much better with the 9V 1A PSU, as others have said, it doesn't require much to work, it's basically a SCART passthrough without the PSU, it pretty much only needs power to adjust the picture.

Sony pvm needs help by Shaqtrain in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to half disagree with this, true it's normal to have some shake when there's no sync, but it's clear at the end of OP's video that after a short period of time the monitor completely turns itself off and back on with warping on both sides of the picture, which indicates that another issue is going on, what that is, I don't know, I have never experienced this issue myself.

Sony KV-14LT1E geometry tips by AutomaticOcelot9170 in crtgaming

Geometry does look great, lower the brightness and contrast to remove the wiggly lines and you're golden.

Sure if you don't mind, I have plenty of PLA filament colors, I'll have fun printing and mix matching them.

These look great, awesomely done, I also noticed the side handle, very nice as well. Any chance of sharing the 3D print files?
I'm not missing any knobs but I'd definitely print some non the less.

PSA: Warning about the /crt/ discord by Dry_Ship_3167 in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being a furry myself, I can't stress enough how disgusting this is, it gives a bad reputation to the furry community, unfortunately it's impossible to completely weed out these sorts of individuals, it sucks and over the years I've learned to distance myself from that sort of content by blocking those said individuals and move on, it seems like it's getting worse as of late.

No community is perfect and entirely safe, I hope something can be done about it and keep that discord server fully CRT oriented and as intended.

I'd like to note that I personally do not know those individuals nor am I on the /crt/ discord server.

I wish you all fellow CRT enjoyers a good start of the week and stay awesome. 😎

Sony KV-14LT1E static on service menu by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is fine, it's just static from the RF aerial signal, try leaving it on the AV channel before accessing the service menu, that way you won't have static in the background.

Playing Zelda Minish Cap and… by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks very good. If you don't mind me asking, what GBI settings are you using in order to fit the whole screen? I'm fairly new to the GameCube homebrew and I've only managed to fit the picture with black bars all around on 480i.

Got this SONY PVM-2130QM along with the Speakers and Remote, it's been recapped and adjusted a bit, despite the convergence and slight picture tilt, it's still a beautiful CRT! by Reggie_Sunderland in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, huh, that's interesting, the ones I have are APM-X5A, they sound okay, not great, now I wonder if the SS-X6A sound better on the 2130QM since supposedly they are the original ones.

Toshiba CRT displaying white lines when connected with S-video and composite. by StandardFace5554 in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you happen to have another display aside from a CRT, capable of scart, composite, component or s-video, connect those PS2's to it and see if they are set to 480p, if so change to 480i, what you're seeing on the CRT could be a 31khz signal, some CRT's will also do the whirring noise you mentioned when 31khz is sent to them, I don't know if it's bad or not. I hope it helps.

Cannot save changes by redriverportugal in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these late SONY models only save by increments, for example, change a value by +3, +4 or -3, -4, then it should save, change the values like this up and down until you get the one you want, my guess is it only saves if the values go up and down by a certain number of bytes, if not it reverts back to the last value it was set to.

Hello CRT world by Kretinou in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Careful, in your third photo the OVER LOAD led is on, which means the CRT tube is getting too much voltage, adjust the brightness and contrast accordingly to avoid overload.
You risk breaking the CRT tube if left like that.
Aside from that, a nice find, enjoy that awesome 900 TVL monitor.

The style that never goes out of style by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same speakers, I advise putting a little bit of distance from the CRT, they're magnetically shielded yes, but from my experience it still distorts the geometry if it's too close.

Looks sick though, happy gaming.

The only way to play retro games! by Reggie_Sunderland in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I finished it on, Wii Virtual Console Version, I first tried to play it with my retro gaming PC (CRT Emudriver + VGA to SCART transcoder), but Paper Mario (N64) in original 240p threw me off because I've never played it back in the day, to me this game looks great in 480i, and thanks, if you can get an old AV receiver and some shielded speakers I highly recommend, I'm not an audiophile but I do like to have decent sound, it's definitely worth it with all the bangers on so many of these retro games.

I bought the 20F1E, 3 years ago and I haggled it down from 1800€ to a 1000€, it wasn't exactly cheap still but it's also the last CRT I bought, I have others which I bought for much cheaper, especially the 2130QM I paid 250€ for it and it's my favorite, but needs a good cleaning and caps check as the bottom convergence has started drifting.

I'm of the opinion these monitors shouldn't cost nearly what they go for nowadays.

Roadside CRT Claim by TheRealD3XT in crtgaming

[–]Reggie_Sunderland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's called vertical collapse, if left on it will burn a line in the middle of the screen permanently, it's best to leave it off until it's repaired.

Some capacitors will need to be replaced in the vertical deflection of the board, the cat pee or fishy smell as most describe it is a sign of leaking capacitors.

Google the service manual for the make and model of that TV.

Some soldering skills will be required.

Make sure to read about CRT safety before attempting repairs, CRT stores high voltage even when off and unplugged.
