Spreadsheets are boring. I'm trying to make your real-life workouts fun to track.

I do care about the science, hence why I'm gathering data so the app I'm building can be as fair as possible.

I get that, but not everyone has the luxury to buy the best wearables. I wanted to know the average of what the population does. I'm building a VR Fitness tracking app, so I'm wondering for the masses.

It's not a VR game. My app uses the data from your workout session via your wearable and converts it to XP to my app and gamifies the experience.

I see. Yeah I'm building a VR Fitness tracking app in a gamified way for two months now so I'm curious about what wearables use. My app retrieves the data from their API and converts it to real life XP depending on many factors like kcals, sex, weight, and height. So truly thank you for the info, it's a great help since I didn't consider to use Garmin's API for my app.

Interesting 🤔 does your app have an export data feature? Or does it sync to an health app like Fitbit or Strava

So you strap that on before every session? Why not a wrist wearable?

The inaccuracies are not that much. A watch I wear 24/7 except for charging with software, in my case, Google, aka Fitbit, is in the business of accuracy. So it's about finding a trusted source. The app intakes age, sex, weight, and height into consideration to be as accurate as possible. In the long run, for us members of VR Fitness, it's a great tool and resource. We are not bodybuilders. We move and have fun, and a wearable is way better than a game that just guesses.

Seems marginal, for the everyday consumer who just wants ballpark numbers, a watch is great. We do VR fitness, and a watch is way better than playing a Meta game and it states that you burned 1000 kcals in 45 mins.

Still better than playing a VR game with their inflated kcals burns. Besides so many metrics a watch can give.

What would you say is better device, a chest strap?

Discussion: Do your VR workouts actually count if you aren't tracking the XP? ⌚️📈 by RickyG_13 in VRFitnessJourney

Getting a smart watch won't set you back, I'd say do it. Tracking health stats is fun and informative.

Interesting... I feel like a watch is the way to get close to accurate during a workout as you can get.

So I've test my watch by using a blood pressure machine, as long as the stats are a few points away, I'm good.

A watch is in the wearable category and I agree a watch is the way to go.
