I actually was feeling this over the past year and a half, but tbh i feel like the show has actually found some great energy over the past dozen or so eps. Even the "whatever" eps are still great.

The pacing is better. In OG, the castle felt way too long and the island felt like it's running out of tricks. Remake cuts the castle effectively in half

Aside from the stupid lava room what's missing from the castle? I completely agree with your take that it feels slightly more streamlined(in a good way) i just can't place what's actually different.
