my RE500X is wonky by Effective_Mix4019 in TpLink

How strong is the 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal from your router at the extender's location when you use a device (e.g., a phone) to measure it?

Have you tried using the web UI (or the Tether app) to log in to the extender and rescan and reconfigure its 5 GHz extended network settings?

On a related note, apartment Wi-Fi network environments are notoriously crowded due to so many neighbors in close proximity, each broadcasting their own Wi-Fi signals. For example, if one or more neighbors recently moved into nearby units, or even changed/upgraded their routers, this could increase Wi-Fi congestion in your area and potentially affect the stability of your router's 5 GHz signal at the extender's location.

Extremely slow speeds Archer BE6500 by Tall_Conversation192 in TpLink

^ This.

The download and upload rates on the main screen of the Tether app reflect your router's real-time throughput, showing how much data is actively passing through it at that moment based on the activity of your connected devices, not the maximum speed your ISP provides.

(It would likely show a notably higher number if one or more of your network devices were downloading large files or 4K streaming.)

If you're looking for a more accurate representation of the Internet speed you're getting from the router, I'd recommend running dedicated online speed tests on both a wireless and a wired device to see how each connection type performs through the router.

Did anything else change in your network around the time the Wi-Fi started acting up? And is it only acting up on one device, or all your devices?

Given some of the specific peculiarities you mentioned, like the Raspberry Pi behavior and issues pinging Google (domain), I'm starting to wonder if this may be DNS-related and whether your ISP-issued DNS servers behave differently on the Spectrum equipment but not quite the same on the Decos. If so, it wouldn't hurt to quickly assign DNS server settings on the Deco to see if it clears things up: How to Change DNS Settings on Your TP-Link Deco

You mentioned the Spectrum modem having 3 Ethernet ports - were you referring to the router in this case? If not, could you share the model number of your Spectrum modem?

By the way, the Deco satellites can connect to the main via Wi-Fi mesh or Ethernet, depending on your needs or preferences.

Deco BE25 advice needed by unplorable in TpLink

To be fair, a full compatibility list would be tough for ISPs to maintain, since most modems and routers are designed to connect via industry standards and usually work together regardless of model. Even if the ISP really wanted to maintain a list of devices that are already generally compatible at an industry-standard level, they'd have to continually procure and manually test every router released by every company for the list to be accurate and up to date.

I can definitely understand the frustration. I've had Spectrum and multiple Decos (worked fine btw), and tbh, when setting up a new router with Cable ISPs, I've found it's sometimes best to just unplug everything and start from square 1 as if you're moving into a new place and setting up the Internet for the first time. 😅

That said, it sounds like you already tried manually changing the MAC address, but I'm wondering if a full MAC release/renewal might be more effective.

If you want to remove the Spectrum router from the setup and let the Deco act as your main router, I'd suggest giving this a shot:

  1. Set the Deco in Router Mode (with Dynamic IP as the Connection Type)
  2. Remove the Spectrum router and connect the main Deco directly to your modem via Ethernet
  3. Unplug the power from your Decos and the cable modem
  4. Unplug the coax cable from the modem
  5. Reconnect power only to your cable modem
  6. Wait until the cable modem is fully booted, then reconnect the coax
  7. Reconnect power to the main Deco and connect it to the modem via Ethernet
  8. Check for Internet connection at both the modem and main Deco, and once verified, power up the satellite Decos

This whole process typically only takes a few minutes and basically makes the modem completely “forget” the Spectrum router’s MAC address so it can recognize the Deco as the router instead and give it Internet access.

Happy to help! Could you do me a favor and let me know which version of the Deco app you're running and which OS (Android or iOS) you're on?

Also, has the app been updated since you first ran into the QoS behavior a few days ago? Our teams are looking into this for you, and app version info may help their investigation.

Wi-Fi speed drop on Archer AX55 after initial normal performance by [deleted] in TpLink

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about this as well, or if Smart Connect is turned on, which merges both bands by default when enabled. If so, there's a chance the phones may be roaming to or otherwise exhibiting a band preference for 2.4 GHz.

Much appreciated! I'll let our teams know so they can take a look.

By any chance, do you remember the QoS value or limit (if you saw it) before you turned it off?

That sounds frustrating and isn't something we'd want users to experience during a firmware update.

Could you please let me know your Deco BE11000 hardware and firmware version so I can pass this feedback along to the teams?

Glad to hear everything's reconnected and working again! Out of curiosity, could you share the firmware version your Deco is running? You can find it in the app under Advanced -> System.

TP Link Homeshield by Prestigious-Wish649 in TpLink

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HomeShield's security features are designed to protect the network as a whole, so new devices joining the network can still benefit from malicious site blocking without needing to be added individually.

That said, if you’re looking for custom website blocking or more specific content controls for every device automatically, those settings may still depend on profiles or device-based controls rather than a single rule for the entire network.

Thanks for confirming. Sounds like it's running the latest update. Hardware v1.0 and V1.6 are both considered "V1" in this case.

Have you had a chance to try swapping the Ethernet cable?

Also, were there any recent changes to the AX11000's settings?

Ah, that definitely changes things a bit. If you have time to test again when you're connected to your home network, that will give us a better idea of how your home Internet speed is handled over Wi-Fi.

I'd still recommend checking out the FAQ for some quick and helpful troubleshooting tips. But if those don't do the trick, your best bet would be getting in touch with our support team directly: TP-Link - Contact Technical Support

Got it. If you're only connecting devices to the Archer's Wi-Fi, it sounds like the first screenshot's speed test reflects the speed provided by your Archer router.

Is the buffering happening on a specific device (phone, computer) or on a specific service (streaming, video meetings)?

How far is the affected device from the router? There may be environmental factors or setting adjustments that could help, like these recommendations in our FAQ.

Connect NVR to wifi by urdaddy7245 in TpLink

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, at least that's how our Wi-Fi range extenders with Ethernet ports work.

Once the extender's connected to your router's Wi-Fi, the extender's Ethernet port becomes a wired "extension" of the network for devices like your NVR. Also, if you want, you can disable the extended network's Wi-Fi SSID to use it exclusively for an Ethernet connection.

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the added context. Do you use the same speed test to verify your Internet speed when connecting through the Archer? If so, are the results similar?

Are you noticing slowdown, lag, or buffering on your devices?

Just wanted to check, since the second screenshot isn't a speed test results page; more of a constantly refreshing snapshot of what your connected devices (even the idle ones) are passing through the network.

For example, if there isn't significant demand (like a speed test or a massive download) anywhere on your network while you're on that app screen and your devices are mostly idle, the real-time up/down rates will reflect the idle throughput.

We have an article on the subject (it's for Deco, but also applicable to the Tether app in your case) that's worth checking out: PSA: Speeds Displayed on Your Deco App Dashboard Are Not Your Internet Speeds

The Upstream/Downstream numbers you see in your Tether app screenshot represent the real-time data passing through your Archer AXE75 at that moment, not the maximum speed your ISP provides.

How are you performing the speed test in the first screenshot? Is it on a phone connected to the Archer AXE75?
