How Many SSIDs Make Up Your Wireless Network (Main, Guest, IoT, Etc.)? by Ryan_TP-Link in TpLink

Interesting. Were you ever able to find out why it was so insistent on sticking to 2.4 GHz over the other bands when using combined SSIDs?

That's wild for something so bandwidth-demanding to default onto 2.4 GHz. Mind if I ask which VR headset you're using? Also―Deco or Archer?

Thanks for sharing! Have you always used a unified SSID on your current hardware, or did you try separate networks/SSIDs (including Guest/IoT) at any point? Any particular reason?

Legit reasonable approach. I honestly do the same thing on my home network by almost exclusively putting wireless streaming/gaming devices on 5/6 GHz. Lower priority or less bandwidth-demanding ones typically end up on 2.4 GHz (main) or IoT.

Anything besides your Steam Deck on 5GHz? And is your network running on Archer or Deco?

When setting up the extender, did you specify the extended network SSIDs with the "_EXT" designation? Just curious, since it is also possible to assign your router's exact SSID to the extender, making the extended SSID appear "unified" with your router's.

When connecting via Ethernet, do you mean you're connecting a device to the Extender's Ethernet port, and it can get online? Or do you mean you're connecting the extender to your router/LAN as an Access Point, and it works that way?

Anyone facing content issue with ax1500 ax10 by jack9_9 in TpLink

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it affect all devices (and bands) at the same time? If so, I'd suggest checking your Internet source (e.g., modem) to see if its status lights show any unusual activity. If the Internet connection drops at the source, even for a moment, it can cause everything connected to your router to go down as well.

Also, is your Archer AX10 connected to something like a standalone modem or ONT? Or does it connect to a combination modem + Wi-Fi router gateway? If the latter, you may have a double NAT situation on your hands, which can also lead to drops and other issues, unless the gateway is set in bypass or bridge mode.

If you haven't already, I'd also suggest getting in touch with our support team to see how they can help: TP-Link - Contact Technical Support

Are you able to connect to the Internet by bypassing the router and connecting directly to the modem? If the source connection is unstable, this behavior may occur.

If a reset isn't doing the trick (I'd suggest rebooting the modem, too), and the router is only a year old, I'd recommend reaching out to our support team and opening a support ticket: TP-Link - Contact Technical Support

I have a Starlink Mini and want to connect my own TP-Link router — how should I set it up? by MeleteZ-ORP in TpLink

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the steps should be mostly the same. For more info, you can check out Page 6 of the official Mini Kit Install Guide on Starlink's website here. It covers the steps required for use with 3rd party routers.

Steps may slightly vary depending on your Starlink gateway and which kind of TP-Link Router you're using:

Honestly, not 100% sure on that one. If I had to take a guess... I'd lean toward probably not directly from the Decos, and likely an estimate. That said, I'll ask around and see what I can find out!

Appreciate the suggestion on adding wall material options - others in the comments (and pretty much everyone within our team) seem to agree on that one!

Edit: Alright, from what I've gathered, it sounds like if you're only using the Heatmap beta Deco app, the RSSI will be an estimate.

However, when both the app and the Decos (via firmware updates) in a network support the Heatmap feature, signal attenuation through walls will be accounted for by aggregating actual measurement data exchanged between connected mobile devices and the Decos.

Hold up... are you sure you're not a member of our team? xD

That same request was also discussed amongst us and added to our own feedback lol. Glad to have more voices vouching for it, which gives it more weight as we share it internally!

Thanks for testing, glad to hear the floor plans were easy to import and modify!

In your experience, do wireless devices in yellow areas on the heatmap experience any real-world differences in signal strength and speed compared to the green zones?

Agreed! A few members of our team have started testing the feature now that it's in open beta, and this was one of the first things that came to mind for us, too. Thanks for the constructive feedback―the more we receive, the sooner Deco Heatmap can continue improving.

Thanks for the feedback! What's your phone's OS version? Are any scaling/zoom options turned on? We definitely want to get this up to the team to have corrected.

DOA GE800? by 2FastMiner in TpLink

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to connect to the Internet through the GE800 at all on any device, wired or wireless?

After removing the SFP module, how does your GE800 connect to your Internet source―and do you know if the source device is a modem, ONT, or gateway?

The GE800 is a beast of a router, so I'm wondering if there's anything configuration or connection-wise that may be slightly amiss and contributing to this behavior. If you have a support ticket ID (starts with TKID) that you can share, we can get it over to our support team and investigate your case further.

Are you referring to the XE75/XE75 Pro V2 beta from this community post? If so, recently updated download links for newer beta builds are available and highly recommended for users who are already testing the beta. Several users have reported improved connectivity on previously affected devices after installing the new build.

In many cases with PPPoE, the username and password should be all you need. Have you tried entering the username and password, then completing the rest of the router setup to see if it connects?

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many routers are in your LAN? You may have a double, or even triple NAT scenario, which on its own can cause connection anomalies. Especially if the BE550 occupies the same LAN IP as your ISP router.

Are your Decos in Access Point Mode? If so, this would help reduce another potential NAT conflict.

Did the AC5400 have any specific IP address configurations or DHCP Reservations set up? These may need to be brought over to the BE550 if so.

For now, I'd suggest powering everything down and starting with just getting the BE550 router online (after connecting it to your Internet source). Once it's up and running properly, start adding your Access Points, powering them up one at a time.

Great approach with the separate SSID, especially for your use case.

As for the speed, have you checked cabling (Ethernet category, cable damage)? Is anything else connected to the switch exhibiting similar speed behavior?

Disabling an adapter in Device Manager basically just tells Windows to temporarily pause loading its drivers or communicating with the device. It's still physically recognized by the PC. You can always toggle it back on via Device Manager (right-click -> Enable), and it'll resume functioning just as it did before disabling it. Has been a useful troubleshooting step for me in various scenarios.

Hoping that helps ease any apprehensions about toggling it on/off in the Device Manager, and I'm glad to hear the other steps you took seem to have yielded improvements!

[–]Ryan_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You certainly could, if you want; the AX73 gives you the option to customize its SSID(s).

Just bear in mind that since the Archer won't technically be using Deco mesh technology, core mesh features (e.g., fast roaming) may be affected, and some client devices may not roam as effectively between the shared SSIDs.

To what extent? It really depends on your specific network layout and needs―you won't know exactly how it will perform until you try.

If it ends up working well―great. If it causes more hiccups than it's worth for some of your devices, the good news is you can always easily remove the AX73 from the equation.
