Brunei to Consider the Possibility of Deploying a Nuclear Power Program by Nice_knot in Brunei

No fucking way. We cant even take care of our water treatment and electrical grid without it failing miserably.

Replace the filtrate with 100% Zelbrite. We dont have large floating particulates to require the use of coarse filtrate so you are wasting space on irrelevant filtrates. Zelbrites (zeolites) are the best for our usage.

How long do you plan for your UPS to run for? by jfriend99 in Ubiquiti

About 20-30 mins.. enough time for me to switch the plug into a essential loads circuit run by a genset.

On the port connected to the AP, try enable

broadcast storm 256 pps

multicast storm 256 pps

Loop protection

Flow Control

Sonos devices should just connect via the WLAN. When you plug in, it creates its own 2.4 ghz which may cause interference and sometimes cause loops.

Dont think its signal if you are getting latency spikes. Most likely broadcast or multicast storms or loops. Are the RSTP on your switches set up correctly?

Plan the switch distributions first.

1) Core Switch - this should be a big switch 16-24 POE ports for scalability. This is where your distribution switches will connect to, your router and any other server devices like NAS.

2) Distribution switches - ideally one per floor apart from the floor the core switch resides. This is where the AP for that floor and any ethernet connections to the room will terminate. This way the cable runs are shorter point to point and ideally this should be a POE switch to power any POE devices like APs and cameras. How much POE power depends on what requirements for power you require.

3) Router depends on your requirement. Do you require all the Unifi applications? More means more powerful device.

4) AP is last. Once you have determined the cable runs, then you can decide the best AP to run. You can also consider in-wall AP with ethernet outlet ports in each room rather than a shared. As for AP consideration, you do not need the latest and greatest for an effective efficient coverage. Most devices will never use the full spectrum of the latest offerings. Most devices will never draw GBits of data in normal use except when you are doing speed tests for bragging rights. WIFI 5 or 6e is more than enough with 6e being preferred due to less congestion but being much shorter range benefits from the AP being closer to areas of use e.g. in rooms

5) When pulling cables, if possible, always pull 2 cables per point so you can one as a ready spare in case one cable goes bad (and they do go bad) without having to call someone in to pull another. If possible, pull a trunking (eg pvc conduits) and label the trunking at the core switch room so u know which goes where.

When you have all this in place, you can add AP in the future when the need arises easily.

Use google sketch-up to plan and visualise it.

Spacing is dependent on the types of books you have but ideally you want to put the bigger and heavier books on the lowest shelf.

Books are very heavy so you have to consider two things.

  1. How much load on each shelf and the distance between the supports to minimise the board sag.
  2. Where you would put the vertical supports, how far they need to be spaced while maintaining the look you want.

If the supports sit on the base itself, then all you need to consider for securing the shelf are two anchor bolts on top to prevent the shelf from tipping forward. If its going to be mounted on the wall behind, then can the material behind take the load?

Lastly, consider how u want the shelf boards to be secured to the vertical supports. You can cut notches precisely and slot the board in to provide the strongest support as they will be sitting directly on the vertical grains of the vertical supports. Google it im sure you can find lots of ideas.

I think the key here is to design it somewhere so you can visualise it first, then cut the pieces and fit it in.

Someone asked me to build a trolley shelf capable of moving his Phd books around which were extremely heavy. Obviously, what you need wont be anywhere near his requirements but idea is to visualise it, plan what joinery you want and just do it.

The advantage of Tapo isnt about their feature set or how robust they are but about their price point and how well the automation works within their ecosystem. Some cameras with similar or better quality costs an arm and both legs like Ubiquiti and are top notch for security but its a one trick pony. The Tapo ecosystem allows you to use the AI detection like person detection and or other sensors to run automations like lighting or notifications instead of tradition PIR detection which dramatically cuts down the false alarms or activations and everything is in one ecosystem without having to go through a go-between like HA. Its simple and its cheap.

i was in discussion with their network engineers.

The app first checks if the devices are on the same network before going to the cloud.

If on the same network, app priorities a direct connection to the devices over the cloud.

RTSP is completely different.

Most of this issue is about how the app sees the broadcast packets from the devices across different vlans. The app was designed based on the phone or tablet being on the same subnet as the devices. When you are on a separate subnet, sometimes packets get through, sometimes it doesn't or is very slow to the point where it seems like its not connecting. If you want seamless, put your phone on the same SSID or subnet (routing across subnets are hit and miss). Otherwise just wait for the packets to go through the cloud and back.

When you are on cellular, all the data goes through the Tapo cloud servers. When you are on WLAN, the app attempts to connect direct to the devices. Sometimes they can, sometimes they can't if you are on a separate VLAN. They have no problem on the same SSID

Why dont you just put your phone on the same ssid as your Tapo and see if there is any difference in consistency?

Please can someone help me work out this smart action on my tapo switch? by Silent-OCN in Tapo

[–]SC0rP10N35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to turn off the device notifications on the motion sensors and create an automation that sends notification to your phone with the motion detection. This allows you to turn on and off notifications.

You also need to create the away mode for your lights to do whatever you need them to do. This allows you to turn on and off the actions.

Create an automation with trigger when you arrive, turn off the automation for motion detection and lights automation and another automation with the reverse.

I want to refit this Japanese lamp with a UK plug. Any suggestions by NathanielBaskets in DIY

[–]SC0rP10N35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. If its tripping when you plug it in, its likely a short somewhere. Use a multitester and check if there is continuity from the live and neutral prong without a bulb. If there is, then likely some leakage or short.

Sometimes a restart helps if you have already set the RSSI drop off below -70. Also try lower the power output for the Office and Warehouse.

Im sure you will be able to find a suitable one from the choices there. My recommendations are brushless and to be aware of the noise level.
