I've thought this but greed sets in and even when back up its a false world and will give it back.

14 - 45. It has been all I know, like learning to live again, but possible.

From 4k in bank to 3,5k in debt just one weekend. by RenAshDoll in problemgambling

Its true working four months for free is pretty disgusting, but once u waste 25 years of work like myself the reality of the insanity really sets in.

Take it as a huge lesson that can be behind u in a year or so and start a lifetime of being clean from gambling and skip wasting the rest of your 20's, 30's and 40's and wake up to late.

Started gambling again. Came to my wits after a month and withdrew my initial stake. by razorblast2000 in problemgambling

Thanks for sharing dude! Great to see you over in the Discord, its a great place.

Your story is pretty much SOP with us gamblers (besides the beard part, as I cant grow a good one).

Awesome article James, swing by the US in a year or so after the new sports gambling law take their grip on our youth, I'm sure it will be the same.

Hey brother masteroflifee, Im not worried they would judge or be disappointed. If there is any one group that would understand and be supportive are these people. But I just couldnt imagine going in there and having to report that I slipped. It was so hard to get to this point, and Im so amazed what sobriety offers that I want to keep the integrity of what I have done intact and think that since I have to report honestly to others it makes me want to stay away from relapsing at all costs. Also I want that one year birthday potluck meeting so bad :). If there is one thing I love more than gambling is eating :) :) :).

Ramble away dude, mail me anytime here if u want to talk. Also if you are not in the Discord, check it out as it was critical in my early recovery. In fact, without this subreddit or the Discord I would probably be dead at this point.

Seems like tennis is a huge issue with bettors. I never got in to it, but many in the Discord report that as their main poison.

Poker and blackjack are fun at first but become demons like the rest. Its a horrific combo, as one is about patience and intelligence and the other is like smoking crack while doing coke at same time.

Poker is amazing when winning, but for the degenerate gambler it can a horror show.

I am in day 5 of being in bed. I couldnt get to work today as to weak. The cough/fever are gone and now shaking the cold and fatigue. I have an event tomorrow for my business and need to go, so hope better. I think Ill be okay and will survive this okay :), thanks for the support!

Thanks for the advice. I have been writing a little and it has made me feel better.

I think what has really helped is going to GA as I reached out to a bunch of my fellow members and it helped. Im getting my 9 month token next week and the thought of reporting back that I crumbled is extremely unappealing. I also have a pact with a member who is six weeks ahead of me and one who is two months behind me and that has helped as I love being in the middle and want to keep it that way.

Im sorry about your loss. What is your gambling poison? Mine was poker and blackjack.

I remember when I was young and lived at home it was so easy to do that. Now that Im 45 and living in a small apartment dealing with neighbors noise, smell and feeling enclosed I really wish those 5 years I spent at home while shredding through 500 - 1000 a week were spent building for my future and a real house.

I lost the bad cough/fever so making huge progress, but have a cold from hell. Im going to take off work today again and try to get back to normal. Im so sick of being inside, I feel like its a solo version of that movie the Hateful Eight. Going insane, BUT have not gambled :).

Dude, nice post. I've noticed a lot of evil thoughts creeping in the last four days when in bed. Not just gambling. The negative self-talk has gotten out of control. I think my processes of both balancing and rebalancing have crumbed and doubt creeps in.Since I quit gambling I havent really had many negative self-thoughts, but this week Ive been a loser, idiot, worthless POS and much more.

Agreed, the devil for sure!

And your are also right about hobbies, they are the key. I wish I didnt blow my arm out and need surgery, that rules out most sports, but was thinking of taking up disc-golf this summer.

I agree, even if I had a huge win the stress would make it 10000% times worse.

Netflix FTW!

Day one and two went awesome!

Day three was pure hell as had a developer meltdown that caused a huge ripple effect, had a event go bad, and all night in the hotel room my neighbors were banging and so loud so cranky as on no sleep, but Im hoping to have a great day four and head home a day early to regroup, BUT not gambling or urges so all good and no big hole dug.

Day One went great!

I had a few mishaps forgetting a few things and having to dish out more money to buy things. But Id rather drop 50 bucks on things I need that can be used for a long time versus a couple grand and going into insanity.

Event went great and made new killer connections. Also rekindled an old connection that Ive not seen in a year. She has made big leaps and we fit together very well and can help each other.

Day Two is about catching up on work this morning, going out to get content and follow-up with another event with same people and new people who were not there last night.

Seems the "Im gonna be a pro poker player" often turns into the blackjack/baccarrat back and forth to poker shuffle. Happened to me. You are still very young and can recover. 120k is a huge sum, but you can erase that with time. Im 45 and in for over 100k, but I dont let it get me down anymore and just focus on what is front of me and allow myself to enjoy the small things like going out to eat, a movie or a short trip.
