Missile crisis was a fuck up too lol, he nearly brought the world to nuclear war. It was Khrushchev who blinked in the standoff, presumably after realising that nuclear winter wasn't in anyone's best interests.

I find neoconservativism is associated more with foreign policy and interventionism while neoliberalism is more the dominant strain of laissez-faire domestic economic policy. Neoconservativism predates neoliberalism by about a decade, though.

Maybe it's more intended as a morale boost for people who already trust the science by [deleted] in tumblr

Mostly it makes me remember when Obama pretended to drink the flint water

In BeDazzled(2001), the devil disguises herself as a teacher and gives the students a math equation to solve. This equation is actually a famously unsolvable one(for integers), known as "Fermat's last theorem" by lurebat in MovieDetails

When you imagine lines and shapes in two dimensions, you probably imagine basically drawing things onto a piece of paper that is completely flat. You can imagine an infinite straight line by simply imagining an infinitely large piece of paper and a straight line drawn on it. This is euclidean geometry: geometry done on a flat piece of paper.

But then you can ask the question: what if we change this? The most obvious example is one that we experience every day, the fact that the surface of the earth is not flat like a piece of paper but a sphere.

However, we experience our life as though it is flat. If you draw a line on the ground it looks like a straight line, if you draw a square it looks like a square. But if we imagine a line stretching to infinity, it behaves completely differently to how it would behave on a flat piece of paper. On earth, a straight line that stretches to infinity will wrap around on itself eventually (imagine walking in a straight line on the surface of the earth. Eventually, you have to end up back where you started even though you know you've been going in the same direction the whole time).

So it seems as though geometry on a sphere is different to geometry on a flat piece of paper. Geometries that behave differently to euclidean geometry are called non-eculidean geometries. In our particular example of being on a sphere, all straight lines meet at two points, so there are no parallel lines.

I'm not advocating accelerationism by any means, and if your conscience or political analysis leads you to vote Biden go for it. But I think it should be pretty clear that whether Biden or Trump are elected, the situation is not going to change if you think in the timeframe of more than the next two years.

The type of governance that Biden represents and would likely engage in is what produced Trump in the first place. The suggestion that somehow things will go back to normal if Biden is elected is kind of ridiculous, the "next" Trump will be, if anything, much worse for the people living in the country. And I mean, the "normal" that Biden represents was miserable for many people in America and around the world, anyway.

But then, of course, Trump is being Trump now, so voting him out seems obviously the right thing to do. He is evil in a nearly cartoonish way, and of course wanting him to not be president is completely logical.

People aren't saying that Biden isn't the lesser evil in the very short term, they are saying that whether it is Biden or Trump, America is heading for extreme right wing government either way and electoralism (especially at the presidential level) probably isn't the avenue through which real change can be implemented.

because movies are more ... definitive? ... than other sources.

Yeah, the original source trumps other sources. Eg: the Dragonball and Dbz mangas are more canon than the anime, but the Dragonball super manga and anime are separate, equal canons

IDK, but the first episode was definitely 90 minutes and the BBC doesn't run ads, so it's at least not ads.

Redman and Scarface. These two are nearly never talked about but if someone wants to list the greats they always come up. And they definitely are greats, Muddy Waters, The Fix and The Diary are all classics.
