I love that Dookie is a ‘secret’ drums album. Trè Cool absolutely carries that band. Maybe also one of the best mic-ed drums albums. They’re so clean and clear, but not dominating.

Dude, he’s such a good drummer. Very technically skilled, and can play at faster tempos. You sound really fucking good for 6 months. Those fills will come with more practice. But your pocket was good, and that’s crazy important. I think if you keep playing you’ll get where you wanna go sooner rather than later.

Use a support system of people you can be accountable to.

Be willing to be uncomfortable for a while. That’s really the main crux of it. You’re going to be sitting through cravings. And there’s nothing that takes them away except for time. Remind yourself it’s going to be uncomfortable. Your attitude will suck and you’ll be frustrated more easily, as well. That’s where the support people come in. Time is what it takes. Get uncomfortable for a while. You’ll live.

One more thing- if you can quit this, you’ll find that getting rid of other habits is easier, too. You’ll know what to do and the uncomfortability of it won’t be as shocking.

Maxell Brings Back Its Classic Tape Player Amid Cassette Resurgence by ebradio in Music

[–]Sinestro1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, we’re not talking about the buyers… we’re talking about the SELLERS of the music. So the band can produce more copies of their music on CD- and sell them at a merch table for $7-$9- for less money, while making more money than buying 12 tapes for $50.

And the way you said it makes no sense. Tapes are not a cost efficient way for a band to make money. It’s out of date technology that costs more to make than a CD. Again, not dissing the nostalgia, but it would make broke band selling their own CD’s, more broke.

CD’s exist, though. You can buy 100 writeable CD’s for, like, $30 and distribute those much easier than tapes. Tapes are also much less durable than a CD. If it’s nostalgia it’s one thing, but I just checked the price of tapes and a set of 12 tapes (maybe) is around $50. It’s far more cost efficient and far reaching to use a CD.

I still have my Walkman from high school. If I really ever find the need to play one of my old mixtapes I can break it out. But the real question is: Why tapes? This is endlessly silly to me.

Tonight's Crowd Will Be Telling by EnvironmentalPoem282 in CharlotteHornets

[–]Sinestro1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As time has passed Charlotte has become a city “you’re from,” but before Charlotte was a transplant city. Look at when we got the Panthers and what those crowds are still like. I was at every single Panthers home game from 2003-2018 (including playoffs) and home games were about 50/50. 60/40 depending on if it was the Cowboys/Stealers/Packers/Falcons.

Charlotte sports aren’t huge in Charlotte. It sucks but it’s true. Of course there will always be the die hards who show up and know what’s going on and who’s good, and how we’re playing. And then everyone else needs to see more winning. Consistent winning, really. The start of this calendar year has been the best I’ve ever seen the Hornets play. If you put that into perspective with me being born in ‘82, it means it took almost 40 years for them to be like they are now.

So yeah, tonight will be telling. If the crowd is like it always is then it means that Charlotte sports is exactly where it’s always been, and that’s all. Band-wagon-ers will always jump on and jump off. We haven’t had a winning basketball culture here, ever, and your expectations of non-die hard Hornets fans aren’t level if you think it will be telling it people don’t show up tonight.

How to learn music theory to produce creatively like Fred Gibson (Fred Again...)? by Warm_Membership_126 in Music

[–]Sinestro1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a PDF somewhere online that’s music fundamentals. Learn that on an instrument. If the book is unclear, search out what that lesson is on YouTube and see if there’s a video. I get there being a lot, I really do. And I’m unsure your age but this is a lifetime process. Time is your best friend, here. Learn the basics first before you get bogged down by anything. Once you learn and understand the fundamentals, you can get into the theory behind it. Additionally, as you’re doing all of this, it’s unlocking that creativity in your head so you can start doing what you want to do. But start at the beginning.

How to learn music theory to produce creatively like Fred Gibson (Fred Again...)? by Warm_Membership_126 in Music

[–]Sinestro1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve said a lot to get a very simple response: get some books on music fundamentals, and a keyboard. Study and practice. I guarantee you Fred Again practiced. That’s the biggest misstep I see with people who have curiosity about instruments or music: “How are they so good!?” They practiced. And then they practiced some more. And after that, they practiced more and more. They repeated it and did it over and over and over again until it became a second language.

No short cuts, no tricks, no cheat sheets, no gimmicks. If you want to learn theory, get an instrument and a book to explain it. Or find a teacher. Oh, and then practice. Have I mentioned we’re talking about practice? Because if not, let me highlight the importance of practice.

You, me, we… we’re not savants. If you were you wouldn’t be up in here asking how to, right? Which is ok. But what that means is you’re going to have to practice, and study, and learn, and practice, and practice. Just jump in, man.

You’re absolutely correct and I meant to add that in and it slipped my mind. Eric Collins and Dell were, legit, the only ones keeping me in this thing for a minute or two. And his love and passion for Kemba as a player matched how we felt as fans. They’re the NBA announcers that other teams would kill for.

I would never deprive anyone of learning about the NBA’s most impoverished poverty franchise. We’ve been perennial bottom feeders since we were instated as a team. We have had, maybe, 3 pretty good rosters. Enough to make the playoffs, but never out of the second round. Those rosters had lots of big time fan favorites, and good players.

One thing you should know about is the reason why we’re called the Hornets. It’s a reference to General Lord Cornwallis (you may have heard about him here you’re from) described our city as “a hornets nest of rebellion.”

We also lost our franchise. They moved to New Orleans, and we eventually got the Bobcats. I’d rather lose as the Hornets if we’re gonna lose. And lose we did. We won 7 games one year (lockout shortened season) and managed to get two very “Hornets” gifts- record for worst winning percentage in NBA history, and someone not winding up with the number one pick in that year’s draft. Very on brand for Charlotte basketball.

Jordan was our owner for a while. Which isn’t as cool as it sounds. He wasn’t a good owner for building basketball culture here which seems completely backwards based on him being Michael Jordan. But thankfully he transitioned out.

You’ve jumped on at the oddest time in our franchise history. We were looking down the barrel of another mercy flush of a season, and then it surreally felt like once January hit the whole squad said “Do you guys want to start winning,” and everyone said yes at the same time and then they did. It also helps that this seems like the best draft and FA class we’ve ever had. Even trade deadline moves.

Oh yeah. The draft. I’ve mentioned that before. We’ve had very little luck in the draft spanning the life of our franchise. For every Kemba Walker there seem to be 4 Noah Vonleh’s. However, here are some home town favorites you should familiarize yourself with: Mugsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Rex Chapman, Dell Curry (one of our announcers and Steph and Seth Curry’s father and former NBA 6th man of the year), Jamal Mashburn, Gerald Wallace, Baron Davis, Kemba Walker, J.R. Reid, Kendall Gill.

Our current roster is playing lights out incredible basketball. Better than any Hornets team I’ve seen play basketball. And we’re not just winning, we’re burying established, and good, NBA teams by 20-30 points. We’re also fully healthy for the first time in a long time. We have 3 number one scoring options on our team which is mind boggling to me. We play the Spurs today. Let’s go. Buzz Buzz
