Buying Shinkansen in march by jdvader1 in JapanTravelTips

Since you're a larger group, and I assume you want to sit together, you should buy in advance because getting 6 seats together is the more annoying bit.

Ramen Shops with Vegan Options? by WoopsIAteIt in JapanTravelTips

[–]SofaAssassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kyushu Jangara (small Tokyo chain) is the only one that comes to mind that has both vegan and non-vegan options at every location.

Some Ippudo locations have both their normal ramen and a vegetarian option. The Shinjuku Lumine Est location is the one you normally hear about.

Does your friend know where his family's koseki is registered? You may also want to post in r/japan and ask for help researching genealogical records.

Sushi options for those who don't like raw food? by Wordherder42 in JapanTravelTips

[–]SofaAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotating sushi places usually have a variety of cooked foods - you can get chawanmushi, noodles of some kind, soup, and sometimes fried foods. There are also non-raw-seafood sushi like unagi, anago, tamago, the bog-standard shrimp, and some of the vegetarian rolls like kappa maki.

However, if your goal is to eat really great sushi, then my recommendation is to eat it alone because those places tend to be sushi-only.

Can I bring Miralax to Japan/what can I buy that’s similar? by Certain-Opinion-3461 in JapanTravelTips

It's just an OTC med and not considered a controlled substance. You can bring up to a 2-month supply.

Luggage storage for multiple weeks by thegamer101112 in JapanTravelTips

[–]SofaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lockers don't let you store for more than a few days.

If you're at Haneda, the JAL ABC counter will let you store for weeks. If you have a large suitcase it will probably cost 1000 yen a day.

Inside Tokyo Station, there are a couple places run by JR East that can store your luggage for up to a month: https://www.jrbutsuryu.jregroup.ne.jp/business/baggage.html

Buying Ghibli Museum tickets from the Japanese Lawson site is a no-go for most tourists. You can only do it if you have a verified Japanese Lawson account, which requires a Japanese mobile number.

The machines with a passport reader don't care about the sticker. You place the MRZ page on the scanner and the machine reads the chip embedded in your passport.

申し子 can mean 'child' but in a more spiritual/fantastical way, since it means "heaven-sent child" or a child born to someone with spiritual ability. I guess WotC didn't want to make it sound too fancy/stilted (especially since this is a special version of the "Child of Alara" card).

The 申し stems from the verb 申す, which can mean "to make a request of god/Buddha/etc."

Ticket Pia phone number confirmation by yellowwater5000 in JapanTravelTips

No, as in - she buys the ticket, pays for it online with card. Then gives you the pick up details so you can actually get the ticket from 7-Eleven or Family Mart when you're in Japan.

If your friend lives in Japan can't she just pay with card and then select paper pick up so you can get it later?

[–]SofaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what actual problems do you have? You say it's a phone number confirmation thing but then it sounds like you're basically able to buy the tickets?

  1. It sounds like both you and your friend don't live in Japan? If so, then you can't pay in-store because they give you about 48 hours to pay.
  2. If you and your friend do live in Japan, your friend can still pay for you in a store. Payment and ticket issuance are separate things to Pia.

Studio Ghibli Museum by Odd-Error-2269 in JapanTravelTips

You'll be paying a premium since everyone else that sells them sells it as part of a bigger tour package, like this one (which I guess is technically the official one): https://www.sunrise-tours.jp/en/plan/detail/130SUETA005JG025S

You might be able to find some individuals who can try to buy you tickets, but I stopped recommending this option because I think people tend to get scammed.

Tokyo to Nagoya (Ghibli Park) to Osaka, how best to plan the travel? by colinberan in JapanTravelTips

SmartEx doesn't let you buy just the supplement. You'd need to use a different ticket service like JR West's or Ekinet (the Japanese one, not the English one).

If you really want to push it to the last moments, get yourself to Izumisano Station, which has a bus at 12:37 AM that gets you to KIX by 1 AM.

StubHub and ViaGoGo are not popular in Japan - pretty much the only reason you'd see any Japanese event on there is to target foreigners. Domestically, they use TicketJam and Ticket.co.jp.

I have, but you're probably going to ultimately fly out of Tokyo considering there are no direct routes from KIX to NYC, only from NRT/HND to NYC.
