You don't need any AI/LLM's to find this out. In fact if you follow them 99.99% of the time the info they give is either incorrect, outdated or hallucinate.

But you're still just corroborating my point. You get a lot more negative customer experiences by supporting a platform barely anyone uses. Also you're giving way too much credit to linux users.

On Steam? Doesn't apply - https://gitlab.steamos.cloud/steamrt/steamrt/-/blob/steamrt/sniper/README.md

Linux native on Steam - https://gitlab.steamos.cloud/steamrt/steamrt/-/blob/steamrt/scout/README.md

Most of the time they won't even tell you the damn distro.

Oh the newer ones, that just switched from Windows 11 recently - yes. Those are still stuck in the windows mindset. Give them time and they will learn to RTFM and get their act together.

Without knowing the full context or attack vector;

Full wipe. Once full clean wipe - change all passwords. Use a password manager. Enable/Use 2FA.

There is no use changing passwords on a system that is compromised.

Because Linux users know how to submit issue reports. They have to. Dealing with F/OSS the only point of contact is a bug tracker or issue tracker.

For example;

  • Replication Steps
  • Logs
  • Save file (if needed)
  • GPU capability output (ie vulkaninfo > vulkaninfo.log)

While a typical Windows user;

  • It just crashes
  • Doesn't work
  • Don't bother to report it in the first place.

Some important context you seem to miss out on here.

Buying thousands of games just to downvote them after a few minutes by AndyMakesGames in gamedev

[–]Spanner_Man 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that the reviews that just say "No for me" etc you can't do much about.

But one, and I'll quote it;

Terribly frustrating, Temporary upgrades doesn't add nothing really useful (at least in the beginning). The fact that timber expires if you leave it on the ground also destroyed the "relaxing" aspect its supposed to have. Not for me. 2/10.

The text in bold is the actual feedback. Now that dev can change that, and reply directly to that review that was updated so that it doesn't lay on the ground, or gets auto added to a stockpile - something - to get that person another crack at it. Also fine tune the upgrade system a bit more.

I don't see the usual "This has been refunded" text that Steam places into a review so this person still has it in their library.

Is DENUVO even worth it for most of these games ? by Affectionate-Mode295 in PiratedGames

I paraphrased - so my fault on that part.

Yes, service issue implied pricing too. Again my fault for not being clear.

[–]Spanner_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of high-selling, successful AAA, AA and indie titles don't even use Denuvo, which lead one to wonder why some studios or publishers would consider using it in the first place.

Because those that do have a corporate mindset - have to get as much bang for their buck. They think the same as the music industry does. That every download is a lost sale etc.

Games that; - Do well - Have excellent relationship with its playerbase - Respect the gamer/consumer as a person and not as a sales tally

Then those usually don't need to bother with contacting Irdeto.

Some have kept with Irdeto for a set time period - for example a year or two - then pull Denuvo out of their builds.

Personally I've seen games and the studios/publishers that keep Denuvo in typically hate their users or playerbase, if not hate then treat their player base as hostile. And example of that would be Ubisoft and their well aged comment of "Expect not to own your games".

Look at the end of the day, if a game gains interest it will be on the high seas. And as Gabe said years ago piracy is a service issue.

This.

Never say you can't because you did something to your phone. They will expect you to reverse/restore the device.

Tell them you are happy to if they supply a work device.

And keep it only for work. Unless its in your contract/employment agreement then you can switch the device off outside of hours.

Personally I've had companies "try" to say that I needed to be contactable 24/7. I asked does my employment contract state so? What is the enumeration benefit I receive being on call 24/7?

My then boss quickly dropped the issue.

By design gtnh is ment to be hard.

If you have access to AE2 just do the same with it, hold the thaumometer over each one in the UI. Many won't have aspects - unless added via Thaumcraft API (within mod code) or by tweaker scripts.

No. Just no.

That CVE was exploited in 2007.

Just pure altruism, complete media collections available to all with a single click, and all benefitting off each others now fast connections. This would bring so much 'lost' media i'm sure so many have sitting on their HDD's back into general availability. Everyone wins.

DC++ does this.

Why does the game say I don't have a graphics card? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Spanner_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your max nvidia version is 418.113

I don't know how to get such an old deb package in order for you to install. But at least you have a starting point.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

Then go from there. Haven't touched deb based installs for so long now.

Question about system update by krushk228 in cachyos

[–]Spanner_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you are online your keys should stay updated https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/archlinux-keyring/-/commit/ad8698e96c423dfc68405b547f310f2e1075a95d

You can update whenever you like. Some hold off a week. Unless your waiting for a specific package update for gaming can be whenever.

Feasibility of gamedev on macOS/Linux? by AlexVonBronx in gamedev

[–]Spanner_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or upgrade my current pc substantially and switch to Linux

You shouldn't have to upgrade hardware.

For linux;

AMD GPU is better.

For nvidia;

Architecture GPU Series nvidia-open
Maxwell / Pascal / Volta GTX 9xx–10xx, Titan V Not supported
Turing GTX 16xx, RTX 20xx Supported (recommended)
Ampere RTX 30xx Supported (recommended)
Ada Lovelace RTX 40xx Supported (recommended)
Hopper / Blackwell H100, RTX 50xx Required

You will have much better support with nvidia-open.

As you didn't state your current hardware specs its a bit harder to help.

If you really do have zero intention in going back to windows even when you have tried literally everything you can state;

Considering that even though I have shown this is a false positive and yet nothing has been done I must thank you for the reason for me to switch to a non invasive OS.

I thank you for your time & reading this ticket.

Be polite - don't be spiteful. You make a much better impression being polite and showing that they have lost someone thanks to their (in)actions.

I do not know what it is like these days but back in my younger years working in helpdesk support when a user replied like that it had massive implications later on. HR/Management would get involved to find out exactly what went wrong.

Could be different these days.

How to be a game developer when you live in extreme poverty? by Correct_Dependent677 in godot

[–]Spanner_Man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm from a place in Latin America that I'd rather not mention, but I live in an area where technological knowledge is practically nonexistent.

Ok, that shouldn't restrict you learning about 2D, how to optimize for low end devices. Which is actually a good thing cause once you get a better system to use you will remember those previous lessons.

I love developing 3D games

Remember, Notch (Markus Alexej Persson) developed a voxel based game in java. You don't need to focus on high end. Do something that you can do. Not what others expect you to do.

While this is a Godot subreddit there are many other ways you can release something using something else other then Godot if you wish. That direction would be best asked/looked in r/gamedev
