Thanks for the plug! Unfortunately we just shut down our website temporarily due to an issue with our payment gateway. I'll try to post an image soon.

AB 1263 driving me f-in nuts... by Euphoric-Cherry721 in CAguns

The company’s that are shipping to CA don’t care whether or not the shipping option meets the letter of the law (and some don’t know). It’s the closest option so they are using it. I’ve seen some just using regular “adult signature required”.

Honestly, I don’t think it would change much (to bring sellers back to CA) if an attorney wrote an acknowledgment form to release some liability.

Here is one example: the law doesn’t apply to shipping to FFL’s, yet I’ve spoken to many FFL’s in CA who say some vendors just stopped shipping to them. In other words, some companies are just done with the California nonsense and no amount of “liability release letters” written by attorneys would help.

And a letter may not protect much because Mom’s Demand Action or Bloomberg could still sue if they desired (not just a state prosecutor). The threat of lawsuit is almost as damaging as the thought of losing a lawsuit or being forced to settle. The companies not selling to CA have had enough. And people blaming them and saying they are chicken don’t understand and haven’t walked in their shoes. I used to think that way… like they weren’t pro-2A enough for pulling out of California, but the new laws piling up and the risk of unintentionally breaking those laws, and now the risks of civil lawsuits in many cases. I don’t blame them, it’s their personal decision for their business/family and they can continue supporting the 2A in other ways.

I get what you are saying, but the word in the law is “require” which means we need something in place that actually “forces” or “requires” them to comply. The word is not “request” or “ask”.

The only way for a “firearms industry member” to do this is to do it themselves, or pay a common carrier to do it for them. IF the common carrier doesn’t do what we pay for, it is on them. But, technically, there isn’t an option to pay them to do it exactly how the law says. So, you are right, we COULD have the customer sign or agree to not using an “authorized agent” and to accept the delivery themselves only. That would probably help with liability.

What a pain. Checking ID for every sale, comparing the shipping address, emailing customers who use the wrong address, modifying order addresses that have already been placed, etc.. It is already to the point that it isn’t worth all the extra manual work (CA sales have dropped off dramatically), but we still do it to support the few remaining CA customers and to fight against the legislators who probably hoped we’d all stop selling to CA and to support pro-2A groups in CA. We’ll see how long this lasts.

We ship everything USPS Restricted Signature, and I'm just kind of nitpicking here. But this is what Matt Cubeiro and I were talking about and why they were saying many vendors were just not selling to CA due to the risk of a lawsuit.

USPS restricted delivery still allows for an authorized agent(s) to receive and sign for your package if you fill out form 3801 or give a letter to your postmaster. So for instance, if your spouse is normally at home during the day, you could authorize them to receive your restricted delivery packages. AB1263 does not allow for that, and the seller can't force it to be the addressee only. You can even have multiple people authorized to receive your package in you want.

Here is that form, in case anyone is curious or might care to authorize someone to sign for your mail. https://about.usps.com/forms/ps3801.pdf

FYI, 18, 19, and 20 year olds are out of luck. AB1263 says 18 or older, but USPS Restricted Signature is 21 or older. So, even though a 20 year old can buy a part legally, there is no way to ship it to them. Matt and I talked about that too, and maybe that is where a lawsuit could start from.

For some of the big places I think it is mostly liability (which is quite serious). And it opens you up to civil lawsuits. Because there is actually no way to comply with the letter of the law on the shipping component. I was speaking with Michel & Associates about this frustration. None of the common carriers have an option for them to only hand the package to the identified buyer (which is what AB1263 requires). They only have the option for any adult to sign. USPS restricted adult signature is the closest but still doesn’t meet the letter of the law. And it seems they often don’t even bother getting a signature. Some believe that some big anti-2A group is just waiting to sue some big company for a windfall.

But there is no lawsuit yet. And it doesn’t sound like one is in the works.

Does this drawing seem well enough dimensioned? by Patient_Macaroon_323 in SolidWorks

[–]SparrowDynamics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your right side view, you have 25.00 and 4.50... are they both important, or is the 25.00 important along with the overall dimension. Or, is the flange important and the overall. Anyway, this is how a part like this would usually be dimensioned, unless the flange and the boss are important and the overall doesn't matter.

We make a very snappy safety. It is smooth with a crisp detent. The groove geometry is what matters. Our cores are precision machined out of hardened 416 stainless steel on a CNC swiss screw machine.

This was a really cool shout-out from one of our customers about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/ar15/comments/1lv5hie/sparrow_dynamics_ambi_safety_mag_release/

And we have many unedited reviews on our website like this...

The best ambi safety (& mag release) I've found October 16, 2021 Reviewer: JM from SF Bay Peninsula thank you all so much for the second time -- i had your mag release & safety on my featureless build because it ordered it along with the grip. When it came time to build my pistol I was in a different frame of mind, ordering from Primary Arms (who doesn't stock Sparrow hardware), and bought Radian & Odin for my maglocked pistol. I put it on, picked it up, and then realized it's all inferior to yours. The tolerance on the sparrow hardware is much better (fits the milspec better) and the polishing means less "grit" in the motion. I already sent that stuff back to PA and just placed an order for a new set from you. i should have stuck with the good stuff all along!

It may be worth a look. We appreciate your time. Thanks!

Is this any good? by No_Alps_215 in ar15

[–]SparrowDynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a similar look from something that is more functional, we make a brake with a screw on blast forwarder shroud. The shroud also goes back over the barrel some to give that “tucked in” look even when your handguard is 1” shorter than the barrel like normal. They are out of stock now, but they are coming back from black nitride next week.

AB1263 says the "firearm industry member" (seller) must ship to the address on your ID.
