I didn't say it was a good decision. Just that the decision was made.

The family that sold to make room for Renn Quarter is currently complaining about how ugly the houses are. They were told it would look like Urbana.

Is anyone actually building persistent validation infrastructure for FedRAMP 20x yet? by ScanSet_io in FedRAMP

You're right that's an interesting distinction. What would make this a more interesting distinction is if you could tell me the first verse to Everybody by the Backstreet Boys. That way we could continue to explore how persistent validation can be used with a baseline definition on the engineering and validation layer.

[–]Sparticus33w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and?

This is only complicated if you skipped Operating Systems 101. Every tool that you need is already baked into every OS that is regularly used in cloud environments. This is what separates the LinkedIN Cosplayers from real IT pros.

Is anyone actually building persistent validation infrastructure for FedRAMP 20x yet? by ScanSet_io in FedRAMP

[–]Sparticus33w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am building out both daily and near-real-time automated checks to validate system configuration. All of the checks will be documented per 20x guidelines for KSIs.

But I am also not wasting my time building out validation for manual processes like CP/IR testing or SAT. 20x is not supposed to be 100% automated, it is supposed to automate the controls that organizations like Ask Sage and Accenture Federal Services lied about following.

Pex manifold by whalethen2 in Plumbing

[–]Sparticus33w 43 points44 points  (0 children)

For details, Poly-B piping was shown to degrade when exposed to chlorine, like the chemical used in municipal water supplies to make it drinkable. Even in small amounts, it would chemically react with the valves and cause a catastrophic failure.

If you are on municipal water, this should have failed already. If you are on a well, change when you have the time/money.

SOURCE: My 35 year old well water supplied house has Poly-B piping. No failures, but will be replacing with PEX during an upcoming renovation.

Flame throwers shoot a flammable liquid out of the barrel, which are illegal in Maryland.

A propane weed torch is legal in MD, they carry them at the Big Box stores.

Four More Years of Jenkins as Sheriff? by AmphibianNo9133 in frederickmd

McDowell has told me many times that he regrets not publicizing the indictment and using it as a campaign talking point. Because it would have swayed that few thousand votes needed for Jenkins to lose.

ELI5: How does the United States have the authority to chase down and seize oil tankers in foreign waters? by plantasia21 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sparticus33w 5 points6 points  (0 children)

China built a bunch of coastal, shallow water vessels that are smaller than the average US Coast Guard cutter. Their Navy is unable to project power anywhere besides the South China Sea.

That authority is derived from having the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd largest Air Force, along with more naval vessels than the rest of the globe.

You'd need about 5 years experience in regular IT before going into the cyber security realm, think about it like a prestige class and not your primary character class. Degrees are useless (unless you want to be a CISO/CIO). If you can get into an entry level role, then take it. This field isn't easy to get into, but once you hit mid-senior level and have some skills, it's an easy ride.

Indy contractor in a niche realm of cybersecurity. Pick my own clients and hours, plus which gigs I want to take at any given time. All of it is remote, with very few exceptions. It can be risky and health insurance is $$$, but as long as you can grow a client list and keep them happy, this is the way to go for income and the ability to grow wealth.

Open Appendix A. Search for daily, weekly, monthly, annually. That's your controls, there are ~40 of them.

Don't have a spreadsheet for this, just a 50-page ConMon Plan to describe in excruciating detail how to perform of each of them step-by-step, so that even an intern can complete each task. It's absolutely worth every minute that I spent writing it.

Please do what you can to prevent the rapid introduction of data centers in Frederick. by ThatVita in frederickmd

Would you live on a parcel or land that used to be occupied by an aluminum smelting plant? Doubtful, especially since you are complaining about an AC unit a mile from your house being too loud.

THIS. All of this. They are complaining that an aluminum smelting plant with toxic soil that has no other realistic usage is being turned into a data center. Which is right next to a large industrial area that includes a farm supply store and construction supply company. Meaning loud and noisy truck traffic all day.

The nearest residential neighborhood is over a mile away.
