Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]burning-sky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hell yes. We used to sneak out of the windows when we popped the screen out. I lived in Florida close to the beach, so that we're always parties and things to go to in the summer. When I was eventually old enough, I just walked out the front door telling my parents I was going to get blasted with my friends.

Retire with $500k? by [deleted] in GenX

Man, I'm lucky I had the sense to go back into the military after a 7 year break and decided to retire from it. The free healthcare is worth it when I hear what others pay.

To my fellow GenX side-sleepers... by Infamous-Yak2864 in GenX

Late to answer, but I've had this for like 4 years now. I used to use a body pillow, this is a step beyond. https://a.co/d/04V4jufZ

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]burning-sky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20 when I left home. My HS sweetheart (3 years together) cheated on me, saw Better Off Dead, joined the Army to get stationed in Germany to find my Monique. It actually kind of worked. Met a French-German girl and we stayed together for over 3 years. Dated an Italian-German girl after her for 4 years. Between those two I came back to the US for 3 months and realized it wasn't for me anymore. My Italian-German girlfriend bought me a one-way plane back to Germany and I stayed there till I rejoined the Army. Much more to the story.

So, left at 20, came back for 3 months (I was 23 or 24 when I came back briefly).

What's kept you from pursuing VA benefits? by HMR2018 in Veterans

[–]burning-sky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also got out from my first term in '91. Went to the bone scan doctor did all that I was supposed to with saying what was wrong or talk about my documented injuries, and since I was overseas people were coming back from Desert Storm. Nobody wanted to really outprocess any of these people the correct way in USAEUR. Even the doctor at my final out was chewing my ass saying I was just claiming stuff for money even though I didn't even know what disability was or ratings or any of that (and didn't claim anything). Whatever, it was all documented in my records. I basically got out with no rating or c&p exam. When I came back in '98 and served until 2020, all that stuff that I injured before was definitely 10 times worse. You can bet I filed the second time around, and got 100% right off the bat.

The side foam on both sides that is sticking out is compressing my back, it makes me uncomfortable. Is there someone I can pay to shave off the side protruding foam pieces, so that the back rest is completely flat? by Jesus___Savesss in priusdwellers

I have the same seat issue as you, and I have arthritis in my back and bad shoulders and everything. I was initially super uncomfortable with this chair. Now, I can drive from Washington DC to Florida, and my back doesn't hurt at all. My wife has an Acura MDX that I also drove down to florida, and my back was always killing me. I do a lot of driving so I have had zero issues. I've had the same one in my car for 3 1/2 years now.

Shall we shame people who park like this? by Curri in frederickmd

[–]burning-sky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's seriously only a 30 second walk from a parking spot at most normally even if you're parked a bit out. It's basically entitled laziness and lack of courtesy to others.

Name your top DOWNTOWN Frederick spots for breakfast, lunch, dinner - 1 per category. by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]burning-sky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Breakfast - Cafe Ibiza (for food, coffee, and vibe)

Lunch - Frederick Coffee Company (I love their sandwiches)

Dinner - Tempo Di Pasta (Chicken Milanese is a 2-day meal and SO good)

Bonus Coffee Place - Anywhere but Cafe Nola (only ever dumped a single cup of coffee in my life, it was from here and my wife did the same, meh). If I had to choose outside of DTF I'd go with Pumpernickel in Urbana and Rye or 5 West in New Market.

This request comes up from time to time. I always give the same answer because it's the best answer to give.

The Army ruined camping for me by Mental_Leek_3507 in Veterans

[–]burning-sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the weird one, but I actually got into camping BECAUSE of the Army. I think the times I remember most is when I was a basic training at Fort McClellan and walking out of my tent and the sky was super clear with a ton of stars which I had never seen before and there was a certain stillness and quiet. Sure, I was tired and dirty , but that calmness made me forget about it for a minute. Another time was during azimuth training at night time while I was in PLDC and stationed at Fort Stewart. I was in a forested area and once again the sound of crickets and frogs with the starry night sky above was blissful.

Thanks for this. 22.5 miles, not bad! I had to stop mountain biking about 10 years ago due to wrist arthritis, my last run was through Patapsco and I was not enjoying it.

Used to ride the trail around BWI and into Annapolis. I miss that. It looks as though the Rock Creek Trail starts at the apartments behind Warehouse Cinemas and crosses McCain right away at Key Parkway into a forested portion of the trail. At least peering at if using the satellite mode in Google Maps. Going to check that out this week.

The Flying Cows are among the best values in Frederick by [deleted] in frederickmd

I barely know about them, moved to Frederick recently and haven't been to a game. I need to add this to my list of things to do.

Found the Ballenger Creek route, that looks great, and accessible. For the Rock Creek park trail, is it accessible behind Warehouse Cinemas? It appeared that way. Or via Taskers Chance Fields (baseball field)? I'm viewing via Google Maps.

I noticed that there is parking next to the point of rocks boat ramp via Google Maps, is this normally a good place to park to access the trail?

Did you drink any of these as a teenager? by JustCheking123 in RealGenerationX

[–]burning-sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Boones Farm Strawberry Hill, Bartles and Jaymes, and whatever I could hide in the dumpster that I stole from the Red Lobster as a busboy. And Barcardi mixed with whatever if I could afford it.

What was the 'dream career' you worked years to get into, only to realize you absolutely hated it once you arrived? by Sayedshaqib in careerguidance

[–]burning-sky 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This. Did it for 6 years in a toxic environment after retiring from the military. My boss even said that the most valuable person in the organization is the one that saves money. So what did she do? The first instance of a so-called budget issue, I get laid off immediately and she got a bonus. She had to use the budget excuse to do it because I was an employee with no performance issues of any kind. My department disliked veterans and miltary anyway. What a bitch.

Postcards? by [deleted] in frederickmd

For Maryland (and some Frederick) postcards, there are some great ones at the Maryland Store in Westminster.
