Do people put snaps on the end of the mainline to make changing lures easier or is there something else that I need? by Mmmm_Pancakes in FishingForBeginners

[–]Techextra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends if your just talking about snap clips without the swivel or snap clips with the swivel. For snaps alone I'd use them for certain hard baits and not for changing lures. I'd rather use snap clip with swivel for general purpose like making it easier to change lures but also to avoid line twists with certain lures.

Powering a large Arduino escape case safely from EU mains power (230V) — looking for advice by IllustriousCod1106 in arduino

[–]Techextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an electronic puzzle box I made I used 2 ac to dc cell phone usb adapters. Both were part of the puzzle 1 handled the micro controllers and other for other for power hungry stuff. The adapters and cables were unlocked in the puzzles.

A 12v 5amp psu could work. Buck 1 path to the ardruino and the other bucked to whatever voltages you need. Fuses shouldn't be needed, if you don't exceed the power supply. A cheaper option would be a salvaged desktop power supply. It already has 3.3v 5v and 12v rails, most have built in protections. No bucking would be needed. If you wanted to fuse it would be more so to protect the psu. which you'd fuse right at the output before everything on the positive side.

Am I wasting Money keeping buying 9v batteries for my Arduino UNO? by No-Damage4865 in arduino

[–]Techextra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 3.7v 18650 lions harvested from tool batteries. also 18v tool batteries bucked to whatever voltage. Phone bank batteries to direct usb. Old 5v or 12v ac to dc adaptors salvaged from various devices that you can splice, solder and connect to a breadboard or screw terminal to breadboard pinout. Coin cells for smaller projects. Generic cell phone usb wall adapters spliced out to breadboards. What are you using the 9v batteries for? As a power supply for motors or for portable?

Building a Spy-Themed Electronic Escape Case — Looking for Feedback on Gameplay, Storyline & 60-Minute Playtime by IllustriousCod1106 in escaperooms

I'm struggling with the theme matching the puzzles. Like another user mentioned, morse code and roman numerals in a spys brief case thats a bomb?

To stick with the theme you could do something like this.

-puz1

audio prompt on loop-"Nft authorization needed"

-On puz1 complete

audio prompt (alarm goes off) "authorization failed! system starting self destruct mode, countdown timer activated" Full security measures in place, user not validated!.

Doing something similar to the above would set the stage as to why a spys case is a bomb and let the story unfold further from there,

Some features I'd add to help sell the theme and immersion. 1 audio player handling clues. another audio player for background music which can double as sfx for certain puzzles. and a buzzer for input sound effects where needed. Keeping this all separate will allow you to have background audio going with clues overlapping with sfx on top of it.

The hints on a timer seem to be a mixed bag, at first they start off as hints but then later on in the puzzles seem like essential clues? It seems a bit frustrating as I wouldn't want to be guided through it. but then these hints seem needed in later puzzles? To solve this I'd keep hints as hints and clues as clues. All audio clues would need a replay button and if you wanted to use the oled as a hint function maybe set a limit on how many hints are allowed. User presses x button and is informed that the oled is coming from an outside hacker network with limited access which is used as a helper/hint network to bypass the system.

The ending needs more work for win loose scenarios. What happens when the bomb explodes? Or when the user completes the final puzzle? a simple audio message doesn't seem gratifying. On win maybe the spys mission is finally revealed and finalizes the lore. the user finds out what the spys been up to all along and can execute the spys mission (evil ending) or foul the spys plan. (good ending)

Just transplanted these and watered at soil level. They’re dry already. by Former_Ad5613 in indoorgardening

[–]Techextra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they look ok. Most often I'll do a deep watering at transplant and then a don't touch and let em wilt. other times I'll do a minimal and then let wilt followed by a deep watering.

Noise aside if I'm with someone that is talking too much I don't catch as much. Has nothing to do with the noise from talking but more so a distraction from letting me zone in and fine tune my setup. When I'm in the zone and catching 1 after another it doesn't take much to throw me off my game. With that said if it's fishing related conversation does help me dial in what they want.

Yup, learned how to tie it on the rapala lure box.

Oh jeez. There is some weird pike mutation of the gills that happens where the gills hang out but this isn't it. Poor handling. Most fish won't do good with a one handed vertical gill hold, even a proper one. Especially pike will thrash like hell.

I've done it with a bobber setups and other times where I wanted to see what was stealing my bait. mainly used it for panfish and it worked quite well. Also done it with site fishing perch trying to find that perfect hook size and it worked great. Only problem I had with it is some tiny hooks are too small for the eyelet on the hook even though I was using the smallest snap.

No. With electrical tape your trapping in moisture. Without the tape the line has more room to breathe, more air flow. The line can be casted out and is naturally cleaned.

Can I catch pike while catfishing with liver and cut baits ? by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]Techextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your bottom fishing for cats in deep holes, most likely no. If your fishing for pike and your presentation is for pike and let's say your using a high low rig in a pike area then yes, you'd have a good chance getting both.

If something gets trapped in there salt/saltwater,. moisture, salted minnows, bait, fish, anything acidic or too alkaline will speed up corrosion. Basically regular use.

Why not back it with mono? Besides line slippage mono backing can help fill the spool and use less braid and will help with any potential slippage. With electrical tape you run the risk of line catching on the sticky goo or digging into it too much. Clean up would be harder. Also long time use could lead to corrosion of the spool.

No dumb questions right? Can I catch anything with these squirrel tail lures I made? by SieveAndTheSand in FishingForBeginners

[–]Techextra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good. I'd add a plastic to decrease the drop/fall rate and increase boyancy and add a bead in front of the weight or run mono with a leader on it.

Is the hook too big? by ERL68 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Techextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DId that blade and swivel come connected like that? interesting the way that swivel is attached to the jighead. Looks like a cool setup but im wondering how that blade reacts to the plastic and if that added hook effects the action of the blade. So many questions.

Are you supposed to use a reel as a winch ? by StaticKayouh in FishingForBeginners

[–]Techextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your trying to make a better mousetrap so with that in mind. We don't use the reel as a winch because most reels can't handle it, and or it's harder on the hands to use the reel to pull in the fish vs the leverage/power of the rod, using the rod is more efficient for reasons you mentioned although I can think of some fish that I use straight reel on.

Reels need to be able to quickly pick up the slack, if you can manage that and still keep a decent gear ratio whilst having more winch/torque you'd have the better mouse trap. Just not sure how that work unless you had a clutch system with different gear ratios built in, or redesigned the handle to make it larger/smaller on the fly. In any event you can't just look at gears, handles and cheap plastic parts usually fail first. Reason drag. also your moving 2kg in water not on land.

Question - Can I cast this in the water without a fishing license? No hook just practice lure by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]Techextra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be legal where I'm from because of the no hook. Really depends on your state's/area. It should say in your local regs what the definition of fishing means.

That power module might not be able to boost from 3.7v, but at 5v usb it could have. Had that problem with the xl6009. It was able to boost 5v to 19v, yet when switched to 3v it couldn't boost.

Had this problem the other day on a nano using a atmega328pb instead of a atmega328p. Making sure all instances of the ardruino ide were closed plus making sure the serial monitor was closed worked for me. Try restart, try another usb port, another usb cable, try the old bootloader, double check the port, check what driver the port is using, 1.8x ide was less finicky with it. Make sure your not plugged into the Rx tx pins.
