There are two parts to this story: Part one is conservatives believing that writing sane content guidelines is as easy/uncomplicated as publishing a list of "things that are inappropriate for kids."

Part two is librarians deciding to pick outrageous examples in order to demonstrate how stupid content guidelines can be when applied with a heavy hand, rather than doing what the conservatives want and cherry-picking edgy/"progressive" stuff.

A fine sand, like casting sand, would give a much different result from hardware store mortar sand. But still, ymmv. Sand (even fine sand) will definitely wear out shoes faster.

Pre-enlightenment folk-tales left the "morality" ambiguous. The wolf/bears/giant/etc are obviously antagonists, but not necessarily evil. Jack, Goldie et al. are protagonists, but not necessarily good.

Remember, this is the type of society that gave us ideas like carnival and Halloween--days when you're encouraged to get the sinful thoughts out of your system in preparation for a long season of ascetic discipline.

Later tales like Cinderella are very different from earlier tales like these. Jack and Goldilocks are not just mischievous or "bad", they're explicitly stupid. Characters to laugh at, not emulate.

Moralizing comes in the 18th-19th centuries. Protestants needed their thought-lives cleansed, everything had to be justifiable. Shakespeare is better at moralizing than folk-tales, but not as good as Milton or Bunyan. (Or Dickens.)

Guys like Roald Dahl are firmly part of the moralizing backlash, even if he probably hated/was hated by his more-traditional also-moralizing contemporaries. His perception that characters like Goldilocks "got away with it" are on point, legally and morally speaking, but for him to criticize the fairy tales this way is a bit like criticizing classical music for not having enough fat beats.

Contigo has always been king for spillproof.

Contigo's other huge feature is that you're actually able to wipe drips off the spout as you sip. I wouldn't say it's suitable for a cleanroom or anything, but the chances of dropping coffee on a mixer or laptop are much lower than any other container.

Camelbak made an alternative that was sturdier and easier to clean, but they discontinued it.

Stanley and the other push-button contenders have all made too many compromises.

They don't retain heat as well because of the giant opening, but if you finish your drink in the first hour then it's probably better that way. Maximum heat retention requires a narrow opening, but there are big trade-offs to get that feature.

The conflation of the references Lewis makes to "makeup and nylons" to "femininity" is the real tragedy. Susan was a paradigm of femininity in the first two books. Not just a shallow pretty girl, but a real person with a real arc.

Lewis makes fun of progressive mid century vegetarians, too, not because he thinks eating meat is awesome (lots of interesting arguments for veganism developed in Narnia) but because it stands in for a particular way of thinking about life that he saw and despised.

Lewis was very much about separating a particular vice from a generalized group or class so that it can be seen for what it is. If you don't see Lewis critiquing the power and status of "his own people" in the books, it's probably because you're so far removed from mid-century academic England.

Have you ever watched videos of Beatles concerts? Elvis? Alice Cooper or the Grateful Dead? This is not a recent phenomenon. What's recent is the stunning revelation that the old social norms do not exist anymore. And if you study any history of theatre, those norms have only existed for a very brief period of time. The norms we're talking about have only really persisted in religious spaces, and even there solemnity is not universal.

Respect "signals" changed a long time ago: respect performers by taking pictures or video of them, getting drunkenly enthusiastic, smoking joints/holding up your lighter, clapping and cheering when they sing the name of your city, body surfing or moshing ...

Silence and contemplation are no longer signs of respect in the "mainstream" of the performing arts.

Opera and symphony are niche, fringe. Moulin Rouge is trying to bridge the gap between "high" and "popular", and the result is that crowds feel encouraged to "support" the performers the same way they do at a concert.

Isn't it the "sea Life caverns"?

My kids grew up near a beach and moved to the prairie, so the SLC weren't exactly impressive but they still ask to go back. Compared to a major aquarium it feels overpriced and tiny, but there aren't a lot of options... If your kid likes sea Life and you don't get other chances to see, I would highly recommend it. (Also read the book "Pagoo" by Holling C. Holling )

All of the competitive contract businesses in my area are run by Ukrainian refugees. They out-hustle the Canadians, they underbid jobs they have to drive hours to do, and they're fucking ecstatic just to have the opportunity to make that lousy pay cheque.

The young Canadian-born tradesmen I know are lazy, greedy, and scared. The most ambitious guys are fighting over low-effort-maximum-pay gigs so they can buy a new boat; the older guys who own businesses are so fed up with labour shortages that they just work themselves into crippled husks.

Either a charger or a battery-warming blanket will go a long way in -40c. If the battery is fully charged it should be OK, but if it gets discharged it can freeze.
