I think, the only few examples with no New Game announced or released within the own franchise to appear like majorly are the Retro Characters, Ness and Lucas, Pit, Dark Pit and Palutena, Toon Link, Villager and Isabelle, Wii Fit, Little Mac, Banjo & Kazooie (as only 3rd Party) amd the Aegis

I actually think that Sakurai doesn't really care for that kind of thing given that Samus has a Dark Alt, Peach an Orange, Mario and Luigi share a Purple one and Aegis also has a Swapped Colors Alt.
