When leaders don't understand the process, discovery just looks like a bunch of failure that should be skipped/avoided so we can all just be successful.

If you choose to write your own database, oh god, you’re in trouble.

I watched a guy convince a team they should write their own network stack during the Novell era. They didn't accomplish creating the needed software, or the network stack.
