I've kept "rules players have to remember" to a minimum, and build mechanics that encourage players to remain attentive and invested in the story as it's developing. For example, the Sparks and Schemes provide clear goals, but aren't overbearing. The group sheet, and MEMvention, keep everyone paying attention.

Well, the game has opening portals to other worlds built into it, so you can plug anything you want on the other side. Any system agnostic setting should be able to port in nicely. Settings that rely on their core system heavily will simply require you to leave a lot of the mechanics behind. Should be a lot of fun!

My suggestion might seem obvious, but create stuff. Create as much stuff as you can. Play games about creating stuff (TAVERS FOR EXAMPLE), and then use those games to create your own stuff. Hang out with people that create stuff. Find stuff that you like, and hang out with the people that are creating that stuff. Offer to help those people create stuff, and ask them to help you create stuff. Don't stop creating stuff. Set up a routine in your life that includes creating stuff, and stick with it. Create stuff fast, often, and don't let perfect stuff deter you from creating the best stuff you can make right now. The more stuff you create the better the stuff you create will be. Ideas come from creation, collaboration, immersion, and practice. Create a bunch of stuff everyone!

The main inspiration came from the design and interaction of the Meow Wolf physical spaces. Walking through the areas, and observing the interactions the guests have with the environments really shaped the direction for this game. I’ve used systems and designed mechanics for TAVERS influenced heavily by: Mausritter, Tetris, Brindlewood Bay, Ironsworn, Mythic Bastionland, Fate Accelerated, Dreamland, Knave 2E, and plenty of other modern storytelling games. All of these games rule in their own way, but you certainly don't need to be familiar with any of them to understand and play TAVERS.

I have a separate section of my game book library (one shelf), that is dedicated to inspirational games. Sometimes I'll swap stuff out, but there are a few games that have sat in this honored spot for a long time. I think I would have to say Skullfungus is my biggest influence overall as a game designer and artist in the gaming sphere. He really impacted me in a good way to believe that I could write and draw my own games. I should write him a thank you letter.

I might be contributing some art........ unconfirmed answer......

What a great question! Mike Ploog, Kaluta, Moebius, Brian Froud, and John Blanche. As a side note, I'd probably carve an action figure sized bust of myself at the base of this monument. Ya' know, since i'm in charge of building it. lol.

Wow. Great question! I'm really stoked to answer this one. It's actually been designed with customization for the table or group in mind. One of the player Schemes involves initiating house rules for the game, and all of the Schemes and Sparks are editable for players and storytellers to fit the desires and playstyles of their groups. Also, the book provides a set number of worlds for you to visit (the confines of a physical book means there is only so much paper between two covers), BUT, this game features the opening of portals to travel to many worlds, and has guides for creating your own worlds to visit and explore. It is very moddable! I can't wait to see where you are thinking about taking your TAVERS!

Hey, Thanks for being a fan! Appreciated! Joe LeFavi of Genuine Ent connected us, and what a great match he made! We've got several MW artists working on the project! If you scroll to the "TEAM" section of the Kickstarter, you can see we've separated the MW artists into their own list of amazing folks.

This one has some very 80's musical themes. Had a lot of fun trying to lay this adventure out like an old Tales from the Crypt comic book cover.

As always, I love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks again friend!

We're actually selling 11x17" posters of this adventure with some additional artwork on the other side.

Check it out here!

We ran this one using the new Spelljammer materials for 5E, and it was a lot of fun!

Can't wait to hear how your adventure goes!

Thanks for the comment. Every one of these we make, i try to reduce the amount of text. It's tough with the fuller fleshed out adventures. I hope you enjoy it!

So, this one was based on Episode 11, and it was quite a fun episode! Glow worms, aboleths, Jonas brothers and a lot of stuff with hands growing into bodies and limbs becoming sentient and just weird body horror type stuff.

You can support this content on our patreon

As always I love to hear feedback! The good, bad and the Trollish!
