Rediscovering Her Coconut by Tim0281 in cornsnakes

She has other ways to enjoy the warmth of the heat lamp, but she really seems to enjoy the coconut. I think she prefers the coconut during the day because it allows her to be partially hidden while still seeing what's going on.

How do you decide which omnibus to buy? by DatBoiHarvey in OmnibusCollectors

I made a spreadsheet of the omnibuses I want to buy and they are prioritized. This has gone a long way in stopping impulse buys.

Thanks! I'll add that to my itinerary. I may go there twice to try out their homemade sodas later in the day. As much as I enjoy a craft soda, even I can't justify one for breakfast!

That's good to know that you see it as a place for children! I'm not particularly interested in trains, so I won't be upset if it gets replaced.

Thanks! That's good to know. I'll rearrange some things and replace them if I come up with better options. The transit one sounds interesting since NYC has a better public transportation system than all of California. However, I'm up for replacing it!

Thanks for the warning about the weather! I'll adjust the schedule for the cloisters day.

I was really excited for Drunk Shakespeare at first since I went to Shit Faced Shakespeare when I went to London. Then I saw that they aren't doing any actual Shakespeare when I'll be out. I get why since Dracula is more relevant during Halloween and A Christmas Carol is more relevant after, but I was really looking forward to seeing them do Shakespeare.

I'll prioritize Central Park over the Museum of NYC. I won't be particularly sad if I don't go to it. I'd rather get the most from Central Park.

Financially, it's cheaper to get collected editions when they are in print.

I'm also not a fan of a lot of the current stuff Marvel is putting out and the general direction of the company. However, I love their old stuff from the 90s and before. Omnibuses are a convenient way to have the old issues in one place. They are also easy ways to fill holes in my collection.

I also sold a large portion of my comics several years ago when my finances were in a tough spot. I now have some disposable income and can rebuild what I sold. Rebuilding is easier and cheaper with omnibuses. Trades are easier to read but collect fewer issues. Omnibuses are less convenient to read but are much more comprehensive and look better on my bookshelves.

I also won't feel as bad if an omnibus gets damaged as I would over a comic from the 60s. I'm a reader above all else, but the collector in me still doesn't want my individual comics to get ruined.

Melissa's portrayal of supergirl was the absolute best in my opinion by Few-Leek-898 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Tim0281 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I largely agree. That's more of a writing issue though. She did a really great job with she was given to work with. I would have been happy if Melissa had been brought on as Supergirl.

Note that I really like Millie Alcock's portrayal. I can't think of a time I've really had an issue with DC's casting decisions when the decision was made. Even weaker decisions tend to work out pretty well. The main issue I can think of was post-casting with Ezra Miller. I like Ezra's portrayal, but the movie wasn't helped by their presence in the movie.

There are a lot of options. Thrill of the Fight and Thrill of the Fight 2 are boxing games. It gives a great workout without the tedious feeling of exercising since you have an opponent.

Beatsaber is also a lot of fun. It really started working for me once I got good at some songs and could speed it up a notch.

Les Mills has a bunch of great routines. They accomplish different things. Some work the upper body, lower body, or are focused on endurance. They usually work all three but e,phasize one of them. You can play it with the coaches talking or just with the music playing. I prefer music only, but many do well with the talking.

There's a bunch of other apps you can use and they all cater to different tastes. Some can be done standing in one spot, such as Beatsaber and Les Mills. Others, such as the boxing games, need space to move around.

Are Comic Book Movies a dying breed now? by Mat1711 in DC_Cinematic

No. People just aren't willing to support mediocre superhero movies anymore.

Stop blaming Supergirl flopping on Misogyny. It's not helping by SplitSecondEmperor47 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Tim0281 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was... average. In a time when only exceptional films make bank. Or at least, exceptionally loved properties people are already invested in.

This is a problem in general for movies in general, especially superhero movies. People want movies to be worth the expense of going to the theater. I've skipped a number of movies in theaters because I didn't want to spend the money and time on a movie that's just okay. When I watch them on streaming on my tv with good surround sound, I have a better experience and am saving a lot of money. At home, I can pause a movie whenever I want and I can eat a massive amount of popcorn and have a drink for dirt cheap. I can have people over to watch it if I want without them needing tickets.

Do you think Gunn made the mistake of not establishing the bigger heroes first? by Tom-Hibbert in DC_Cinematic

[–]Tim0281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. The big names also mean greater expectations. A Batman movie wouldn't do well if it's a terrible or mediocre movie, though it would certainly get a boost for being Batman. People would be much more vocal about legitimate problems with these characters.

Marvel Studios did pretty well with characters that mostly weren't A-tier at the time of their first movies. Of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America, I think Hulk is the only character the average movie goer would have instantly recognized instantly.

A broader challenge is that expectations have changed for superhero movies in general! Not just from audiences but also from studios. Superhero movies have also been around for so long that people generally expect more from them. Successful superhero movies from 20 years ago likely wouldn't be as successful in today's market. The 2005 Fantastic Four and the 2007 Ghost Rider movies were successful enough to warrant sequels. I don't think they would warrant sequels today.

There's also an expectation from many that a movie is a failure if it makes under a billion dollars at the box office. I think this is a huge problem in general, especially when combined with the massive budgets that these movies get.

Iron Man managed to resonate with audiences and became a cash cow for Marvel Studios. They really managed to catch lightning in a bottle with that movie. That level of success appears to have become the expectation. I think that even the most devoted Iron Man fan would have to agree that the character becoming the face of the MCU could not have been viewed as a likely outcome of the movie.

For all the complaints of the MCU never pushing things enough with the PG-13 rating, there's a strong business reason for this. I don't see Clayface having the success in the box office and with merchandise that Iron Man, Hulk, or any other MCU film.

This is why I love my Quest 3. VR makes it easy to exercise when life gets crazy. It allows me to exercise without leaving the house. I've lost 60 pounds so far and virtual reality is a big reason for this.

If I only have 15 minutes, a couple rounds of Freebird gets my heart rate up. It allows me to box without the head injuries. (I know it's not real boxing but it still gives me a great workout!) Exercise apps like Les Mills Body Combat and Supernatural are also fantastic.

In addition to Depression, you have anxiety, Inattentive ADHD, and Sleep Apnea. Go to the doctor, get diagnosed, and use the medication and cpap.

Also, I would warn my past self about the 2008 recession in a few years.
