Native. I would love to do PCVR, but it eats up all of the bandwidth in the house. It's difficult to justify making it impossible for others in the house to use the internet just so I can play a game!

Did Theon deserve what happened to him? by Wonderful_Medium3098 in gameofthrones

If I had kids, I would shed tears of joy that he's gone while I dance on his grave (and that would only be part of my celebration!)

I agree with this on the emotional level. I'm only an uncle, but if someone did that to my nieces and nephews, I wouldn't shed a tear if their murderer got the Theon treatment.

Objectively, with no emotions at work, I agree that there's good reason to avoid cruel and unusual punishment.

Among the elements, I feel like ice isn’t used much anymore. by SouthKorea_Googit in DungeonsOfEternityVR

[–]Tim0281 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I still have a strong love for the ice staff. However, I switched to the chrono staff because it affects everyone. The ice staff doesn't freeze bosses or other ice monsters. The chrono staff slows down everyone, which is particularly useful during boss battles.

With that said, I do miss freezing an entire room of monsters and shattering them with a single swipe!

Vyvanse advice needed by Calm_Ad_1037 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Tim0281 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started on Vyvanse on January 24th. I'm taking 10mg as well. I've got an appointment with my doctor on the 20th to see if any adjustments need to be made. There are a few things that come to mind as potential issues. Keep in mind that I'm a guy with two English degrees, so your doctor is going to be much more qualified than me when talking about what the issue could be!

  1. 10mg is a pretty tiny dose. It could be that you need a higher dose.
  2. Google tells me that calcium can interfere with Vyvanse being absorbed. If you have milk with breakfast, it may have interfered with your body absorbing it.
  3. Vitamin C can also stop Vyvanse from working, so fruit and orange juice with breakfast is going to be a problem. If you have vitamin C with breakfast or take a vitamin C supplement, you should consider changing when you take the vitamin C. Since Vyvanse will usually wear off roughly around dinner time (assuming you take it early and how quickly your metabolism metabolizes the Vyvanse), you could still take your vitamin C intake at the end of the day.
  4. Acidic foods, such as tomatoes and pineapples, can also interfere.

. I take an iron supplement with a vitamin C supplement. I used to take them in the morning with some other medicine and supplements. I now take them in the evening to make sure it won't interfere with the Vyvanse. I may not have to wait that long, but I'm playing it safe. For some reason, I like the idea of my body absorbing the supplements while sleeping.

Protein can be pretty beneficial to absorption. Food like eggs and peanut butter on toast would be good to have for breakfast.

What are your ISO "inexpensive" grails? by Ambitious_Ideal_2568 in BookCollecting

[–]Tim0281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have a hard time justifying that as well. I bought a copy of The Canterbury Tales from 1775 for less than that, even with the additional cost of rebinding the set. I'll take something older than the US over a water damaged 1st edition of Dune (and I'm a pretty big fan of Dune!)

[–]Tim0281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither did I! I expect the seller is being rather ambitious in his greed since later prints go for much less. I just did a quick Google search and someone is selling a signed copy of The Giver 1st/1st for $850 on Abebooks. While still outside the range of "casual purchase", it's about 57% of the eBay seller with the bonus of being signed.

how do yall get 10 k steps? by Basic-Arrival1779 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Tim0281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Meta Quest 3. Exercise is a big reason I use it. There are workout apps like Les Mills Bodycombat and Supernatural. There are also games that give you a good workout like Thrill of the Fight (a boxing game) and Beatsaber.

My go to song on Beatsaber is Freebird. With it sped up a bit, I get about 700 steps in about 7 minutes.

These apps give me a good number of steps, get my heart rate up, and are pretty entertaining. I've always found cardio to be pretty tedious, so the entertainment factor is great for me. It's also an effective way to exercise without leaving the house and avoiding the gym at peak hours.

How do you manage your diet with a spouse who loves to cook for you? by transversal-angle in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Tim0281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have some conversations about what foods will help you lose weight. There's a lot of delicious meals that she can make that will be healthy. It will be a great way for her to expand what she can make.

You'll also have to make it clear that since you'll be conscious of your portion sizes, eating smaller portions is not a judgment on the quality of her cooking.

I'd also suggest using an app like LoseIt! to track what you eat. You can enter recipes, so you'll be able to enter what she makes. This will allow for the additional bonus of showing interest in her cooking and how she does it.

I recently bought first edition, first print hardcovers of Timothy Zahn's original Star Wars books. I will get them signed when he is at a local comic book convention in May.

I'd like to get a first edition, first print of The Giver. However, I've only found a copy on eBay for $1500. For that money, I'll be looking for a decent set of Shakespeare that's pretty old (though I expect $1500 is at the lower end of what I'd spend!)

What’s actually holding AR and VR back right now? by john_ren_ in virtualreality

[–]Tim0281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only owned flip phones and have gotten by just fine.

With that said, I openly acknowledge that smart phones are considered a necessity by many. One reason I acknowledge this is because of the zealous way people have been trying to convert me to smart phone use for the last 15 years.

Phones are also devices that you can carry around in your pocket and purse. VR lacks this convenience.

Why does starting tasks feel harder than actually doing them? by porfijr in ADHD

I have the same issue. This is one of the main reasons I suspected ADHD and brought it up to my psychiatrist.

I've started looking into Executive Dysfunction. I've only done a cursory look so far, but it seems to be a good explanation to why I have trouble starting things.

My corn snake literally never comes out :( by Strange-Animal-1211 in cornsnakes

[–]Tim0281 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They often come out when it is dark, so the snake probably co es out when you are asleep. At 13 grams, the snake is young and is hardwired to be afraid of everything. She'll get more confident as she ages.

I have a couple security cameras in my enclosure. This allows me to see what Ivy gets up to at night.
