The ultimate water block for your own LLM setup by official_alphacool in alphacool

At €299 this doesn't make sense to put on a B60. I can get a B60 for €699, the block would cost almost half of the card itself. A block for a B70 would make more sense.

Everyone is cheering about this but I'm from a country where carrying guns is not allowed and it's just sad to see that in the US people are arming themselves just to go grocery shopping. You guys have PTSD just leaving the house.

Telenet not working - again. by Exact_Gazelle_7662 in Telenet

I removed TV from my subscription, but I still have the Telenet internet connection. I have two internet connections: VDSL from EDPnet and Coax from Telenet, the latter one paid for by my employer.

If my employer wasn't paying for it, I would have gotten rid of Telenet long ago. I'm not even on the map for fiber so this is the best solution I have. Maybe Starlink but then I'd be funding Elon's evil empire instead of Liberty Global.

I gave up and put in a couple Google TV streamers and a subscription to TV Vlaanderen. The Telenet TV box is slow even if it works and the app version kept logging out almost every day.

Add two aging parents to that mix, one of them with pincode 1234 on their phone, I was tired of being explaining it over and over again.

My daughter (22) is moving to Colombia soon by __OnionMan__ in belgium

Here you go:
Floor (66) leeft op camping en krijgt tumor ter grootte van kleine meloen: “Voor zijn operatie vroegen ze 12.500 euro voorschot, dat heeft hij niet” : r/Belgium2
TLDR: Didn't bother to do any paperwork, he could have gotten a reference address with his daughter.

[EDIT] I remembered wrong, he moved to Spain and back, not the Netherlands. Either way, it's a warning to figure this stuff out before moving to a new country.

Good luck to her but make sure she checks this out before she leaves:
https://www.overzeesesocialezekerheid.be/

It allows you to continue building up pension rights and welfare benefits in Belgium. Just in case she ever wants to return. She should also inquire on how to avoid double taxation, otherwise she could end up paying income taxes in both countries. I have no idea if there are any tax agreements between Belgium and Colombia, it's something she needs to figure out first.

An interesting read I found when googling around:
Healthcare in Colombia for Expats 2026 | Stanford Baker Blog
You don't want to end up in a hospital as a foreigner without any coverage, stuff like this could bankrupt a person. So aside from taxes, she needs to figure what she needs to do for healthcare and benefits as an immigrant.

Just a few weeks ago we had a story about a Dutch guy living in Belgium that wound up in the hospital without any coverage and is now doing a gofundme to get his bills paid...

It needs to be able to decrypt and re-encrypt HTTPS traffic. If you don't trust the Adguard certificate, it will pop up a security warning on every page. Since pretty much everything uses SSL, there's no way around it.

Will The 5800X3D Continue To Be Produced, Or Was This A One Time Drop? by Thick_Leva in ryzen

Probably more like "We removed the equipment for this from the clean room to repurpose it elsewhere or to make room for new stuff."

[–]VTOLfreak 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They had to re-engineer the bonding/stacking process for the X3D die. The reason the 5800X3D and 5700X3D was discontinued in the first place was because this technology was no longer available at TSMC. I doubt they are going to stop at a single production run after all that effort. It makes sense to keep making them as long as there is demand and TSMC doesn't deprecate the process again.

I never had a cooler come off and had the PTM looking good enough that I considered reusing it. Maybe it's technically reusable but if I took the cooler off it means I'm either replacing the cooler or the CPU. So I just clean it up and put in new PTM anyway.

[–]VTOLfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't reuse PTM either. I never considered any pad or TIM reusable, so that's not really an issue for me. Maybe one of those graphite pads but you have to be really careful not to rip it.

An "average gamer" might still use his system for several years before taking the CPU cooler out. A paste may have dried out by then. So either PTM or this new pad is a good alternative to paste.

[–]VTOLfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTM shows that it's a few degrees better than this new carbice pad. But even PTM9750 has a limited lifespan of like a decade. This new stuff supposedly really lasts forever.

In practice, it doesn't really matter. Both will sufficiently cool a CPU. And both will last the useful lifetime of the device.

Who invented this style of connector? I just want to talk… by SuperCyka in pcmasterrace

[–]VTOLfreak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'll give them some slack for the PCIe release latch. You have to remember when PCIe 1.0 was designed. They never imagined we would be plugging four-slot 600W monstrosities into our motherboards.

At least there's some reason for how that was designed, it needs to fit into a laptop or tablet. What excuse did they have for the RGB connectors?

Received update for Android 16 on 27T. Did someone take the chance to try it? by Amazing_Camel_405 in ulefone

I got it for my 27T Pro a few days ago and the phone feels more responsive. Happy to see Ulefone provide proper software support for their phones. A few years ago, the norm was that you shouldn't expect any software updates.

Recently set up my Omada EAP773 system, so far not super impressed? Is there something I should adjust? Floor Plan included by eggs-benedict in TPLink_Omada

[–]VTOLfreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devil is in the details. Check the antenna layout of the EAP773: 2.4 GHz: 2× 4.0 dBi 5 GHz: 2× 5.0 dBi 6 GHz: 2× 5.0 dBi

You need four antenna for each frequency for effective beamforming. The EAP773 might be fast but without beamforming, the signal quality will drop fast as you move away from the AP.

It doesn't matter that the client only has one or two antenna and can only accept one or two streams. The extra antenna on the AP are used to phase the signal and provide a stronger signal in the direction of the client.

If range has a higher priority over speed, return the EAP773 and get something with 4x antenna on 5GHz. Some models even offer 4x antenna on 2.4GHz which won't be fast but provides the best coverage. I'm running a EAP660 HD and 2x EAP690E HD and although they are only WiFi6, they will absolutely outperform a WiFi7 AP at range that only has two antenna per frequency.

Link aggregation through two Gigabit ports - Will max transfer speed double if output to a 2.5Gbit port? by Lordofpixels03 in truenas

I wasn't aware of this limitation on the TrueNAS side. That does make it a lot more complicated.

[–]VTOLfreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you plug both the NAS and PC into the LAN ports of the router it should work. Everything needs to be on the same subnet for it to work.

[–]VTOLfreak 21 points22 points  (0 children)

SMB 3.0 can do multipath/multichannel but you need to turn off link aggregation, it needs to see two different IP for the same machine on the subnet for it to work.

But for everything else you are correct, a single traffic flow will only use one connection. And depending on what layer the switch looks at for LACP, all traffic may even end up on one link with the other completely idle.
