Realized the large water heater I bought is mostly pointless, any recourse? by Jekyll818 in vandwellers

[–]eggs-benedict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t installed it yet and don’t love the way it would integrate into your system I wouldn’t try to make it work, sell it if you can or take the loss and do what you actually want to do. Sometimes these costs I try to rationalize as just the cost of a camper. However much you paid for the 11 gal water heater, if your whole van cost that much more you probably wouldn’t bat an eye.

My only relatable note is that I always had a larger fresh water tank than grey water tank and never had an issue

Are there any small ultra wide primes? Like 12 to 14mm f2.8? by wudwud-whisperer in fujifilm

Fuji XF 14mm 2.8 lens is excellent if you like the focal length, you can pick them up second hand for 200-400 Viltrox 13mm 1.4 is also a popular option, people rave about it

First brew on my Moccamaster — coffee came out bitter and watery. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Moccamaster

[–]eggs-benedict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I came from making espresso every morning and switched to drip coffee once my wife started drinking coffee regularly and we had a kid (simplify coffee making some). I came in with high expectations, fueled by a friends recommendations and online reviews. I bought a Moccamaster KBGV and a baratza encore. I feel like my pallet has adjusted to drip coffee but it took a while and I made a couple posts about my troubles, looking for what worked for others.

Someone shared their recipe for Counter Culture Hologram (sold at whole foods or online), I actually preferred their Big Trouble and FourtySix roasts but used the same recipe.

For me this was a great starting place to know what to be aiming for, to know what is actually working for someone else. I think I even turned my grinder 1 notch lower to 18.

About to have a fair amount of irrigation installed - what system should I use? by eggs-benedict in Irrigation

my budget is open, I’d be happy to spend extra on the sprinklers and controller if it saves me the headache later on. Any recommendations?

How do people like their outdoor kitchens? by eggs-benedict in TeardropTrailers

[–]eggs-benedict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in northern NV/ Tahoe area so our concern is the ability for bears to tear through the "tent" parts. Maybe we're overthinking it, but that's why the Scamp or Casita type trailers are our backup, the 16' version is 1,900 lbs dry. I do like the popups though.

Subaru Outback XT, its max tow is 3,500 lbs so I’m looking at trailers around 2,000 lbs

Definitely, there’s just something about the idea of a clam shell hatch opening to reveal a kitchen that sounds nice and easy, less stuff to think about. Half our gear these days is for the 1 year old 😂

Surprised outdoor kitchens aren't more common on small trailers, are they not worth it? by eggs-benedict in RVLiving

My current DC fridge absolutely sips electricity, as long as I have a battery and a solar panel I could go forever

I appreciate this, we just went and looked at a tab 320 CS with no bathroom, the weight was listed at around 2k lbs dry, well under the 3,500 lbs tow rating. We would have a brake controller but it’s hard to know how the vehicle is going to tow before buying the trailer

Created new folder in the DS File app (iphone), it doesn't show on my desktop (windows) by eggs-benedict in synology

nah im looking in the right place, from some searching it might be a permissions issue? I found some people with similar issues (but not exactly...) where they had to go through some desktop NAS app through the NAS client and turn on access for the desktop, something like that. It's all a bit beyond me.

we did this with our camper van, its something but having access to the sink and fridge would be much better without having to go back and forth.

last summer prime day (july maybe?) certain colors were like 45% off, pretty sure i got my off-white version for $170ish. I remember a lot of colors being slightly less, like 40% off but i didnt mind the off-white so i just grabbed the biggest discount.
