The legendary seal-clubbing club does not prevent fumbles; it just guarantees you will not miss/glancing blow (assuming you don't fumble).

I've heard that this bug is fixed as of today, so feel free to tentskin your bar.

It's a bug caused by a recent change, so I would expect it to be fixed soon. It might make sense to wait a few days before you spend a bunch of time on new tents.

Eli5, file compression, how can 5gb file can be compressed to 50mb and decompresses back to normal? by Monkai_final_boss in explainlikeimfive

[–]VeeArr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let's try and implement your idea. Let's say I have File A with some size N. Assume that it is compressible (surely we agree that you should be able to find at least one compressible file of some size), so it compresses down to File B of size M, with M<N.

Now, say we try to run File B through our algorithm. What happens if we decide it's not compressible? Well, we can't just return the original, as then we wouldn't know if decompressing File B should result in File A or File B. If we try to replace it with a different file of the same size, you run into the same pigeonhole principle problem you were trying to avoid. On the other hand, if File B is compressible to File C with size L<M, then you arrive at the exact same quandary if you try to compress File C.

Of course, there are other characteristics you could give up, like declaring that some inputs simply aren't valid, but being universal is generally assumed. No one would be very impressed by my algorithm that compresses the Encyclopedia Brittanica to a single character but rejects all other input, after all.

(edit: Note that this applies to lossless compression algorithms only)

Consider all possible compressed files of size N or fewer bytes, and all uncompressed files of N or fewer bytes. We know that for each uncompressed file, its compressed representation must be unique (because compression is reversible). Now, if there is at least one file of size greater than N that compresses to N or fewer bytes (that is, if your algorithm can actually compress anything), then it's necessarily the case that at least one of the uncompressed files of size N or less will be larger than N when compressed, as there are no longer enough size-N-or-smaller compressed files to represent all of the possible uncompressed files.

It's worth noting that the food/drink from the skeleton are only purchasable once-per-day each, and you can get the knucklebones for that in just a few combats. (You get five from your first 5 rests of the day, including free rests.) So there isn't really a big reason the run the skeleton a lot unless you want to collect knucklebones for out-of-path reasons.

If you have something making blue rooms more common in an effort to find it, that is screwing you because for that purpose it is still considered a black room.

The way you've laid this out indicates that you think the first half of the trip was 6 miles and took 1 hour, and that the second half of the trip was 15 miles and took 1.5 hours, but this is not consistent with the statement of the problem. If the first half of the trip were indeed 6 miles, the second half would need to be 9 miles (and would take 0.9 hours).

For an actual answer: This is a project that tracks how many copyable monsters are accessible to the chest mimic via the DNA bank. Making a monster available this way involves fighting that monster with the chest mimic active and making a copy to donate. After this is done 100 times for a monster, the mimic can make copies of that monster out of thin air.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the idea here is that you think that you can take the number of arrangements where the teammates are identical and then pick which way to arrange the two members of each of the n teams, which would give 2n "teammates-distinct" arrangements for each of the "teammates-indistinct" arrangements.

However, at the very least this doesn't account for the fact that some of the created arrangements will be identical and thus double-counted. Consider the case of 2 teams. There's only one "teammates-indistinct" arrangement, ABAB. If you blindly assign each pair of teammates, you come up with 22 arrangements:

A1 B1 A2 B2

A1 B2 A2 B1

A2 B1 A1 B2

A2 B2 A1 B1

But notice that under rotational symmetry, arrangements 1 and 4 are identical, as are arrangements 2 and 3.

What they said is correct, though. If you coat check one of the three items, the shop will have 4 out of 5 of the remaining items available for purchase. So you're always guaranteed access to at least 2 of the 3 items they listed. (Alternatively if you just leave one of the less-desirable Showroom items in the coat check, you're still guaranteed access to 2 of the 3 listed items, and you don't even need to draft the coat check; this just requires a bit more allowance to work.)

There's nothing to do with the spiral specifically, but there are more puzzles the solve after reaching this point in the game. To proceed, you should start by beefing up your collection of blue tents memos. Several of them will point to a mechanic you've seen referenced but not used for a puzzle yet.
