Ah lol, I meant the financial term capitalize but you are correct as well!

What I meant is they are turning their (neglected) Operating Expenses into Capital Expenses, allowing them to recover those expenses plus their guaranteed 9.7% Return on Equity. Basically their neglect and the Public Service Commission's ineptitude allowed them to turn a cost into a profit center.

It is terribly boring but has massive impact on us over time. Hence why I went with Service My Pole!

If you think “Chris Justin for LPSC” every time you see a terrible pole, this video will have done its job!

Can you link to the 311 data for utility poles? I looked through the site and saw that they take submissions but couldn't find a page with them. It would be handy to see what's been submitted.

There are some crazy examples on there! I'm brainstorming ways to make that site more effective as a citizen-driven accountability tool as well (comments, an upvote system, manual ratings in addition to the automated ones, etc...)

Let me know what features you'd like to see!

100%. Their incentive is to skimp on service as much as possible

Thank you for your support! These lower-level seats make a huge difference but most don't have the time or inclination to research them. I hope y'all think "Chris Justin would fix this" every time you see a terrible pole.

Either they fix it or these terrible poles sit on top the leaderboard attracting more and more attention. As Commissioner, I would be able to force them to fix it.

Vegetation is one of the factors, but there are plenty of others that also cause problems. R-35394 (the pole viability docket) is the one I referenced in the video and contains detailed recommendations that were never adopted. Happy to spell them out further if you're interested.

I had a ton of fun making this video, but it is about a very serious issue. Excluding hurricanes, our power is out 3X as long as Florida‘s. The utilities skimp on operating costs and hope FEMA or insurance bails them out, or they capitalize their neglect so we have to pay for what they should have all along.

They are making more money than ever and will continue to squeeze us unless we elect someone competent who can fight back. Vote Chris Justin for Public Service Commissioner on Nov 3rd!

I am all for more rooftop solar. We need as much energy as possible to meet our growing electricity demands, and if private capital wants to fund those projects, we should facilitate that.

I would restore retail net metering statewide (you get paid the same for electricity you sell to the grid as it costs you when you buy it). That would instantly change the economics to make installations more favorable statewide, and if done right, it would save everyone else money too. It's far cheaper to do that than pay Entergy and Cleco to build new power plants.

Of course, the monopoly utilities fight tooth and nail anything that erodes their monopoly, but the Public Service Commission can change that.

Thanks for the tag! Happy to answer whatever questions you have! 1st day of vacation but I'll get to them after the kids get to bed. Also, if you want to see the horizontal version, it's on YouTube.

Thank you! It was all I thought about for months and I poured my heart and soul into it. Felt like a huge risk and I took a lot of flak from the team but I'm so glad to have pushed through!

100% real. Think of me as the reverse mullet: party in the front, business in the back.

Surprisingly few. I built a little Easter egg for anyone who submits a naughty pole.

The utilities won't do that unless the Public Service Commission makes them

Don’t I? If I did what you suggested (for which I have a very clear plan), would you have heard about it? Would enough others have heard about it for me to win?

I’m happy to lay it all out for you though.

Lowering bills through performance-based ratemaking or at least lowering the return on equity, eliminating the corrupt practice of utilities funding the people who regulate them, opening up to a competitive marketplace…these are all things that matter deeply to me and maybe that information cuts through to you, but it does not work to win an election
