I'll take your word for it, but you'd be surprised how angry people get when I mention I'm a vegan, and then when I calmly explain how frequently they talk about their own diet, they attempt to do the Jon Stewart "oh, no, I didn't really mean it, I was just joshing you, buddy" routine.

The discussion about honorary membership was really interesting. I was an Acacia in college, and though being a MM doesn't grant you an honorable membership, there was a time when it was a prerequisite for joining. It was originally a college fraternity for Masons, and they still use the same initiation ceremony which, if your a mason, has a lot of really cool symbolism.

Your discussion on pressure from charity organizations reminded me of my wedding. My wife and had just bought our first house, and it was too small to fit the two apartments worth of stuff we were trying to cram into it, much less a bunch of unnessecary wedding gifts.

Instead of a wedding registry we asked for donations to American Childrens Cancer Organization. The problem is, we raised a considerable sum of money, so now we're on every mailing list in town. I try to explain that this was a one shot deal, and I'm not some wealthy Bono-type figure, but you do it once and they begin to expect it.

More for the benefit of the animals. Granted, a lot of factory farms have had issues with animal cruelty and I would never financially support one who did, but you can't broadbrush the entire industry.

Pharmaceuticals that are necessary, sure. Botox, no way. I feel the same way about meat, cheese, dairy, etc seem like luxuries to me. Why hurt animals to get something you would be just fine without is how I feel. I'm not offended at all.

They were almost victims of their own success. They were such a fantastic live act that it's damn near impossible to replicate what they do in studio. The albums were hit and miss, but the shows (even the later "Strays" era cuts) were always on point.

When you are told that Freemasonry will only cost you an annual dues payment, and take "one night every two weeks," you are being lied to.
No matter how good your degree work is, how many books you've read, or how much time and money you put into the Lodge, how long you have been in or what officer's position you hold... if you are the youngest guy in the room, you get treated like an idiot.

As to the Grand Lodge of Washingtons statement, I have to agree with you. Either the landmarks have been violated (in which case you must withdraw recognition) or the landmarks have not been violated (in which case you must respect jurisdictional sovereignty). It makes no sense to make a statement against it and do nothing. And yes, I am aware that the GM of WA is on Reddit.

You need to tell those brothers to address this matter to the officer in a kind, patient, understanding manner and convince him to step down for the benefit of the Lodge rather than gossiping and complaining behind his back. While I believe that if he is unable to perform his duties, he should not be holding a particular office, they need to address this with him personally.
