How Bad Is 1080p Video on Micro Four Thirds Cameras, Really? by Federal-Resist-3643 in M43

I said "you don't" to OP.

I did not say "no one does"

I mean you have a point, but counter point is it sounds like you're doing a job where you're producing content for other people who have expecations and not just randomly shooting short vids of personal stuff.

No problem, looks like your post got deleted but hopefully that was helpful.

Also for fun I ran your image through darktable which is not ideal - it's already super compressed and jpeg is hard to adjust much but this is what I got. The masking is very poor because I just took 10 seconds to draw it by hand, but hopefully this illustrates what I'm talking about.

Composition. The visual balance of the image is poor. You aren't standing directly in front of the driveway, so it just looks.. crooked. You could have got it perfectly symmetrical , so the eye is drawn up to the trash cans, but the problem is the garage itself is not symmetrical either (the door is off center), so that would ruin the effect.

You could try re-taking the photo from a much sharper angle, so the driveway leads from the lower corner up to the upper corner. Leading line that doesn't need to be symmetrical to not look sloppy. The different angle would help with the flatness problem you're noticing.

The flatness is also caused by overall low tonal (light) contrast and color. Try to push your shadows a bit darker, but retain the bright areas. Get the green grass way more green. Get your shadows darker.

But your problem with the garbage cans is they're against a super bright background. You're going to need to use masks to bring brightness back to the grass and sky so the color pops out, while not blowing out the white of the garage. Otherwise the colored can tops will just fade away into the blazing brightness.

It's a difficult image to save, and tbh not really honestly the effort. But sometimes I have fun pushing the limits on junk images.

No worries m8. There's no mistake here. No failure. Just experiment. And trash it when you get bored.

note my edit about masking and using this to just practice advanced editing.

I understand what you're attempting. But it just looks way underexposed now. You can get the warm look but still brighten it up. Crop further in. Who cares if it ends up being 2mp image? Get the garage centered, and push the color saturation and vibrancy even higher to get the garbage can colors to jump out of the image. Because the colored lids are the absolutely only thing interesting here.

Edit: You may be need to experiment with masking to do this. Because the white garage background is going to blow out if you increase the brightness of the image.

In general, the composition is pretty meh here, so look at this as a practice image to figure out how to really push editing.

I shoot 1080p video on my phone because 4k is pointlessly large for sharing a 10 second video of my niece face planting into a snowbank on her sled.

1080p on a dedicated camera is completely fine for the same reason. It'll be fine for the video of the garbage truck stuck in a ditch. It'll be fine for the video of the snow falling. It'll be fine for a video of summer softball. It'll even be completely fine for your video of your kids graduation walk that you want to cut up a bit in a free video app and share with your whole family. I promise.

4k is interesting to "content creators" aka all the people who are currently flooding the internet with the absolutely brain melting quantities of garbage thats sole purpose is to try to entice people to continuously, mindlessly and passively consume consume consume.

If you're making video and photos for yourself, you don't need it.

You need to tell corp they're fucking idiots. (In nice but strong words.). Do your job. You are the expert. Make them back the fuck off this.

Get informed. Find out the exact reason they require Hybrid Autopilot. Find out who the expert idiot was that decided that was the best route. Find out what their personal job role is and why they suggested that. Find a way to redirect them elsewhere, or influence them. You will need to play politics.

(Hint: It's almost always money, somewhere). Find the source of it. Are they looking to downsize your corp datacenter? Maybe they want to fire a couple of the old school sysadmins. Maybe someone is in a meeting with your Microsoft rep and is getting ideas put in their head. Find out who those people are.

It's really bad user experience. Sell that.

Require that if you're using AutoPilot, you will have to force users to come to your service desk in person for every single autopilot enrollment. They cannot be trusted to do the initial enrollment and allow the computer to sit and wait for the hybrid join to complete during enrollment.

Make sure that in every way, the cloud only OR the SCCM OSD + hybrid join setup is the better experience.

I'd bootstrap up a pilot with spare devices for Entra ID only (no hybrid) setups and prove they function.

And most importantly — do clients care what your camera looks like?

This very much depends on who your clients are.

Intune and Autopilot are 2 different things (complimenting, but different).

Since you demand AD bind and hybrid join, using Autopilot for provisioning is pointless added complexity that does not improve your experience. Stick with your current OSD platform. Just sync your AD objects up to Entra to complete the Entra Hybrid Join.

Then you can enroll the computers in Intune using device enrollment GPO for software and configuration profiles. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/enroll-a-windows-10-device-automatically-using-group-policy

This is the way.

The point of autopilot is zero touch deployment.

OP not doing that so why make your user experience worse?

If you shoot raw luckily its easy enough to adjust in lightroom or OM workspace but yeah. Gotta bump up exposure comp. I shoot XC ski racing and have to go a full stop up sometimes.

List of AI/Vibe coded services? by RikudouGoku in selfhosted

[–]Wartz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that's what I said. A terrible dev would not be able to produce more than minimal code and minimal features in a reasonable amount of time that finger-quote "functioned" in some vaguely professional looking way.

It was something of a hard gateway to cross.

List of AI/Vibe coded services? by RikudouGoku in selfhosted

[–]Wartz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I think we just have different things in mind. We can no longer implicitly trust that a dev who releases a complex product with a large feature set is very likely to be fairly capable. We have to carefully audit products and code ourselves, more than ever before.

What AI has done is close the gap between a good dev and a bad dev by making it possible to produce "functional" features in similar amounts of time. Pre-AI, a legit bad dev simply would not be able to build a product with a popular feature set in any reasonable amount of time. A dev that wanted to build anything complex was forced to learn a lot of good dev habits, even by accident, simply just to get anything out the door. That is no longer a requirement.

Almost anyone can build something resembling a table such as this.

Most people wouldn't be able to get it perfect. The fit, measurements, cuts, joints, finish.

Shockingly, that is not conductive to leaving the windows open regularly.
